My home is a one bedroom shotgun on the edge of the Bayou St. John Neighborhood.
For you Jazz Festers, it's an easy 20 minute walk to Jazz Fest (through Bayou St. John and across Esplanade).
It's on Lafitte between the bayou and Broad (walking distance to the bayou, City Park, Parkway Bakery, Pal's and Bayou Beer Garden! Less than a mile Canseco's Grocery & Fair Grinds Coffee Shop, less than a mile to Rouse's Market, a major grocery store).
The Canal Streetcar line is about 3 blocks away, it's an easy ride in and out of the quarter.
It was remodeled last year, so is in immaculate shape! The bedroom has a queen size bed. The kitchen has all the basics fridge & stove (of course) pots, pans, utensils, blender/food processor.
Living room has a desk, recliner and extra long couch.
I do NOT have TV, internet, or a washer/dryer. There's a laundromat near the grocery stores.
This space would be ideal for a couple, small fam, or pack of friends who are cool with the couch/air mattress set up. 6 people could squeeze in, but it would definitely be tight with all the air mattresses, but really, you're in New Orleans! You won't be spending much time at the house.
No smoking indoors please.
Please no dragging heavy things all over the nice wood floor.
Other than that, no rules in particular. I expect you to respect my home and belongings.
I'll try to tuck what's not useful to you under the bed so it's out of the way.
We had a great time at Melanie's place. Her house is very, very clean and cozy. About at 30 minute wall to the city which was quite enjoyable. I will be staying there again.
Melanie was very accommodating and very accurately described all aspects of the house and surrounding area. She was accessible by text and email. She met the first guests to arrive and gave them some good recommendations on where to eat and how to get around. She was honest about the sleeping arrangements and how 6 people would be a tight fit - it was, but we were ready for that because of her warning. We even accidentally broke some wine glasses and she didn't charge us extra, very nice of her. Overall a very pleasant experience, and all her descriptions were accurate.
Melanie was very kind and she gave us very good advice! We had a really great time in New Orleans!
This was my first Airbnb experience and I couldn't have asked for more. Melanie was kind, thoughtful and honest. She was always quick to respond to questions as well.
The house was exactly what we expected. Very cozy, but a tight squeeze for my group of 7, which she made very clear in the communication leading up to the rental. The neighborhood may not seem like the safest, but all the neighbors were very friendly. Parkway Bakery was only a couple of blocks away and our group was hooked on their poboys. This restaurant is a MUST VISIT.
The walk to jazz fest was easy to navigate a s took about 20 minutes. I will definitely be staying here again for my next jazz fest experience. Melanie was great!
My friends and I were looking for a place to stay over St Pattie's day weekend and that's when we found Melanie's shotgun house. From the outset Melanie was quick to respond and provided a clean, charming house for us to stay in. It's a short walk to the street car to get into the French Quarter where we spent most of our time, it's about a 30 minute trip to the French Quarter. We were happy with our stay. Thanks
I came down for Mardi Gras with a group of 6. Melanie mentioned that lodgings might be tight with that number, but we had more than enough room for the weekend. Not the easiest walk to the French Quarter (cabs worked best for us), but there are plenty of cool places and restaurants to check out close to the location. We had a great time. This was my first experience with Airbnb, and Melanie made it super easy for us.
This was my first experience with Airbnb and Melanie and her house exceeded expectations. Melanie was always very quick to respond, extremely kind and helpful and very accommodating. She left us a great note and thoughtful supplies (beads, solo cups, koozies.)
We rented her house for VodooFest and it worked out perfect. We literally stepped outside and followed the music for a reasonable walk to City Park. It was also close to other bars and a trolley stop. Her house was as advertised - we only ended up having two of us spend the weekend (my other friends are lame) but it could easily fit 4.
I'm Melanie, 30 years old and proudly from Washington state. After a year and a half of dreaming about it, packed all I could in my car and drove to New Orleans. I arrived the day before Mardi Gras last year (an accident) and have been loving it ever since. In 10 months I've lived in 4 different neighborhoods. I finally settled here at the tip of the Bayou and here I'm going to stay.
I work for WWOZ (90.7 FM), an amazing community jazz, blues, New Orleans music radio station. Tune in! And when you go home, you don't have to leave the music behind!
I love to laugh, ride bikes, play tennis (and games in general), dance, converse, hike, and learn. (Yes, i Love to eat. I do think it's possible that i'm addicted to tasty treats. baked goods... they get me.) I'm laid back, enthusiastic, easy to get along with, open-minded and sincere.
With the exception of college (Ohio) and some stints living abroad (mostly France and Mexico) I've lived in WA all my life prior to this venture. It's important to me to experience a different American culture and New Orleans seems like the perfect place for me to do it.
