I didn't get to spend a lot of time with Gianni and Carlo but they were nice hosts. In spite of the language barrier, we were able to communicate our thoughts. The apartment is in a very convenient location. It's very close to the old Rome attractions and you're only a few blocks away from the Colosseo and the Metro Station. The room has it's own toilet and shower. The place is very clean and very homey. I would recommend their room for anyone who wants to experience a taste of Roma.
We stayed in Rome for 5 nights. At arrival Gianni and Carlo were both waiting for us and gave us a very warm welcome. The apartment is in a great (the best?) neighborhood to stay in. Quiet but lively at the same time with many wine bars & restaurants around. Also many of the great touristic sites are at walking distance (50-100m from colosseum).
The room is very decent and clean. The downside might be the size, but that didn't bother us at all as most of the time we were visting Rome. The private bathroom is a big plus. All in all definitely a recommendation!
We where in Gianni and Carlo's place for five days and it was great. Superb location, good facilities like shower etc. would recommend it to everyone. The guys have an ice cream shop around the corner that you should certainly try.
The IceCreamBears apartment was great. Very clean and comfortable. Even though it was a room within their apartment, it felt like we had an apartment all to ourselves because of our own private bathroom. The hosts were very sweet and helpful despite our limited Italian and their limited English. Still, communication was smooth thanks to texting and (website hidden) messaging. Conveniently located near the Colosseum, it is also right in the Rome's Gaybourhood, which is awesome. Also, be sure to try the Pistachio gelato at the IceCreamBears' Gelateria.
Perfect location to everything in Rome
My wife and I spent 5 nights in September in this room, and loved the place! If I were to go to Rome again, I'd pick this place without even thinking twice about it.
Detailed feedback below.
1. Our flight (from India) was delayed by 3 hrs and we had no way to tell this to Gianni until we reached Rome (we could call him only from the Termini's public phones). He was very considerately waiting for us in his apartment although we realised later that he was probably waiting to head elsewhere! This gesture made us feel right at home.
2. As soon as we arrived, Gianni provided a detailed map of the place and gave us suggestions for both local places to eat (we loved the Pizzeria that he recommended and ate dinner there almost every night!), and for nearby places to walk to.
3. Like other reviewers said, I was initially a little skeptical about the "goto the nearby cafe, and you can say you are staying with Icecream bears B&B and you'll get bfast" setup, but it worked like a charm! And that place had very nice coffee, and a very pleasant bar-man too.
4. We met Gianni on the first day and could find him/his friend at their gelateria if we wanted to chat making him easy to approach. We also had all the privacy we wanted during our stay.
5. Their Gelateria is awesome, with some of the best pistacio gelato that we had in Italy! This is an ad beyond just the room :-).
1. Although the room said wi-fi included, the internet connection wasn't working in the house during our stay. Gianni did provide some alternative by the signal on that network was very poor causing us some grief.
2. The room and the bathroom are rather small with very little storage space to keep things around, although a larger room would probably cost more. But it worked perfectly for us as we were out the whole day.
Overall, the positives heavily outweigh the negatives though!
Had a great stay with the Icecreambears! Super nice guys and they own an Italian ice cream shop not far from their place! And the Colosseum is only one block away, too!
I stayed at Gianni and Carlo's place on two separate visits to Rome in June 2013. Both stays were excellent! Gianni and Carlo have great respect for a traveler's need for rest and privacy upon arrival and, after showing me the basics of the room and the keys, they left me to my own devices. On my first visit, Gianni and one of his friends met me out on the street in front of Gianni's place, which was very friendly and accommodating. This wasn't necessary on my second visit, as I knew how to find the main entrance and how to get up to the apartment. I know that Gianni doesn't mention this in the advertisement, but he does make arrangements for his guests to have a typical Italian breakfast at a local cafe on the corner across the street from his place. This breakfast consists of a coffee (espresso, cappuccino, caffe latte) and a croissant or danish-type of pastry. It's pretty amazing to just tell the proprietor that you're a friend of Gianni's and to get a complimentary breakfast. This kind of arrangement likely wouldn't work in North America, but it works in Italy. The room is great, the location is spectacular, and the guys are lovely. I highly recommend it!
Gianni and Carlo are wonderful hosts! Gianni is the one I communicated with regarding the room and he was very helpful with arranging an airport transfer for me, too, with his good friend Bashir. Bashir met me at the airport with a sign with my name on it and he gave me a very warm welcome to Rome. The room at Gianni's place is excellent. Beautiful tall ceilings, very clean, and also very quiet because the bedroom window opens up onto an inner courtyard, not a street. The bed is good and solid. I had great sleeps there. The washroom is also very clean and is super convenient given that it is just off the room and is for guests use only. Gianni and Carlo arrange for their guests to have breakfast at a local cafe called Pier 1, which is included in the price of the room. All you have to do is use your best Italian to tell the proprietor that you are a friend of Gianni's and your cornetti and cappuccino are covered. Clearly, Gianni is a respected neighbour to the Pier 1 proprietor. Bashir has great respect for Gianni, too, speaking of him in the highest of terms. Gianni and Carlo invite their guests to come visit them at their gelateria and to have a free gelato. They are lovely, smiley guys who are super friendly and accommodating. The room is great, and the location is superb! I highly recommend this B & B.
