The Space

this adorable, clean-as-a-whistle 650 sq.ft. remodeled cottage is our home, though my sweetie and i have our own private studio bed & bath adjacent to the guesthouse. we are on site most days and sometimes all day; you can find us cooking in the kitchen, finishing projects, and outside in the gardens and with the animals. the guesthouse has two bedrooms and one bathroom. we and the guests share all common areas (kitchen, living room, bathroom, laundry, outdoor deck, yard, and parking lot).

- 4.5 miles from the seatac airport tucked away in a middle class hilltop neighborhood
- super-easy access to eight major highways
- 15 MINUTES' DRIVE TO DOWNTOWN SEATTLE, 20 EASY MINUTES VIA BUS (bus stop is located at the bottom of the hill, a 4-minute walk)
- park and trails within blocks for walking/running/biking, soccer, + tennis
- short walk to the golf course, a family-run italian restaurant, 4 casinos, 24-hr starbucks, + a 7-11
- 1 mile away is a swimming pool + public library
- 1.5 miles to a family fun center + a soccer park complex
- 2 miles away (easy bus access) is a huge chic shopping area with movie & IMAX theater, restaurants, seafood city, iFly, + bowling alley
- 10 min. drive north is the georgetown seasonal saturday farmers market/flea market and hip hangout notable for antique/decor shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants

- cozy, clean, + sunny with winter sunrise view of the backyard, renton hills, + the cascade mountains
- comfy double bed, antique metal frame, down comforter (or summer coverlet with blankets) + lots of pillows
- built-in closet with hanging shelving + luggage rack
- bedside table with lamp + a long mirror

BREAKFAST IS DO-IT-YOURSELF with onsite high quality, usually organic ingredients, often local or homemade; usually hot whole bean/grain cereal is available in the mornings, with various healthy toppings for guests to use to their liking.

enjoy seasonally available surplus produce + fresh eggs. experience caring for animals and tending gardens year-round on a developing quarter-acre urban plot. sample jodi's homemade vegan seed milk + other creations. indulge in conversations + get a taste of what it's like to become more self-sufficient in one's own yard, less dependent on commercial + processed offerings, + more conscientious about curbing the waste we create.

**PLEASE SEE 'HOUSE RULES' FOR VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION; please tell me in your reservation request that you agree to these (ESPECIALLY REGARDING GARBAGE). after you receive your confirmation + itinerary, see 'house manual' for additional helpful info/notes.

NEED MORE SPACE? there is *one additional room* available in the guesthouse--see the 'my other listings' icon/photo.

NOTE: DISCOUNTED WEEKLY RENTAL RATES ARE FOR ONE PERSON. add $10/night per extra person. 'extra person' includes children who are mobile and walking.

PETS AND KIDS: pet(s) and/or kid(s) are welcome if pet(s)/kid(s) will obey voice commands, not jump on furniture or people unless invited, has/have no annoying, destructive, or noisy behaviors, and is/are not a danger or liability to other animals and people. CHECK WITH ME FIRST, HOWEVER, FOR COMPATIBILITY AND OTHER CONCERNS. *regrettably, cats are not permitted at this time.

VISION: we're creating an urban microfarm complete with multiple gardens and animals, which at this time consist of dog asha, four hens, four mini-mancha dairy goats (two mamas + their two kids born in 2012), four ducks + honeybees (far from the house (email hidden) hive with a viewing window)!

ASSISTANCE: i'd love to help you get the most out of your visit to seattle by helping you choose and find activities such as tango, yoga, adult ballet, permaculture, running, capoeira, flying or static trapeze, parkour, adult gymnastics, coffee houses, local farmers markets, hiking, acrobatics, swing + blues dancing, road trips, skiing, beaches, parks, meetup groups, rollerblading, public transportation, great restaurants, + shopping. if there's something i don't know about, the internet will come to our rescue!

AIRPORT PICKUP AVAILABLE--prearrange with me and i'll come get you for free when my schedule allows; otherwise a taxi costs about $15 and arrives in less than 10 minutes.

VIBE: if you prefer to crash and not interact much, teo + i will politely and quietly stay out of your way and let you do your own thing. if you want to visit and chat, join us while we're feeding the animals, working in the yard, or whipping up yummies in the kitchen.

  • I loved my stay in Jody's lovely home! I arrived from the airport late in the evening after a full day of travel, and felt immediately like I was visiting a welcoming friend instead of staying in a sterile hotel. The house has quite the artistic touch. My room and the bathroom was clean and tidy, and I slept great. I smiled waking to the sounds of birds at dawn, and looked out my window to see happy chickens and ducks. Ducks can be known for quacking a bit, but these ducks are quite considerate of others and are very quiet. I enjoyed helping myself early in the morning to a cup of coffee and using the internet. Early breakfast was a nice bowl of oatmeal with fresh yummy strawberries from the garden, and brunch was two fried fresh farm eggs! Jody had told me about a great walk nearby on the Green River Trail. Really nice to stretch my legs out before more travel that day. The shower head and pressure is fantastic, and I felt rested and fortified. Jody and her partner are so warm and welcoming, and it was a true treat to see visit her little farm oasis. I loved the whole feeling of staying in a house versus a hotel, and supporting someone who's vision of growing food, having an organic kitchen, zero waste I share. I highly recommend staying here!

