This is a budget accommodation option, better than a private room in a backpackers, and cheaper than a private room in a hotel. It is one of the best value studios for low cost that you will find in Sydney.
It is conveniently close to local hotspots in the heart of Sydney's gay community, surrounded by awesome cafe's, bars and nightclubs, and a short walk to the CBD.
The studio itself is small, but the nicely decorated furnishings make a practical use out of the compact space. This is suitable for a couple or singles, and is located in an older art deco style building with slightly deteriorated hallway and entrance to the building.
BEDROOM: Includes a small dining table with 2 chairs, side table, clean linen, heater and a comfortable bed which can be folded into a couch if required.
KITCHENETTE: Includes kettle, stove, fridge, some condiments, tea, and cutlery, plates, glasses, etc
BATHROOM: Includes toilet, shower, towels, body wash and toilet paper. This is a fully tiled wet room with space saving design to have shower behind the door. The shower does not have as strong/fast of a flow as usual, but it does have a full stream from the shower head which is adequate.
INTERNET: There is prepaid WIFI internet which works with every device. Sometimes there is credit left over from previous guests, otherwise it's easy to recharge online from $10.
OTHER FACILITIES: The studio has buzzer intercom access and the building has communal laundry facilities available downstairs at $3 per load.
COMPARISON: I have 3 studios, 1 block from each other, centrally located in Surry Hills. Main differences between them are:
***** 7th Floor Luxury Studio & Balcony *****
- Furnished balcony for 2
- Unimited ADSL2+ internet
- Air conditioner
- Modern bathroom
*** Modern 7th Floor Studio ***
- Unlimited ADSL2+ internet
- Air conditioner
- Modern bathroom
* Budget Studio Near Local Hotspots *
- Prepay your internet usage if required
- Heater and Fan
- Basic bathroom
Complete access to the private studio any time with your own set of keys.
CHECK IN: Usually from 11am onwards.
CHECK OUT: Usually by 10am.
I like to be very flexible with check in and check out which can be as early or as late as you like when availability of other reservations allow it.
Communal laundry facilities available in the building at $3 per wash and $3 per dry.
Interaction with Guests
I am in Sydney 9-10 months of the year and almost always meet guests for check in to explain transport options, potential tourist activities, and local hangouts. If I am out of town, a colleague will usually meet for check in.
After check in, I tend not to see most guests again, but I am on call any time for help, problem solving or local suggestions.
Located on the popular Crown Street, surrounded by loads of cafe's, bars and stores in the inner city village-like suburb of Surry Hills. This is very centrally located to most tourist activities and local hotspots, only a short walk to downtown.
3-5 minutes walk to Hyde Park.
5-10 minutes walk to Chinatown, Darling Harbour.
20-25 minutes walk to Circular Quay, Opera House, etc.
Located 1 block off the famous gay strip known as Oxford Street. It's fairly quiet inside the studio considering how close it is to nightlife options.
Very centrally located within walking distance to most tourist attractions. Lots of public transport options nearby including buses, trains, taxi, and trams.
From the airport there are 2 main transport options:
1) 15-20 minute train ($16) on the same line as the airport to "Museum" station, followed by a 5 minute walk up Oxford Street.
2) 20-25 minute taxi ($30-$60) directly to Crown Street depending on traffic.
Other Things to Note
Sydney is a very safe city and there are no security or safety concerns. This building does have security doors downstairs and is in a great location to enjoy some nightlife, which is safe even for a woman by herself at night.
Please no indoor smoking.
Scott's place was exactly what we were after for our stay. It was clean, convenient and had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend! Thanks Scott!
The studio is in a great location, very close to the city and full of restaurants and bars. The communication with Scott was very fluid and he always answered quickly.
Perfect studio for 2 ppl with reduced budget.
Scott was away but his associate KJ was there when we arrived and we were able to have a late check out upon departure. The flat was all we needed for a couple nights and was in a good, central location, within walking distance of all the main attractions in Sydney city center. Scott was prompt to respond to all inquiries and was very helpful! A nice first BnB experience!
Scott nous attendait comme prévu; très chaleureux et avide de nous donner le maximum d'informations. L'appartement est conforme à la description, propre, petit, mais suffisant. Emplacement très "vivant"/bruit en conséquence. Scott welcomed us in a friendly way and gave us the maximum of (email hidden)e studio is clean and corresponds to description. The location is very good to get every where, However the district is quite "lively" at night/noise.
Scott McCabe is one of the nicest men I've ever met. He bent over backwards to accommodate us. Our plane landed at 6.10 am and he met us at the Studio at 7 am so we didn't have to carry our luggage around until the normal 11 am check in time and also let us stay until we had to leave for the airport in the late afternoon/evening. He also supplied an air conditioner for us as it was very warm in the studio. ( which he also didn't have to do ) There was plenty of pamphlets and information on all the sights of Sydney in the Studio. The Studio itself was a bit smaller than I expected, but was still comfortable for 2 people. We had a problem with quite a few small cockroaches (but were told that was normal for the area).
Perfect space for a quick trip, great central area for food, fun and culture. Scott was extremely fast responding and helpful throughout. Would recommend the space to a friend.
Scott is a very good host and tried his best to meet our needs. However, his unit is just not very nice. No TV, radio, or fan. The only sink is in the kitchen so you have to brush your teeth and wash your food in the same place.
Internet is available but only if you pre purchase it. The door key is very sticky and requires a certain touch...we were concerned that it would stop working. Finally we left before our booked stay and scott did refund the days we did not use. We left due to the cockroach problem that we found in our shoes and in our suitcase.....it was kind of the last straw. Location was very good.
This is a budget studio and the cheapest private accommodation you will find in the area. It is set up in a comfortable, tidy and basic manner without tv and without radio, but there was a fan inside the studio. All of this is advertised and trasparent, but Kerry did not read this description and expected a lot more than is offered in this budget studio. I do have 3 more luxurious and modern studio's that would have better met his needs.
The door lock was a little sticky but has since been repaired.
The studio was also treated for pests shortly after Kerry's visit.
