Arriving from Grand Central, JFK, or LGA? This apartment is conveniently connected to all of them!!
Also, if you are a tourist looking to visit the sites in Midtown Manhattan, please note that my apartment is right near the Jackson Heights metro station, which offers two express lines into downtown Manhattan (12-15 minutes via E or F) as well as three other lines (R, M and 7) if you want to explore Astoria, Flushing, Elmhurst, etc. Of course, Jackson Heights is a destination of its own, with some of the best Indian, Pakistani, Bengali, Thai, Malaysian, Mexican, and South American food in all of NYC (and super cheap too)! I can advise you on my favorite places.
The bedroom is spacious and has amazing natural light. The kitchen is fully equipped as well, and you can use half of the fridge for your leftovers. The shower in the bathroom gets very hot and has amazing pressure. The building has an elevator. There is wifi.
You would be sharing the apartment with one flatmate, a quiet guy who works in the music industry. You might never cross paths, as he is rarely at home.
If you are driving in, there is free on-street parking in this neighborhood. Of course, a car will be worse than useless during your stay here ;)
Write me if you are interested. Any questions, let me know!
Joel is an intelligent, trustworthy problem solver who responds to emails quickly and clearly. You couldn't find a better person with whom to conduct this type of transaction.
The place is great and exactly as described. It's shared by two dudes, so it's not midtown-hotel clean, but you're not paying midtown-hotel prices either.
The neighborhood is awesome! Free street parking is available if you're willing to walk a few blocks to Joel's. Just make sure to read the signs and figure out when street-sweeping happens. It took an average of 8 minutes to get from the apartment door to the subway turnstile. From there it's about 20 minutes on the 7 train to midtown. Take his advice on the food in Jackson Heights; it's cheap and delicious. I always felt safe in the area, and it was surprisingly quiet, even on New Year's Eve.
I deducted a star because his roommate normally smokes inside the apartment, primarily in the bathroom. I sent Joel an email and the smoking stopped the next night. The smell still lingered a bit in the common areas, but it wasn't enough to stick to my clothes or keep me up at night. I am very sensitive/averse to cigarette smoke, so your mileage may vary. Just a heads up that it's not completely smoke-free inside.
All told, it was a very positive experience. I would stay again for sure, and I would keep in touch with the host for his general awesomeness. +1 to Joel for making my inaugural Airbnb trip a good one.
Aside from looking like Michael Douglas's protege in Wall Street in the picture Joel is a fantastic host! His girl Cecilia is a fantastic host also! When we turned up we were at a loose end and Cecilia and Joel were great. They are great people. kind and intelligent and I left with two friends. We hung out and Joel is indeed an expert on all edible things ethnic. Stay here if you go to NY xxx I hope they come visit. And remember Money Never Sleeps :)
We stayed in this room for a few days in October 2013 and were satisfied with this place. Very convenient to the city center and the airport JFK. Unfortunately the landlord, we have not seen, but met with his roommate - a creative and interesting man with him could talk if we knew the language))). All suggest a room for temporary accommodation!
We had very good time in NYC. The apartment is located very well, not to far from the station, and from manhattan, and everything was ok.
Joel gave us many food advices about his area, he was not there but we keep in touch by mail.
Joel was very friendly & helpful during all this experience: he gave us plenty of advice about his great neighborhood (especially for food!). His flat was very clean, his room neat, large & cosy. That was a great experience for our first trip in NYC. We would definitely recommend Joel to all Airbnb users.