  • The farmlette is absolutely lovely and cosy. Very well furnished place with plenty of amenities and room. The house dog was a joy to be with and Jodi baked some delicious cookies for us. The only issue was the location of the place, pretty far from the nearest bus stop and there was some miscommunication during check in.

    Response from Jodi:

hi yu han, i can only imagine that you did not find the nearest neighborhood bus stop, which is only a 5-minute walk and, as all our other guests have said below, extremely convenient. so sorry about the keycode not being on your itinerary--we hope the complimentary bus passes and cookies eased the pain a bit! thanks a bunch and we hope to see you again.

  • My husband & I loved our stay with Jodi & Tao (and all the farm animals!!) They are great Airbnb host...both friendly & helpful but not at all I intrusive. We had no problem finding the house as we read & followed the clear instructions on the itinerary that was provided once we booked on Airbnb. My only regret is that we did not have more time but I look forward to coming back to stay again in the future. Happy Travels!!!

  • I drove by the place in the dark a bunch of times before I found it but the bed was comfortable and place was clean. It was great to get to choose and make my breakfast. I would stay here again when I need to. Love that sweet dog, would love to know her/his name. He/she hung out with me while I chanted on the sunny back deck. Thank you Jodi!

    Response from Jodi:

hi jen, great feedback about the sign on the gate--i'll look for a solution, maybe solar lighting. and asha is named repeatedly in the reviews as well as photo captions and listing description. she sure loves our guests. come see us again!

  • Although we had a really quick stay the farmlette was pleasantly perfect! Hot breakfast with fixings; generous and welcoming conversation; and a comfortable, warm, attractive space with room for lounging and letting city stresses go. Highly recommended :)

  • We had a great experience with Jodi and Teo. The farmlette was adorable and a nice break from hotels and hostels. Our room was clean and we had everything we needed. The neighborhood is quiet but close enough to anywhere you need to go (if you have a car.)

  • My 6 y.o. daughter and I came to Seattle just to stay at Jodi's. We live in Tacoma, but I grew up on a farm. I was almost as excited as my daughter for her to meet Jodi's farm animals and get to know them personally. We truly enjoy Jodi's farmlette and all their animals.
The big bed is the warmest, most beautiful and most comfortable bed ever! We slept like little chicks in a nest.
Jodi is always making her farmlette prettier and more comfortable in little and big ways. The spring flowers were blooming and the garden starting to bud out. The seed packs were neatly displayed on the wall as Spring decoration in the living room. We learned so much from it too.
My daughter got to help feed animals and collect eggs, which we were able to enjoy fresh that day! Jodi even shared her egg wealth for us to bring some home!

Jodi's farmlette is a phenomenal farm experience for a little girl...and a wonderful quiet placw for her mom to watch her discoveries.
We look for opportunities to come stay here. At a price that is affordable to families and a location near Seattle, the quiet of the farmlette brings a longlost simplicity to life that is elusive in the modern world. However, having easy access to wifi (to share the moments and keep in touch) and nearness to good food and big-city entertainmentgives you the best of both worlds.
Thank you Jodi for your attention to detail and love for the earth that is evident in every aspect of your home and living. I couldn't ask for a better example for my little girl or for me.

  • So glad I found this place close to the airport. It's very cute and nicely decorated. Jodi is very attentive to your needs and there's lots of little notes around to guide you. All of the animals are nice and friendly and so are the other guests. The best is one of the most comfortable I've slept on while traveling. I'm excited to bring my wife back the next time we're in town. Jodi is a wonderful host with a wonderful place to stay!

  • My stay at Jodi's was great. They have averything you need for a comfortable stay. A fully stocked kitchen, comfortable bed and plenty of room to make yourself at home. There are lables to answer any questions and eliminate and doubt of where to put things. Jodi and Teo were very nice!

  • This was my second visit to the farmlette. Because of my conference, I did not see Jodi at all. However, everything was as neat and cozy as before. It was so good to have a comfortable place to come back to at the end of my intense days. So quiet and peaceful. Thank you Jodi!

out of dozens of interests, travelling is one of our top five favorites. we enjoy helping folks with their plans like folks have helped us when we are far from home. we strive to provide the kind of place that travellers like us revel in discovering: something off the beaten path that's unique, a "find," a great deal/value, clean, safe, stylish, helpful, friendly, a nest at the end of the day and a place that positively stimulates thoughts towards envy and delight and gratitude. you undoubtedly have a unique perspective and worldview to share and we can all gain from knowing one another.
