Location, Location, Location: The Heart of Silicon Valley! Private backyard cottage on a quiet, tree-lined street in a beautiful Palo Alto neighborhood. The cottage is conveniently located across the street from Stanford University campus, less than 1 mile from downtown PA, and walking distance to Caltrain and California Ave--a great little street full of fantastic eats, a health food store, several coffee shops, and a terrific Farmer's Market every Sunday year round. 101 & 280 are easily accessible, and the coastal hills and hiking are just about a 10-15 minute drive away.
The Space: The cottage is artistically decorated, fully furnished (including kitchen), with hardwood floors, a comfy bed, full bath (including tub), on site washer/dryer, internet, and tons of street parking. The cottage boasts a vaulted ceiling with a loft style bedroom, that will make you feel like you're in a cabin in the woods, or staying in a retreat house. In the upstairs loft area, there is a study nook that overlooks redwoods outside. I love to sit at this space and do my work, while taking occasional breaks to look outside and enjoy the view. There is a great park just two blocks away that includes tennis and basketball courts, play structures, and tons of grass and space to spread out.
Though there is only one bed and one bedroom, if you have other guests planning to stay, I can accommodate you with air mattresses which can be placed downstairs.
Other tidbits: Fresh towels and linens provided. I live on site in the front house so I'm around if you need anything from extra soap or towels to recommendations for where to have dinner.
Furry friends: 2 friendly doggies do live on site and may at times utilize the backyard (but will not enter the cottage). If your dog is friendly with other dogs, I'm very open to hosting your pet as well.
Coffee: I have a coffee bean grinder, French Press, and some excellent organic, fair trade coffee on hand for those who cannot go without. Or, see my recommendations in the "Guidebook" for good local coffee shoppes.
What I don't have: No TV-Not a fan of it, but! I'd be happy to leave my projector and speakers out so you can hook up to your laptop and watch movies in bed. No dishwasher. No microwave. No AC, though do have fans. DO HAVE oil radiator space heaters for the winter months. My guests have shared with me how much they've actually enjoyed my minimalist style, and that it's encouraged them to relax and unwind with a book, enjoy walks and good restaurants in the neighborhood, and sitting under the large trees in the backyard. So while this may be Silicon Valley, sometimes low-tech is still the best :) But don't worry, you'll definitely have your internet!
Can be somewhat flexible on check in/out times, write me first to discuss!
On-site laundry room. Guest access to fully stocked kitchen. Backyard with deck.
Excellent weekly farmer's market just a few blocks away, every Sunday from 9-1. Good eats and shops on California Ave.
About 5 blocks from California Ave. Caltrain station.
I do have 2 dogs (chihuahua/terrier mix, and a boxer) who you may encounter on your walk back to the cottage or in the shared yard. Both are very sweet dogs and won't enter the cottage. If you are not a dog person or this is an issue, please let me know.
Caltrain is about 5 blocks away.
I am a big believer in "the golden rule." Please treat my home the way that you would want me to treat yours--with respect, and we'll be alllll gooood! :)
Very nice neighborhood. House was in condition described and appropriately priced for Palo Alto. Only downside was dogs barking at night.
The cottage was a great place to stay. We needed a place that was in walking distance to Stanford so this was very convenient for us. The artsy cottage was roomy and in a quiet location of Palo Alto yet easy to get to places to eat, etc...Katherine was really helpful with recommendations and letting us store our luggage while we finished up our day before heading to San Francisco. Thanks for a great visit!
A very relaxed and fun visit. Katherine is extremely hospitable and helpful. Loved being able to bike up to Stanford. Lots of convenient restaurants and transport. Musn't forget the 2 cute dogs who are very friendly.
Really pretty cottage perfectly situated for access to Stanford campus and downtown Palo Alto. Katherine very helpful prior to rental. Very accurate description of facilities.
Such a peaceful place tucked away and a great first AirBnb experience! I visited to take a short writing/coding vacation and it was the perfect place in a quiet neighborhood to retreat - I only wished I could have stayed longer. Katherine and her dogs are extremely welcoming and the place is uber convenient for Stanford and BART.
The cottage was a great place to stay. Roomy and in a quiet location of Palo Alto yet easy to get to places to eat, etc...Although I didn't use it, I appreciated having the option to use a bike. The fan and heater was a nice touch since the weather was a bit finicky.
My sister and I were in Palo Alto to visit family. We had a comfortable and peaceful stay at the artsy cottage. Katherine was welcoming and accessible. She handled our concerns with kindness and efficiency.
Friendly, curious, spiritually inclined, devoted mother, teacher, nerd. My bookshelf is full of psychology, philosophy, religion, tarot titles. My style is unique and my space is full of my personal artwork. I love playing hostess with the mostess, and will do my very best to make your stay as enjoyable and seamless as possible.
