Sun rises across the valley early but bamboo blinds keep most of the light out and the house is in the shade from 10am on. An early surf or swim is a great way to start the day, and mid morning breakfast and a nap in the hammock with your favorite person or the cat Tigra.

Couldn't have had a better time staying at Casa Fresca. Perfect location within the Iguna compound (security gate, access to Playa Colorado, Hacienda Iguana and the NSR Surf Shop). The house was amazing- every bit as beautiful as the photos even in the dry season (less jungley). Tucked up at the end of the dirt road on the hill, it's quiet and secluded. We picked up grocerys at the MaxiPali in Rivas, and cooked most meals at the house. Rented motorbikes from NSR and followed a little trail map they had to some pretty delicious Nicaraguan restaurants and towns (Yolanda's Cafe, Magnific Rock, El Gigante). This was one of my favorite holidays yet! Thank you Jeff and Jose for hosting!
We had a great few days at Jeff's, we drove down from Granada and it too around 3hrs in total which wasn't to bad, following signs to Hacienda Iguana from Tola onwards. The place itself is stunning (living up to the photos), with great views out to the coast and across the valley. It was beautiful at sunrise and sunset looking out and hearing the howler monkeys in the trees below. The place was well maintained by Jose, who was there on arrival to greet us - we arranged with him what time he would come each day to clean the pool etc. The kitchen was well equipped with gas hobs, fridge, small oven and all necessary utensils, there was also a good supply of drinking water which was useful if you don't trust the tap water.
We walked down to Playa Iguana one morning which took around 30 minutes, the beach was lovely but make sure to bring your own food and drink as there's no cafe on the beach itself. We also drove across to Playa Gigante one day which is also nice has has a few cafes and bars along the beach.
We had a great time, and for two city dwellers it was great to be so detached from the hustle and bustle, it really does feel quite remote. Thoroughly recommended.
Absolutely spectacular! Secluded, views that fill the soul, sounds that make you go and run to see what is there. This type of place may not be for all but sure was great for us!
The house was like camping in luxury. The view of the valley reminded me of our African Safari's, I kept expecting a Journey of Giraffe to go by. It was the dry season and the windy season. There were a few times I thought the roof would fly off but the house is of sound construction.
Lots of hike paths through the valley down to the beaches, we found most of them by just meandering around which often led us to the Howler Monkeys.
The design of this house is very unique, fits right in with the environment.
Oh, and if you like to sleep in you won't here, the sun rise each morning cannot be missed...it draws you in.
Nicaragua is a beautiful land filled with even more beautiful people and I can't wait to return. We travelled to Granada, Rivas, Ometempe, down the west side of Lake Nicaragua. There is never enough time to see everything so I will have to return.
Jose is fantastic, really sweat guy, very friendly and helpful.
Once again, I come home with my mind, heart and sole filled with a great travel experience.
Jeff spot is incredible. Plain and simple. You will not be disappointed. We really fell in love with the house and open design. You wake to the sound of howler monkeys hooting in the trees and the sun rising from behind the hill. Jose was very helpful and tended the property daily. The golf course neighborhood is super welcoming. Be sure and check out the beach club, over looking Colorados. The waves in the surrounding area are killer! We had a pretty flat forecast, however there was always a wave to be surfed at Pangas. Lucky enough to get in the water everyday. Cannot wait to get back there!
We never actually met Jeff, only Jose who looked after the pool and the house. Jose was super nice, but unfortunately we couldn't talk to him much since we don't speak Spanish.
The house is a really cool place if you are looking for something different and unique. The place is rustic with an amazing view.
We were a bit unlucky when we were there because it was super windy, almost a storm. So we had to make sure all clothes, towels, sun glasses, pillows etc. was fastly secured, or it would blow away.
You definitely need a car here if you want to get around. There was no internet, which should have been available according to the description. No mosquitos when we were there (yay!), but the mosquito net can still be good to use at night. Bring a bottle opener!
Casa Fresca is a special place. We stayed 5 nights over New Year and really fell in love with the place and valley. As with anywhere in Nicaragua that's off the tourist path a bit be prepared with food etc. and have a 4x4. I imagine an open air house in the treetops is not everyone's idea of heaven but it's pretty close for us. Jose looked after us and was available the one time we needed a hand. Nowhere I'd rather be than sipping a cocktail by the pool at sunset watching Howler Monkeys overhead. The fact that one of the best surf breaks in the area is a short drive away only adds to it all.
Amazing and unique place to stay! We were lucky enough to see a group of howler monkeys right next to the house on our last day. We brought all our food as we didn't have a car, this is fine if your happy to camp out and enjoy the house like us. We found that the beach is more like a 30-minute walk. The pool is amazing!
I am a pro sailor and athlete. Travel the world extensively and found Nicaragua to be just the right amount of everything to fit my lifestyle. I like my peace and quiet away from the city, and the craziness of city life. Solitude is a must in our crazy lives
