I stayed in the house with my wife, for 7 nights, and we had a very pleasant time.
We had been a number of times in Gonçalves before, but never to the region where the house is located, the Atrás da Pedra ("Behind the Stone") neighbourhood, which is very nice. And the particular spot of the house is simply magnificent: very high, with lush vegetation all around, and an incredible wide view of the Mantiqueira mountain range, that can be continuously appreciated from inside the house, through various windows, and most dramatically, from the open outside porch and the wooden deck that extends from it. Really nice scenery!
The house is simple but has all the basic infrastucture for a pleasant stay. If it had a microwave oven, an electric kettle, and Internet access, it would be even better. As for Internet, at least it has a strong enough 3G signal (apparently for all operators, I'm told) which helps a lot.
The high ceiling of the social area of the house is a particular plus in its construction, as it gives us the sensation of a much larger place than it really is. In particular, the mezzanine, which can accommodate two people for sleeping, is a great beneficiary of the feeling of amplitude.
The contact with Mario, the owner, has been easy and pleasant, during all the time, from booking to key delivery; he was always very friendly and with prompt reaction to all my communications. A really trustable guy!
One concern any tenant should have in mind -- in fact, in tune with Mario's explicit warnings given in the house's 'field guide' he sends us after booking -- is that there are spiders around. We had a few situations in this respect, and even made a couple of suggestions to Mario, which I have no doubt will be implemented.
We stayed in the house in full Brazilian Summer, with scorching sun during the day, but in the evenings the temperature always went down considerably, which I particularly enjoyed.
So, all in all, this is a very pleasant and peaceful place in Gonçalves, that I wholeheartedly recommend, and where I'll certainly return to!
