Large comfortable house - set in its own land - en suite bedroom with double bed and large lounge with log burner. Additional bedroom with double and single Hearty continental style breakfasts, great walks, nearest town 7 miles, Shrewsbury 25 miles

The Space

Large house, set in its own 12.5 acres with a stunning 240deg panorama view for 55 miles over MidWales - only 5 miles from Newtown mainline train station and set within the hills famous for its Offas Dyke and Kerry Ridgeway walks. The house is set in a location from Iron Age times and has been extensively renovated and expanded to provide a warm, hospitable and luxurious home. We can offer one double bedroom ( en suite) and/or a second, family room for three with double bed and single with its own bathroom. Each room is 40GBP per night. A large well appointed kitchen with dining table for 8 people is the centre of the house - one end a snug room with large TV and woodburner - the other end off the kitchen, a large open room with floor to ceiling windows to the view and a massive yew table and pews to seat 14 for formal dining and luxurious sofas around a large woodburner. This house has been featured on the S4C TV programme Pedwar Wal as one of the landmark Welsh houses .
A welcoming and beautiful house - originally a 17th century traditional Welsh Longhouse, now restored to an exceptional level with an oak frame extension. A great place to stay in the rolling hills of Mid Wales as a quiet retreat or access to some of Wales' best walks, great pubs and Michelin starred restaurants.
Additional guests may be accommodated by prior arrangement at the room rate.
Self-catering is not an option - we do provide Continental style breakfast with muesli/toast, fruit, tea/coffee etc.
We have an extensive range of maps, recommended walks and places to visit for borrowing and can suggest many interesting places and routes.
We really enjoy meeting people - everyone has a story...

  • A wonderful and stunning place, run by lovely hosts!
We were welcomed very friendly and warmly and were absolutely carried away by the breath-taking view over Wales. Tim and his wife made it an unforgettable stay for us - incredibly friendly and very obliging.
Pubs for eating or having a drink are accessible by a 10-15 mins drive, recommendable is "The Three Tuns" in Bishop's Castle with delicious food and home-brewed beer. And hiking lovers will find plenty of opportunities to indulge in their hobby.
    We definitively will come back!

  • It's airbnb hosts like Tim and Rina and their stunning home overlooking the welsh highlands that makes airbnb so great! We felt at home from the minute we arrived and were greeted with glasses of Prosecco in the last rays of the afternoon sun. The beds where super comfy and we enjoyed an amazing night sleep waking too a perfect breakfast and stunning views!
Grazie Mille Tim and Rina - Tim I hope one day you take Rina to Ischia to show her the beautiful island that we share :) I hope one day our paths cross again - but in the meantime I can't recommend your place more highly to everyone.

    Response from Tim:

Ischia bella! You're quite right Marie-Louise - I shall have to take Rina there, especially since we all talked about it so glowingly. Ischia has always figured large in my life - you have beautifully added to the perspective. Have fun you guys - we'll be thinking of you... T&R xx

We wish we could have stayed longer. Madge and Ian

  • What a lovely place The Highlands in the middle of Wales. Tim & Rina made us feel so welcome and the house & views are spectacular. We got to enjoy lovely breakfasts in the sun and the sun sets in perfect view from the house, quite magical. Really this review should not invite to many guests because i do hope The Highlands will be available next time we come. Thank you Tim & Rina for all the good times. What a beautiful home and what beautiful part of the world you live in. We get to take quite a lot of good memories home, a great first experience of airbnb, we look forward to next time.

  • Staying with Tim and Rina was easily the best experience I've had through AirBnB. My mother and I stayed for one night during May. We stayed in the room with two beds. Tim was continuously accommodating and helpful. The house was clean and as described in the listing. My bed was comfortable and I slept well. The breakfast provided was delicious. Tim and Rina are genuinely interesting people and I feel lucky to have met them. The neighborhood is clearly safe. In order to better experience the view from the house and to drive to the house more easily, I recommend arriving during daylight hours.

Thanks Eric! We enjoyed meeting you and Dana also and wished you could have stayed longer. Glad it all worked out with the car - it's Airbnb service. I agree with you - I shall put up some more photos. We do love this place and enjoy sharing it. All the best, Tim

  • Inspiring place, inspiring hosts, with fantastic stories to tell. We felt looked after before we even arrived with jovial texts from Tim easing the stress of the M25! I loved looking out the great glass window at the valley below, sitting round the fire in the evening and enjoying breakfast (with lovely china!) in the morning. It felt more like staying with friends than anything else. We had great chats and found ourselves to have lots in common! Tim and Rina reminded me how important it is to believe in your creative ideas and go for them. We will definitely be back.

  • Very warm welcome from Tim and Rina in their lovely home. Made to feel like part of the family! Great nights sleep and a good breakfast as well. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble, can not recommend highly enough.

  • Our stay with Tim & Rina was so good the first time, we returned just three days later! We made a spontaneous decision to cancel our other stays elsewhere and happily made our way back to their lovely home to enjoy the testy of our UK tour. A splendid way to end the trip! Tim & Rina have become dear friends over the total of 6 nights we spent with them. They are our Welsh family now! It will be difficult to top the type of hospitality you will find here at The Highlands, and experience living in a home away from home. We cannot express properly how wonderful the place is and how much more amazing Tim & Rina are as hosts!
