The Space

One fully furnished private room available (for couples or single women only) in a 2 bedroom apartment.

(Note: Sometimes the room is occupied by a non-airbnb guest. Please contact me before booking the room to tell me a little about yourself & your dates)

The Room:
-Fully furnished with full size bed
-Two large windows to the street - the room gets a ton of sun during the day, but dark burgundy curtains shut out the light when you want to sleep in
-Personal closet, plus a small dresser
-A/C window unit for summer guests

The Apartment:
-2 bedroom 1 bath in Pre-war apt building
-3rd floor walk-up (no elevator)
-Spacious living room w/ 2 comfy couches, dining table, & 2 lg windows
-Small Eat-in Kitchen - always equipped with coffee & tea that you are welcome to share
-No TV, but there is free (& very fast) Wifi
-Great ventilation & heat in the apartment--stays warm & cozy during the winter, breezy in the summer
-Clean sheets, towels, and basic toilet trees provided for you in your room.
-Card-operated laundry downstairs & several laundromats close-by with free pick-up & drop-off service.

Your flat-mate:
You will be sharing the apartment with me, a 29-year old painter and art teacher. I have a separate studio nearby where I am most often when not teaching or at other freelance jobs, so you end up having a lot of privacy in the apartment.

The apartment is in the heart of Long Island City…
-1 block from PS1 MOMA
-2 blocks from Vernon Blvd (the “main drag” of LIC)
-Around the corner from 5Pointz (street art mecca), & Sculpture Center
-5 min walk from Gantry State Park (the new beautiful waterfront park), Natural Foods Store, Key Food, Sweetleaf Coffee, and Duane Reade.
-15 min walk from Socrates Sculpture Park & the Noguchi Museum
-5 minute bus/subway or 20 min walk to Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Transportation (& subway times):
-1 stop (5 mins) from Grand Central Station in Manhattan
-10 mins to Times Square
-20 mins to Penn Station.
-45 mins to JFK (direct trip on the E)
-15 min cab-ride to LGA (~$15-$20)

I'm the first stop into Queens on the 7, E, M, and G trains. The apartment is within a 2-5 minute walk of all 4.

Parking is limited, but tends to be relatively easy around the neighborhood.

PLEASE NOTE: For May & June requests, certain dates are for the full apartment (the price is adjusted accordingly). Ask me for more details.

Interaction with Guests

I am happy to answer any questions and point guests in the right direction depending on what they want to do during their stay. However, I often return from my painting studio late at night so have fairly infrequent interaction with my guests. I am almost always just a few blocks and/or a phone call away!

The Neighborhood

LIC is still a hidden gem in NYC. It is very quiet, safe, and low-key, yet just 5 minutes away from Manhattan. And we get beautiful skyline views from most of the neighborhood!

Getting around

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • First of all, Laini is great -- incredibly reliable and quick in her responses. I needed a place to stay fairly last minute, and she made the process so easy. The apartment is perfect -- plenty of room and in a great location. Easy to get into Manhattan with plenty of subway options (actually, probably more options and easier options than most places in the city). It's also really easy to take a cab to from Brooklyn, if necessary.

  • Our stay at Elaine's apartment was excellent. Getting there was very easy, with a metro stop just 3 blocks away. The building is very old, but the apartment is very comfortable and cozy, with lot of paintings, according to the pictures showed in the ad. Elaine gave us a lot of recommendations of where to go in Long Island and what to visit, and answered all our questions about NY. At the moment she realized we were from south america, she switched to a perfect spanish, just to make us feel more comfortable. Also, as we were visiting other cities, she was very helpful in our travel planning, before and after our stay.
Conclusion: great apartment and the best host! I really felt like home. I'd definitely stay there again.

  • Laini´s apartment is very cozy in a nice location! It´s close to different subways and with easy access to Manhatten & Brooklyn.
Laini was always very helpful and caring and had great recommendations for delicious restaurants or nice places to go… It was very easy to communicate with Laini before the trip to get all important information about check – in or how to get to the apartment from the airport.
We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend Laini to anybody!

  • The apartment was lovely and comfortable, very close to public transportation and right where I needed to be. Laini was also lovely, though she was out of town for most of my stay. I definitely wanted to stay longer!

  • My girlfriend and I lived in Elaine's apartment for two weeks. It is really conveniently located; 5 min from subway with several subway lines one stop from Manhattan. Also, 5 min from good bars, restaurants and a fantastic super market. Definitely a good area to live in. The apartment is cozy and clean. All in all, a good experience and we surely recommend it.
