This room accommodates either one or two people in a double-size bed. It is supplied with a TV and a desk, but that doesn't mean that you need to stay in your room all the time. There is a deck overlooking the garden and that is a lovely place to have breakfast or to just chill. You have the run of the remaining living areas in the house also.
There are other people who live permanently in the house and also an additional room which is occasionally available through Airbnb. The occupants of this particular room must share the main bathroom with any other short term guests.
We are located 3.8 kms east of the city - a distance that is ridable by bike or is just a short bus ride. We are well located to use as a base for exploring the Adelaide region - the Adelaide Hills, winery regions to the south and north, and of course the beaches. There is much more as well.
Basic breakfast items are provided on your arrival as it is difficult to attend to matters such as food when you are sorting out where you are. Tea and coffee or hot chocolate are on tap in the kitchen.
There are two friendly cats who also live at our house, They keep to themselves, but appreciate an occasional tickle under the chin.
Guests have free range throughout the living and outdoor areas of the house. The kitchen and laundry are available for use.
Interaction with Guests
I work in the city Mon-Thursday and so am up and out early. Fridays, I work from home in my own business matters. I'm generally working in my office in the evenings but am always around for a chat or some advice on what to do next or how.
Public transport is available by bus, with the route about 500 metres away. Information about the bus system can be viewed here. (website hidden). You can purchase a Metro Ticket for the busses at the Airport on arrival.
Other Things to Note
When you request a booking, it is helpful if you can advise how you will be arriving (bus, taxi, etc) and what time you expect to arrive. I can forward details on finding the house and we can discuss access if I am at work when you anticipate turning up.
The rules are basic and common sense:
If you are the last one to leave the house, make sure to lock the door behind you.
Conserve power where possible - don't leave the light and fan on in the bathroom when no longer needed.
If you park in front of the neighbour's house (29A) leave a reasonable distance between the rear of your car and their driveway. They sometimes complain to me about cars in front of their house.
Dorothy is a wonderful host, and accommodation at her house is very comfortable. She gives adequate private space and engages in conversations at the same time to make you feel right at home. The house in itself is well maintained with fully equipped kitchen, laundry, temp control, etc. The rooms are big enough with comfortable and adequate setting. I would love to stay with her again.
We found Dorothy to be a kind, well organised and thoughtful host, who provided us with a clean and spacious room that was private and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay in Evandale, its a peaceful suburb just 10 minutes in to the city's east side on the bus. Dorothy's cats are politely sociable and respect the house guests room while adding a charming spirit to the place. Although Dorothy's home has an authentic old fashioned feel, with lots of artwork and a lovely rose garden, it's actually cleverly very recently built so all modern conveniences work beautifully and it feels fresh. We enjoyed our stay and recommend it to others who like a homestay experience close to the city.
Dorothy was a fantastically kind host who kept a very tidy and welcoming home. The house itself is very conveniently located, with very frequent buses to the CBD only a few minutes' walk away.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and would definitely recommend it.
Dorothy has a beatifull house in a guiet suburb. She has arranged most of the necessities a travaller can expext. I would like visit in her house any time I would return to Adeleide, or recommend anyone who will visit.
Thanks Dorothy! I stayed here for two weeks, it was an amazing experience. Dorothy is a very nice host, she not only provided comfortable accommodation, but also told me a lot of things about Adelaide which was very helpful and useful to me. The day I left Dorothy's place was Sunday, there was no early bus to airport,Dorothy drove me to the airport in the early morning.
The house is located near the east of city and it is in a very good residential area with convenient transportation and beautiful surroundings. The room I stayed is clean and comfortable, with TV set and fridge. There were yogurt, toast, eggs in the fridge,I didn't have to be hungry even I just arrived and had no time to go shopping.
The living room and dining room were spacious and comfortable,I felt free anywhere in the house. And Dorothy collected many beautiful paintings in the house, that is great! I also like the vibrant garden, Dorothy planted lemon tree and apple trees,as well as tomotoes, peppers, and also some lovely flowers.I enjoyed the relax time in the garden.
Dorothy was on a business trip to Melbourne several days, her sister Penelope took care of the house ,she is also very nice, and helped me a lot. Two cat Kitty and Honeybun, they are very friendly and cute,I miss them! Finally,Thanks Dorothy for your homemade lemon curd, yummy! I will return Adelaide next year, hope to see you again soon!

I live in a large comfortable house in an inner city location. I currently have two permanent guests, and Airbnb guests in a third bedroom. A Fourth room is available on an ad hoc basis but I usually keep this free for visitors or an overflow.
I first encountered Airbnb when I stayed in an apartment in Oslo (chasing the Northern Lights in January of 2012 - fantastic). I built my home in the late nineties and have always had lodgers to help me manage the mortgage and maintenance costs so I have been accustomed to sharing my home. When I encountered Airbnb, I thought that this was a way of meeting some great people from all over the world. I like meeting people with varied age groups and experiences and from parts of the world that are foreign to me, although I have a lot of Australian visitors are well.
I work in a regular job Monday to Thursday, and so am out promptly in the morning. People are free to set their own pace and can get up at their leisure and decide how they will spend their day. I am happy to provide sight-seeing and other suggestions if required though.
I am also a Marriage Celebrant, and so sometimes have clients visiting my office at the front part of the house. This is a part time occupation, which is authorised by the Commonwealth government. I have married people from all over the world and in a variety of locations, such as on the beach or in the hills, or of course some lovely gardens.
I am an avid reader and when I have time also pursue writing and publishing interests.
