little as i do not live there, but the spa girls are really helpful
Canggu is NOT Seminyak or Kuta. it is a village that is fast becoming a very popular tourist destination. Echo beach, Canggu beach are good for surfing and along those roads are many fabulous places to eat and hangout! it is still a chilled out place and you do need to ride a motorbike or bicycle (flat road) as we are 1.8km from the beach.
walk, bicycle, scooter, or car and driver

On the plane the immigration card will ask your address (do not use for postal) – 8B x Jalan Batu Bolong, Canggu
When you arrive in Bali - it's hot and humid - make sure you have layers of clothes so you can get off the plane with summer clothes on.
Follow the crowd - if you have your visa already - go to right and straight to immigration. If you don't have visa - then go to visa section and pay cash $25us for a month visa. They will give you change in rupiah if you have another currency.
Then luggage – IF you get a porter to assist you and you will go through X-ray and human and then porter will dump you near moneychangers booths (don't change money there). Give him (maybe 2 men) two $2 coins. That is enough in Bali and they will ask for more money and can be quite assertive - but you say "No more" and keep walking with your trolley!! As you come out into open-air turn to the LEFT.
If all else fails here are some phone numbers to call. Ask anyone to use their phone and give them $1.
0818 05470275 Komang / (phone number hidden) Komang
It is around 15km from airport but it might take 1-2 hours depending on traffic.
MONEY – Exchange rate in your country is usually not good – better to exchange in Bali. Travellers cheques no good in Bali. Bring cash and/or debit card (for cash withdrawal) and/or a credit card (limited places take it). Ask driver that he stop at a honest money exchange on the way to Canggu.
Money exchange can drive you nuts but at the moment the dollar is easy for the rupiah -- just take off 4 0's and its nearly right!
So 5,000 rupiah is 50cents; 100,000rp is $10;
So when someone asks you for a million rupiah - don't freak - It's $100 !
To put money in perspective -- most worker Balinese (like staff at Accommodation or the folks working on the building sites) earn about $5 a day. So when you give a tip to a waitress/staff person of 10,000rp ($1) he/she is happy. $2 (20,000rp) and he/she is very happy!
A car and driver is $45-$60 a day (8 hours) depending on where you go. $2-5 tip per trip is good.
Taxi from villa to Seminyak for food or clothes shopping - not cheap but good quality (cheap and not good quality is Legian and Kuta) is around $7-10 a trip.
Actually if going for a serious shop get a driver/taxi to take you so he can pick you up and drop off etc - even if short distance gets hot and tiring
Internet in Bali - make sure your computer/phone has wireless and then you can go to cafes and restaurants – Internet speed in Bali is slow... otherwise buy a local SIM in Bali and put in phone.
You can walk around Canggu but better do it early morning or evening for cool and traffic.
If you are interested in cooking - walk up to small market (Canggu Pasar)- about 300 m from rooms at about 6-630am or earlier. If really interested in markets - hire Pak Komang to take you to Budung Market in Denpasar - early (4 or 5. - over by 6am -- and yes as a westerner they will charge you more than local but hey it is still Very cheap...likely to be the only westerner there...
Just to warn you - Bali is NOT like any other country. It has huge garbage problems, huge traffic problems and is hot! On the other hand is it is visually magnificent and the people are deeply spiritual (Hindu) and very sweet. Tourism is doing good and damage to Bali...
Please be very careful swimming in the sea. However if you are want to have a swim and lie around -- go to HOTEL TUGU (at the end of our road) where you are welcome to use their pool and change rooms as long as you have a drink (water, coffee or stronger). It’s a magnificent hotel and has a museum. Also there is a public large swimming pool just 200m up the road - Segara Madu

