We're a couple of life lovers, traveling is our favorite activity, next to hanging out with friends and having dinner parties (or just regular parties) We love having people over to share bits of our life, we live in the city and love it.
Now we live in beautiful apartment located in Los Yoses neighbourhood, 15 - 20 min walking distance from San José downtown and 10 min walk to San pedro (Universidad de Costa Rica)
We love art, design & clean organised spaces.
Nice bright bedroom with double bed, lots of sun light through the window.
Fully equipped Kitchen with big Fridge, oven, stove, blender, pans and pots, glasses, plates and everything you could need. Laundry room with washer and lots of space for hanging the clothes out to dry (Dryer available also)
What to expect?
A nice clean place, good vibes, warm friends, open minded people. Art all around. Peace. Security. Comfort.
Located in Los Yoses, a nice neighborhood with access to restaurants, bars, yoga schools and the University of Costa Rica's main campus, a beautiful green place for running and walking.
Taxis 24/7 with service at the door. Cheap buses on the front street. Walking distance from San Pedro & San Jose.
You are welcome to use our kitchen as if yours, our bright and open living room, our balcony where we relax with all our friends who come by for a coffee or to say hi, you're always welcome to join us
Interaction with Guests
We're very social, we treat our guests as friends that we welcome in our city so we try to take you along in our social activities such as going out for a walk, a drink, dinner or also by hanging out at home, sharing wine, beers or any other relaxation elixirs :)
Our neighbourhood is vibrant and very well connected with public transportation, lots of options for food & drinks, restaurants, bars and cafès all within walking distance.
Taxis from San Jose downtown cost around $4 (2000 colones)
There's a bus stop less than 100 meters away with buses to San Jose, San Pedro, Cartago, Curridabat, Turrialba & Irazú Volcanoes
The Atlantic train station is 10 minutes walking distance with trains to Heredia, Cartago and La Sabana.
Other Things to Note
Since we're living next to a main street our home can be noisy during the day though not all rooms are.
1. Cigarettes on the balcony or patio only
2. Tolerant/ open minded / respectful
3. The house must be clean.
4. Two Shared Bathrooms with us. Try to be as clean as possible.
5. Must like gay people! :)
Staying at Juan's apartment was the perfect start for our trip to Costa Rica. It's located in a nice area, you can walk everywhere and the supermarket is downstairs. Juan and his friends were extremly nice, showed us the city, had coffee and dinner together. Thanks to that we had a wonderful weekend in San José.
Juanjo made us feel very welcomed. He made sure to stay in contact even when he was running a bit late due to traffic. As for the accommodations, it's a open minimal spot located close to the University grounds and main road. It's about 15-20 mins walk to the downtown core. The rooms are pretty basic with a bed, chair and closet. It's located above a supermarket which makes it handy for grabbing a quick bite to eat or drinks to relax. Parking a vehicle can be a bit difficult as there is no guaranteed parking but once you get a spot out front you'll be fine. The bathroom is very basic and would be considered bare minimum. The only major issue is noise. Like any apartment near and downtown core and on a main street it can be quite noisy. This one is very noisy so make sure to bring earplugs or noise cancelling headphones. Overall, pretty good experience.
Great place to stay in San José! Safe and great neighborhood (even for two young girls) with a supermarket right below the apartment. Awesome living room with a nice place to eat. The room itself is quite big and you definitely have enough space for suitcases etc. Small but efficient bathroom and even a balcony.
Juan was a really nice host and made our stay comfortable and made it even possible to leave one of our suitcases at his apartment for a week while we were travelling.
All in all we would definitely come again!
Juan is a very friendly host providing us full access to his home. Easily walkable to the main street in Escalante, and right above a supermarket.
Juanjo has a wonderful, airy and bright apartment that is in a convenient location for getting around San Jose. He is a great guy, his art is wonderful, and his group of friends is friendly and pleasant. There is an awesome market right downstairs and a gas station on the corner. The only thing is that it is a little hard to find if you aren't used to not having a street address. But Juanjo was available by phone and all was easy and great. Thank you, Juanjo! Pura vida!
Juanjo is a gem and an amazing host. He was both fun and reliable- super accommodating of my ever changing schedule and made me feel right at home in San Jose. We went to a yoga class and hung out with his friends and everyone I met through Juanjo was also very welcoming. This was the perfect way to end my trip in Costa Rica!
Also, I didn't know San Jose and it was helpful to be situated in a nice area- easy to find cafes and restaurants by walking. I hope to visit Juanjo's Art House again when I return to San Jose.
Such a lovely host! Was so accommodating and went out of his way to make sure that we had everything we could ask for! Place is in a really convenient location above a supermarket as well

Hi! Im Juan, an artist / graphic designer based in San Jose, Costa Rica.
I live in Los Yoses, a neighborhood on the east side of San Jose.
My apartment is nice and bright, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, in a great location, 20 min walking distance from downtown. Nice neighborhood with bars and restaurants.
I love living in the city but in a comfortable and safe yet lively part of town, right in the border between San Jose and San Pedro.
