Whether you're looking for a weekend get-away or for a long term stay, consider the recently renovated Zilker guest house located just a few miles from downtown. Easy public transit to the city. Many nearby shops, supermarkets, and restaurants.
The house has brand new kitchen and wood floors. It also has a great deck with multiple hammocks, which are perfect for relaxing after a long day (or night). We also have an outdoor fire pit for you to use for the colder months.
Although there is only 1 queen bed, the house has a comfortable couch, recliner chair, and an air mattress, so if you use your imagination, it's certainly possible to squeeze 4 people into the place.
Keep in mind that the backyard is shared and the tenants in the main house have two small to medium sized dogs. They are very friendly, but If you're not a dog person, this place may not be the best for you.
Guests have access to the laundry room, which is a separate room connected to the main house on the property.
Interaction with Guests
I'm always available by phone or email if guests have any issues or questions.
This guest house is located in the heart of South Austin with close proximity to Downtown Austin, Barton Springs, Zilker Park, the Green Belt, SoCo, and many famous South Austin restaurants.
Don't have a car? Not a problem. It only takes one minute to walk to the bus stop which takes you directly downtown (no transfer).
Also, there is a 24 hour Walgreens within 200 yards of the house which makes shopping for groceries or whatever you need extremely convenient. There are many restaurants within walking distance up and down South Lamar as well.
Other Things to Note
Also, there are two small/medium sized dogs in the main house. They are very friendly and will not be a problem during your stay.
All I ask is that you please respect my place as if it were yours. I would also appreciate you cleaning up after yourself before you check out.
Please also be respectful of the neighbors. You can be as loud as you want indoors, but please try to keep the noise level down outside, especially at night.
Other than that, have fun and enjoy Austin!
Scott was an extremely accommodating host. He made himself readily available whenever we needed anything, and was very flexible when our plans changed unexpectedly. The guesthouse was clean and cozy.
The location is superb. Great food all nearby. Gourdough's public house...so damn addicting with those donut sandwiches!
The bed was comfy, showers good, everything is updated with a clean and sophisticated look and feel.
I was moving into Austin for a new job, and I was able to park a 17' Uhaul in the drive, very close to the place. Put me at ease that nothing would happen to the Uhaul. Not that it would, it's a pretty amazing neighborhood it seemed like.
If you can afford it, do it, it's nice! My dad, who helped me move into town, even said the couch was super comfy.
Scott provided us all of the information we needed ahead of time to make our arrival go smoothly. The house was perfect for us; it was located very close to our family whom we were visiting -- within walking distance. Also, the house was very close to stores, restaurants, and the downtown area. Since there were only two of us, the size of the house was perfect as well.
The house is located in the backyard of the main house where others live. Very quiet setting.
Zilker Guest House...our new favorite place to stay in Austin! From my initial contact with Scott, he was friendly, easy to work with and prompt in responding to questions I had. The guest house is just as it is pictured and was exactly what we were looking for. Located just off Lamar provided easy access to local eateries and made travel about Austin easy as well. We were there for Thanksgiving and ate outside on the deck. It was a perfect day and the neighborhood was great for a walk after our feast. A memorable Thanksgiving for sure! We hope to stay at Zilker Guest House the next time we're in Austin.
First time using AirBnB and it was really easy, but be aware I have nothing to compare to.
Scott's place was nice, clean, and modern. Hardwood floors were a nice touch. A great space for a number of people - depending on the use of an air mattress or how cozy the two travelers will want to get. It's basically a studio with a pseudo wall put up to delineate the "living room" from the "bedroom". This wall has windows on it, so privacy is non existent.
The air mattress was huge and easy to blow up, the couch was nice and comfortable, and the queen bed was great. He uses feather pillows - which I am not a fan of - so be aware. Just throwing that out there - do with it what you want. The water pressure in the shower was worthy. The TV has no cable, but didn't really impact us.
The people in the main house have dogs that are cute and hop around a lot. The porch is great, although you know you're in someone's backyard so it feels slightly awkward.
First time in Austin, but location seemed pretty legit. Off South Lamar is never a bad thing. Neighborhood was nice and felt safe.
All in, with the air mattress, I would recommend for three dudes, two couples, or two people that don't want to get cozy.
Scott seemed nice, although we never met. He was responsive and gave me his number for text / calls if anything went wrong.
Conclusion: rent this place. Clean, up to date, and safe.
Excellent place. The kitchen is really nice. Perfect for a couple wanting to check out Austin. The location is very hard to beat. Would rent again.

I've been living in Austin since 2009 and I absolutely love living in this city. I travel quite a bit, so I hope you are able to enjoy my house while I'm gone!
