  • Myself and a group of friends had the pleasure of renting the entire Juniper Zen Place (The two bedroom house, cottage and trailer) for a wedding weekend. The experience was incredible as was the host Helene. She was incredibly communicative and flexible and went above and beyond to ensure that we had a memorable time. Helene has infused her house with a warmth and joy that is immediately felt on meeting her too. The house looks exactly like the images (maybe even better) and the backyard served as a wonderful place to barbecue, eat and gather. South Park is easily accesible from the airport and other parts of San Diego, and there was plenty to do within walking distance. Helene made some great suggestions of where to eat and grab a drink at night. Although, we hardly left the house all weekend. It was a perfect space to cook, laugh and make memories with a group of people. Thank you Helene!

  • San Diego from a different perspective....we got the opportunity to stay in Helenes charming house. From the moment we walked in, it was not hard to see that we found ourselves in the home of two creative people that love life. Sweet details, warm atmosphere, nice front and back garden, great kitchen, comfortable beds (be aware not to oversleep) small but artistic shopping area around the corner and last but not least the cutest little dog I have seen in my life ( I am a cat lover). The dog does not come with the house by the way! We just met the little one and asked if it was okay if he could be around for a while. Oooh and although the house was large enough to host our family of 4, our son was totally digging the antique couch in the living room! If you like to stay out of the centre of San Diego but yet comfortably close enough, think it over. Love from The Netherlands....

  • Eclectic quirky cottage in a great walking VERY dog friendly neighborhood. Fresh flowers, linens set out, pastries, a personalized manual, and little labels on the necessities where unexpected wonderful details.
Reminded us of Midtown Atlanta, our old neighborhood.
Thank you for a lovely vacation.

  • This was such a fun house. Helene was friendly and easy going, when we ran out of gas during a BBQ she went out and got us a new tank. Communication with her was great. The backyard was perfect for a summer dinner. Easy street parking.

  • Helene is super easy to work with and responds quickly when we booked the place. The location of the home is great, very close to downtown and Balboa Park. The neighborhood itself is nice and quiet. Helene's home has everything - she left a tray of tea, coffee, and danish as breakfast - as well as wifi access. It was our home away from home. I highly recommend her place!

  • We loved our stay at Helene's Juniper Zen Palace. The house is so charming and decorated in such a unique and eclectic style. Helene was an amazing host and gave us lots of suggestions on where to eat, what to do, etc. She even took us for an impromptu tour of her neighborhood! So sweet. The area has such a laid back, cool vibe to it. We hope to make it back to San Diego and would stay again at Helene's 100%!

  • This is an absolute must-stay kind of place. Helene was a wonderful host; she was a great communicator with both details and getting back to me quickly. Myself and 6 friends stayed there for 3 nights and had a great time. There is a small separate bed+bath in the back that is detached from the house that is a great separate space for a couple to rent. We also rented the Mobile Love Trailer in the frontyard, which was perfect to fit our 7th person. They have a hammock and grill in the backyard (with proper deck!) for your relaxing needs.

The location is perfect as well. It is centrally located in the South Park neighborhood, with everything being easily walkable. The North Park neighborhood is a longer walk or a short cab ride away.

Everyone in my group had a wonderful time and we are actively planning when we can make it back down to San Diego to stay here again.

  • Helene is a fabulous host and would highly recommend her place for a week in San Diego. Her home is a beautiful home that is uniquely designed -- I wish we could have Helene do interior design for our place:-) Helene does a great job of explaining all the little fun local neighborhood places. I would highly recommend her place.

  • Juniper Zen Palace is absolutely the place to be in San Diego. Helene is a wonderful host and her house is beautiful decorated and comfortable.
We spent a week in this lovely neighbourhood for businesse purposes. And whenever I come to San Diego with my family I will definitely check with Helene if her Zen Palace is available.
I completely agree with the other guests. Actually I would love to live in a house like Helene's. So, if you are thinking about going to San Diego - it's Helene's Juniper Zen Palace you should consider for your stay. Thank you Helene for having us!!!

About
HI! I am a photographer and my husband is a musician and scientist. Our house is our sanctuary and we love to share it with others for their own little slice of paradise while on vacation or staycation. The Juniper Zen Palace is a 2 bedroom house and serves as our primary residence, although we vacate when the entire home is rented. We have an extra detached guest suite with its own bathroom, fridge, and microwave that is available as well and sleeps 2, or is available with the entire house for an additional charge. Our pride and joy is our Mobile Love Den, a 1958 Dalton canned ham that is fully restored and has gotten rave reviews so be sure to check that out if that sort of thing floats your boat! We will also rent out our inside guest bedroom by itself sometimes, so email if you are just looking for one room. We have a small dog, June Bug, who is a Boston Terrier. She stays at her friend's house when the entire home is rented. If you intend to rent the suite or spare room, please be warned that she may come in for a morning snuggle and may jump on your luggage when you first arrive. Our home is a charming early 20th century craftsman that has been nicely restored and is designed in our own eclectic style. If you rent the whole house, you'll have shelves full of LP records, cd's, and great books to keep you company. Also at your disposal are fresh fruit and veggies from the garden, backyard bbq, fire pit, cabana and banquet table with night lights, hammock under the tall bamboo and banana trees, and many more simple but fun delights. We truly do love hosting people and have had great guests from all over the world gracing the pages of our guest book.
