The bedroom is an incredible, funky little room on the rooftop, with a full wall of windows facing Manhattan, a queen sized bed, a great desk, and a rooftop hammock just outside. You have likely never seen such a special, charming space.
Our home is unique in a variety of ways.
By New York City standards, we have an unprecedented amount of space. It's a 3-story (2 bedroom) apartment, on the top floor of a brand-new building.
The apartment is brand new, so all of the appliances are in excellent condition (stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, washer/dryer, etc.). At the same time, we are creative, energetic young people, so the space has a human, relaxed feeling to it, rather than the stuffy feeling that can come with new things.
Your bedroom is an incredible, funky little room on the rooftop, with a full wall of windows facing Manhattan, a queen sized bed, a great desk, and a rooftop hammock just outside. You have likely never seen such a special, charming little bedroom. It's comfortable, and even feels spacious and relaxed. The view is unmatched, the bed is extremely comfortable, and the room is being summer-ized, so there will be screen on all of the windows, to allow lots of fresh air (but no mosquitoes) and there will be at least two fans for the warm summer nights. Having access to one of the most comfortable rooftops in the city is an added bonus. With a great hammock, an electric outlet, a table and some folding chairs, it's almost like having your own outdoor patio to yourself.
We share our home freely, and hope for you to feel comfortable and relaxed while living with us. You are welcome to all of the basics, as far as the kitchen, bathroom, etc as well as the cozy extras, such as our beautiful balcony and rooftop, and the super convenient washer and dryer.
We buy food from the park slope food co-op, so there is excellent fresh vegetables, fruit and meats. We roast our own coffee.
Interaction with Guests
We love our space and enjoy hosting guests. We're more than happy to help show you a nice time while you're visiting. We can help recommend restaurants, cafes, or little known tourist locations.
At the same time, having different levels to the apartment, as well as the high ceilings and tons of natural light makes it easy to share the space with a number of people, without feeling cramped.
You are welcome to be totally on your own schedule without interacting with us at all, if you prefer.
Our apartment is in a great neighborhood: Prospect Heights. There are lots of great little restaurants & cafes (an artisan-coffee-lovers dream) and multiple grocery stores (including numerous places to buy organic and local produce).
The neighborhood is very nice to walk around, with a good balance of residential (many beautiful brownstones) and commercial space, and a generally warm and relaxed community.
We are also a short walk away from the largest park in Brooklyn, Prospect Park, which includes the Botanical Gardens, the Brooklyn Museum, two large lakes, lots of space for running & biking, and a great lawn.
We are also in an excellent location as far as transit. Only two blocks away is the S (Shuttle) train, which connects to the C train or the 2/3, 4/5, B or Q. Walking a bit further, all of these trains can be directly accessed, as well as the D,N,R, or even the G train. Atlantic Terminal/Barclay's Center is a 15 minute walk away, with access to the LIRR.
For those driving, our street has good on-street parking, with only four hours a week restricted due to street cleaning.
Other Things to Note
The home is occupied by young, left-wing intellectuals. We are students and writers, from america, portugal, and morocco. If this is interesting to you, we will happily enjoy thoughtful conversations over dinner or out on the balcony, about all sorts of topics.
Please be aware and respectful of the fact that we are often working from home.
* please no smoking inside. smoke only on the balcony or the rooftop.
* Alcohol is ok in our house, but please try to be respectful about your consumption and try not to drink to excess in our home.
* Other drugs are not welcome.
* We share food freely, but if you are staying for more than a couple of days, it's nice if you contribute either money or food towards the house supply.
* In the summer months, we try to dry laundry on the line, rather than with the dryer, to conserve energy.
We had such a wonderful experience. We were in Billy's room while he was away. It was even better than described. The view was amazing and there is a door that goes directly to the roof deck. I imagine this would be lovely In the summer months (we still enjoyed it despite being December)! The bed was very comfortable and the room decorated in cozy decor. Billy's roommate Aymane was are go to person. He was so helpful and very flexible in being home for us to check-in. We enjoyed talking about life in Brooklyn. The neighbourhood is great, close to 3 subway stations with trains directly to Manhattan. There are some great places to eat near by. Staying here was a perfect opportunity for us to explore Brooklyn. We felt like we had a more authentic New York experience. We would most definitely go back.
I had an amazing time staying here. My hosts were friendly and kind and made me feel at home. The view from the rooftop (and the room) was incredible. The neighborhood has lots of restaurants and coffee shops and was fun to wander around. A great experience.
I really enjoyed the space! Billy made arrangements and Ricardo was there to meet me. Really appreciated the simplicity of it all, I was not in the house very much, but my time there was greatly appreciated.
The roommates were very kind and accommodating of me and my boyfriend. The stairs were a bit steep and it was a bit rough hauling luggage up and down, but the view was spectacular. We arrived around 10 on a Thursday night and found a place about two blocks walk from the apartment called Citrico--the food was amazing and they are open late. Overall it was a great experience and I would stay again.
We were for 2 nights at Billy apartment and we were very happy there. We were impressed about the views of the nyc skyline from bed!Room was small but enough for us and the bed was really comfortable. Very Friendly housemates and great location - close to subways, it was very easy to get into Manhattan and nice neighborhood.
I stayed in Billys room for 3 nights in Ocotber. First night was warm but isolation of the room is not that great so next 2 nights were kind of cold but I had an extra blanket. It is a very small room but the view is amazing and when travelling alone it is just enough space. The stairs are super narrow and steep so watch out but you will get used to it. Billy was not home so I got to meet his 3 housemates and they were super friendly and helpful. The house is nice and modern even with an elevator. Area around is okay and you will find subways within 10 min walking distance. Also you will find food stores and cafés there. Go to milk bar for breakfast! It is very good.
So if you want to explore Brooklyn and surroundings it is a good place to start from. Thanks for having me.
The view was just as described. The room was tiny, but quite adequate. We loved having the easy roof access. Towels were set out for us, great bed -- we slept well. Everything was nice and clean.
Neighborhood was interesting, and comfortable. We enjoyed our meals at the local eateries.