What a wonderful stay. Shirley is a great and communicative host. From even before I arrived she was in contact and gave me very good suggestions about coming to and arriving in Bali, and made my arrival and airport pickup smooth and without any hassle. Arriving at Canggu Stay I found the room very clean and comfortable. Its in a wonderful quiet spot overlooking a field where you will see beautiful sunrises. Shirley made sure I knew my way around, pointed out many local areas for food and fun, and even helped with lining up surf lessons. I can't say enough about my stay at Canggu Stay and Shirley as a host, just a really wonderful all around experience. There were other guests there who she introduced me too and I ended up spending time with. As a solo female traveler I felt very safe and comfortable here. I did not rent a bike or motorbike and found the walking distance to the beach and restaurants very easy. A cab ride into Kuta was about $9 USD. What a wonderful, friendly place to stay. Thank you Shirley for everything!!! If I return to Bali I will definitely stay with you again!
I had a very pleasant and comfortable stay at Canggu Stay. Shirley is a wonderful host. She is very friendly and responsive. She took care of me even before my arrival with information on visa, money exchange, travel tips and etc and I could feel secure about my trip.
In the first morning, she took me to the beach and showed me around the area.
The place is very well organized for your comfort. I was amazed at the little details of the place that Shirley provided for guests's convenience.
Also, wifi is fast, which I was very happy with. ;)
The location is very good: 5 min (by bike) to the Canngu beach. You have various choices of retaurants and bakeries.
I'll definitely come back to Canggu Stay next time I visit Canggu.
Shirley is awesome. She organized the pickup from the airport, met me with a friendly talk, introduced me to other travellers at her place and showed me where is what in Canggu. Thanks Shirley!
I had a wonderful time in Bali. Shirley's place made for a good home base while I travelled around. Shirley is very accesible and an incredible host. Hope to stay with her again soon!
My stay at CangguStay was absolutely wonderful! I can't say enough kind words about my time there. I stayed for one month while doing a yoga teacher training, and my experience surpassed many of the other students choice of accommodations costing 3 times what I paid to stay here. From the very first day, I was greeted warmly by Shirley, who personally helped me make many arrangements including finding a bicycle to rent for the month. Because she is such a caring soul, "mama" Shirley kept dropping off other items she wanted me to have, like a helmet and bike light. The ladies at the day spa in front were always available and so friendly and cheerful, ready to help at a moment's notice, including taking me around town to help search for an item I had lost. The accommodations were sweet and absolutely spotless. Coffee, tea, sugar, and purified water were supplied free of charge which was a great feature. From the very first to the very last day I spent there, I knew I could not have chosen better in all of Canggu! This location also attracted the loveliest of people, and I cherished sitting around the kitchen table having conversations with folks from all around the world. Take it from me, book here and you will be ever so grateful you did! Love you mama Shirley!!
Shirley and the staff at CangguStay are the best! Shirley is so helpful and really quick to reply to any messages. She let me know about the visa fee change even before I came to Bali and offered to arrange transportation from Ubud. She also checked in that in arrived ok. I feel like I am in good hands with this awesome host! The staff is also very helpful. If you need anything they are there every day.
Location is very convenient. It is a few minutes scooter to the beach and many restaurants close by but also close enough to the main road that gets you into other towns. Also a laundry across the street- which is actually a really awesome bonus. The rooms are cleaned every day and the kitchenette has everything you need. Not a party place, but I haven't some really lovely travelers here! Wonderful host and place : ) thanks!
I had a good feeling about staying here as soon as I saw Shirley's smiling face and it did not disappoint! The room is exactly as described - clean, comfortable, cosy and nicely decorated with beautiful traditional Balinese tiles with a lovely view from the balcony where you can sit peacefully and have breakfast and a cuppa. It's so convenient and close to everything - an excellent base from which to explore the area, and is especially close to the fantastic restaurants and cafes of Canggu and a short scooter ride from the Echo Beach and Batu Bolong Beach. Shirley is a generous, helpful and thoughtful host for whom nothing was a problem. She got back to me super fast on all my queries and is also very relaxed which makes for a perfect holiday atmosphere. She really boosted my confidence after a scooter accident and very kindly swapped my rented scooter for hers whilst she wouldn't be using it, and the team at Canggu Spa are also friendly and super-accommodating and the other guest I've met are lovely, too. I can highly recommend this as a great, laid-back place to stay. Thanks for having me!

I love Bali. Love to travel and thoroughly enjoy the abundance of Bali - the delightful people, food, plants, sunshine...Come and enjoy this wonderful island and stay.
"my story - I'm 60....I've been travelling overseas since I was 19... actually we travelled as a family since I was 6 years old. Kruger National Park each year, Mozambique each year around July, and then the sea - like Plettenberg Bay in summer time. Us "kids" all have it in our blood... I love the intertwinings, stories, colours and happy heart I get when travelling. Travelled to more than 30 plus countries and lived in 6 countries. And recently calculated 12 homes in last 12 years :) So at heart - a nomad.
Share my time between Victoria Australia and Bali :)
Travelled to Bali in 1975, and 1979 and now happily call it home. I really like and appreciate AirBNB - as a host and traveller (thanks guys!) - so easy and pleasant :)"
