Private room available with big, comfortable queen sized futon. Access to a shared bathroom. Full kitchen, living room, deck w/ BBQ also available with shared access and pretty views.
In town location so no need to rent a car. Laundry ( 1 load per each night stayed) and internet available.
If you're looking for a base while visiting Homer and to spend more time outside than inside while on a budget, this is the place for you. No frills and comfortable place to crash.
It's a large, clean, and simple room in a 2 bedroom/1.5 bath duplex. That means we do have to share a bathroom, but we do have a half bath upstairs. So far, sharing has never been an issue. There is a little yard and gorgeous views of the mountains. Fully equipped kitchen and living room with large flat screen tv and tons of DVDs. There is also a deck with a grill available for use. Washer and dryer located in unit. Internet is also available.
We do not serve breakfast, but there is coffee available upstairs as well as we put a small bowl of fruit in your room. I don't always get a chance to make fresh coffee every morning, but coffee will never be over a day old, so just pop it in the microwave. If you want anything, please just ask. We are happy to accommodate reasonable requests.
Guests who stay with us receive a 10% discount with Kristen's fishing and wildlife viewing charter. Please message for more details.
Lastly, please note, we are heavily involved with pet rescues which means we have 3 of our own. The kitty litter box is in the garage so you won't smell it although we do clean it on a daily basis. We do our best to keep cleanliness while having 3 pets. Just remember this is their house too.
We have put the cost low because we don't charge an extra fee for the 2nd guest. We don't charge a cleaning fee or require a deposit. We don't serve breakfast and we do have pets. In doing that, we like to keep the cost low for travelers that love traveling as much as we do and are trying to see the world on a budget.
We also like to stress that while there is a kitchen available for use, we all have to share it, so please be considerate and don't overtake the kitchen for hours on end and we will do the same. No fish filleting or processing inside the house please. The smell lingers and is nearly impossible to get rid of.
This is not a good match for you if you want to spend a lot of time hanging out at "home", don't like animals, or want a place with all the bells and whistles. We are simply an affordable place to crash so you can spend your money seeing our beautiful town.
There is a house manual that contains info about parking, wifi, etc.
Guest have access to all spaces but our bedroom and garage. Guests have priority for the bathroom (as well as the half bath upstairs). Guests do not have access to our food (unless for the following: salt, pepper, cutlery, dishes, pots and pans) and can do laundry according to nights they stay. 1 night = 1 load of washing. 2 nights = 2 nights of washing, etc. If that's an issue, I'm sure we can sort something out.
Interaction with guests
We have another place on another property which we plan on staying a lot at during the summer, so we may not be around much. We also work a lot. However, we will make sure you feel welcome and are more than happy to point out "must see" spots and guide you through your adventure in Alaska. Kristen works for herself on a halibut charter boat and at a water taxi company so can provide a wealth of information on all the hiking and fishing around Kachemak Bay.
Ash is a real estate agent so if you fall in love with Homer and decide you want to stay, he can help you out!
Other things to note
We do have 2 cats and 1 dog but we keep the house very clean, so there isn't cat hair everywhere. One of them, Tucker, acts like a dog like he'll be pretty interested in you and constantly want attention (he even plays fetch and does tricks for treats!). The other, Katniss, is deaf and pretty much keeps to herself. Pets are welcome as long as they get along with cats and dogs! Our rescue dog, Taz, is a laid back older dog, very well behaved and goes to work with one of us during the day. She is super friendly and will want to see what you're up to. If we stay at our other property, she will be with us.
Respect our place like you would respect yours.
Please smoke outside.
Turn off the lights when not in use.
Please text, call, or message me with a time of arrival. I really want to make sure either I'm available or a key is available when you get there. Plus, I'd like to make sure my dog is with me when she meets you.
Please don't throw anything down the toilet except for toilet paper. It will clog the toilet.
Please don't eat our food. We do not offer breakfast. There is a small fruit bowl in your room and let me know if you need more fruit. We also have drip coffee with milk and sugar available upstairs. Please feel free to make yourself coffee. You can cook in the kitchen. We just have to share the kitchen so let's both be considerate with the usage. You may use the pots, pans, cooking utensils, dishes, silverware, paper towels, salt, and pepper. Anything else, you need to provide. Please no fish filleting or processing. There are tables down at the harbor for that.
Please watch the water usage. Water is expensive. Thank you.
Guests can do 1 load of washing per night they stay. 1 night = 1 load of washing. 2 nights = 2 loads of washing. 3 nights = 3 loads of washing. I ask this because I want to keep the cost of the room down for everyone.
If the house key is lost, there is a $10 fee for replacement.
There is a large sign outside to remind guests, but in case you don't see it - our cats are strictly indoor cats only, so please shut the front door when going in and out.
If you have any reasonable requests, we are happy to try to accommodate them. Just ask : )
