I found the house to be stylish and charming. Some highlights: a dog door to the yard, a big bathtub, a lovely dining set, and loads of LPs to be played. The bed was comfortable, and the neighborhood is quiet.
I found the South Park neighborhood to be really appealing - I actually looked into houses for sale while I was there. It's a subtle charm - not a fast-paced exciting vibe. And by the way, the dog park is wonderful.
Though I didn't meet Helene, we were in touch at various times and she was very responsive. I would stay here again, and hope to meet her next time.
Our stay at Jupiter Zen was wonderful. The house has tons of character and it was a great place to come home to after an exciting day exploring San Diego. We also loved the neighborhood. If you have kids and like beer, definitely go check out The Station. They have a great selection of draft beer and a playground for the kiddos!
We loved our stay at Juniper Zen Palace!! Helene is very friendly and accomodating. The house is really cute and comfy with lots of personality. It became its own character in our adventure. Listening to records was a highlight of our stay, and really made us feel at home. The neighborhood is fun and friendly with lots of good restaurants and cute shops nearby. Highly recommend!! We can't wait to return!
Helene was very responsive and answered all our questions regarding the Zen Palace. The house was very convenient to Balboa Park and there were a variety of great restaurants within walking distance.
The place is cozy and has every amenity to make one feel at home.
Helene's cottage is quite the gem! Perfect location, great host, yummy treats, and eclectic decor. I will definitely be back!
Myself and a group of friends had the pleasure of renting the entire Juniper Zen Place (The two bedroom house, cottage and trailer) for a wedding weekend. The experience was incredible as was the host Helene. She was incredibly communicative and flexible and went above and beyond to ensure that we had a memorable time. Helene has infused her house with a warmth and joy that is immediately felt on meeting her too. The house looks exactly like the images (maybe even better) and the backyard served as a wonderful place to barbecue, eat and gather. South Park is easily accesible from the airport and other parts of San Diego, and there was plenty to do within walking distance. Helene made some great suggestions of where to eat and grab a drink at night. Although, we hardly left the house all weekend. It was a perfect space to cook, laugh and make memories with a group of people. Thank you Helene!
San Diego from a different perspective....we got the opportunity to stay in Helenes charming house. From the moment we walked in, it was not hard to see that we found ourselves in the home of two creative people that love life. Sweet details, warm atmosphere, nice front and back garden, great kitchen, comfortable beds (be aware not to oversleep) small but artistic shopping area around the corner and last but not least the cutest little dog I have seen in my life ( I am a cat lover). The dog does not come with the house by the way! We just met the little one and asked if it was okay if he could be around for a while. Oooh and although the house was large enough to host our family of 4, our son was totally digging the antique couch in the living room! If you like to stay out of the centre of San Diego but yet comfortably close enough, think it over. Love from The Netherlands....

About the Host, Helene
HI! I am a photographer and my husband is a musician and scientist. Our house is our sanctuary and we love to share it with others for their own little slice of paradise while on vacation or staycation. The Juniper Zen Palace is a 2 bedroom house and serves as our primary residence, although we vacate when the entire home is rented. We have an extra detached guest suite with its own bathroom, fridge, and microwave that is available as well and sleeps 2, or is available with the entire house for an additional charge. Our pride and joy is our Mobile Love Den, a 1958 Dalton canned ham that is fully restored and has gotten rave reviews so be sure to check that out if that sort of thing floats your boat!
We will also rent out our inside guest bedroom by itself sometimes, so email if you are just looking for one room. We have a small dog, June Bug, who is a Boston Terrier. She stays at her friend's house when the entire home is rented. If you intend to rent the suite or spare room, please be warned that she may come in for a morning snuggle and may jump on your luggage when you first arrive.
Our home is a charming early 20th century craftsman that has been nicely restored and is designed in our own eclectic style. If you rent the whole house, you'll have shelves full of LP records, cd's, and great books to keep you company. Also at your disposal are fresh fruit and veggies from the garden, backyard bbq, fire pit, cabana and banquet table with night lights, hammock under the tall bamboo and banana trees, and many more simple but fun delights. We truly do love hosting people and have had great guests from all over the world gracing the pages of our guest book.
