It is a very nice flat in the heart of port douglas. The swimming pool is small but very nice. I would come back.
This was the perfect home and perfect location. The home was exactly as it showed in photos if not better. Location was amazing as well as Lauren. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in Port Douglas.
Our stay in Lauren´s 2 bedroom apartment was fantastic.. lot´s of space, privacy for 2 couples, and a large balcony to sit out at night. The only drawback for me was being up on the 2nd floor, and no elevators, it as exhausting to climb the stairs in the heat. Luckily the lady from the Reception of the rental pool explained to us the cargo lift to bring our luggage up the stairs. The pool wasn´t too exciting either, but then you have the big one out there at the reef. Everything else was exactly as descrivbed, I am sure there was no mention about the WIFI , but we take it for granted these days, and there was a public Hotspot available for a charge, so that helped. Highly recommended when looking for a central self containing spot close to all bars and restaurants with a lot of privacy.
Although this space is a bit dated, it's a good size with a fantastic bonus patio and comfortable living space. It is furnished well with the exception of an old mattress. You should know about a few issues we had while visiting if you are considering staying here:
Having a washer / dryer was a key feature of for us during this part of our trip and factored strongly into how we packed for our vacation: we expected to do some laundry part way through before moving on to the next leg of our journey. Unfortunately, the fuse for the washing / drying machine and dishwasher was faulty in the breaker box. Of course, we loaded clothes and poured on detergent before discovering this, which ended up being pretty inconvenient; and overall this event had a significant impact on our wardrobe for the rest of our trip. Also, the fridge didn't close properly so most of our store-bought food spoiled - which is how we discovered this problem. This was inconvenient because we planned on making some dinners ourselves given we were visiting over Christmas and the town was basically closed down during this time. This was a waste a hundred dollars in groceries (steak, shrimp, dairy, etc.), and increased our vacation budget by a hundred plus MORE dollars because we ended up eating out more than expected for this leg of the trip (expensive but delicious Thai food for Christmas dinner...). Given our stay was over a holiday, and it didn't seem like Lauren lived close enough to resolve these issues during our stay, we accepted the situation. Lauren did acknowledge these issues over Email and stated these would be addressed immediately before another guest arrived.
Make sure to get the code to retrieve the keys far in advance since Lauren isn't on-site to let you in herself.
The apartment does not offer wi-fi. So, if you are planning to utilize a Skype account for phone calls or connecting with family back home while staying, you will need to find another option. We heard SIM cards are a good solution for foreign Android phones but didn't follow up. The unit does not have a telephone, either. So, this also factors into connecting with your people as well as tour organizers, restaurant reservations or anyone else you might need to contact easily. Although the unit appeared to be very clean, (there weren't even crumbs in the toaster), we observed about half a dozen large cockroaches creeping around the unit during our stay. By large, I mean around 2-3 inches in length. Port Douglas is humid and hot, so be aware that vermin survive well in this type of climate.
We had a few hitches that were really inconvenient due to the Holiday timing of our trip and not having an on-site manager of the unit, but overall Lauren was nice and we enjoyed our stay.
The title of this listing is really accurate. It is at the heart of Port Douglas and conveniently located. There is a large Coles Supermarket with everything you need. Adjacent to Coles, there are other shops that sell high quality products. On Sundays, the farmer's market is just opposite the property and it was a lot of fun to visit.
The accommodation was very comfortable. It has all the modern amenities for daily living. It is definitely a home away from home.
The host, Lauren, was very helpful. She kept us informed of all the details and recommended great vacation ideas. When we had a question, she was very responsive. I would recommend this place to my friends if they visit the area.
