Kaimuki Urban Plantation - Mango

House - Private room · Sierra Dr, Honolulu, HI 96816, United States

The Space

This is the mango room at the Kaimuki Urban Plantation, the smaller of the two rooms available on this property. Suited for 1 traveler. It is set adjacent to the mango trees, hence the name.

Waikiki is CRAZY! Sometimes it's just too much. Those looking for a bit of respite from the madness yet still right next to the action will find this room in Kaimuki the perfect alternative. Nestled on the hillside of Whilemina Rise, this property hosts two homes, a studio, and terraced gardens. On the top terrace sits the wine barrel hot tub and lawn. A short walk down the hill will find you in Honolulu's favorite quaint town...Kaimuki. Home to some of the best Restaurants in town suiting all budgets, bars, and other fun shopping opportunities.

Your hosts Louise and Kahi can guide you to the secrets of Hawaii allowing you to experience true Hawaii. One of the best hikes on the island is just up the road and some of the best beaches are just a short ride away. Public transportation is available just a block away and can get you almost anywhere on the island as Oahu's public transportation is one of the nations best.

The room in our house is unique from others on this website because it is an opportunity to live as a local in an unforgettable setting.

There are two airBnB rooms in this house. This room is the smaller of the two rooms and therefore more economic. We live in the house with you and sometimes the other airbnb room is booked too. But it doesn't get crowded. The property has all the seclusion you could want to just find your special spot to soak in the view, or soak in the tub, or BOTH!

  • Don't know where to start...It was a phenomenal stay at Kahi and Louise appealing and comfortable house at Kaimuki. At the first time, I felt like home. I loved my room, with a gorgeous view over the city. Kahi and Louise are a very warm, helpful, respectful and charming couple. They gave me so many precious information and good advices about the Island of Hawaii. It was always very fun to talk with them.
Kahi took me many times to the North Shore and showed my so beautiful hidden beaches. I appreciated it, I was like a part of their family!

They allowed my to use the snorkel gear, surfboards, beachtowels, and the whole kitchen!
    Just great.

Tracy, the sweet girl from downstairs is super nice. It was a pleasure to meet her.

To sum up: My stay was a great experience I'll never forget. I'll definitely come back.

  • Where do I start? Kahi and Louise ROCK!! I could not have asked for a better first-time airbnb experience – it was everything I was hoping for and more. Simply perfection.

Despite an auspicious start, with my rather mortifying mixup on my arrival time (they had agreed to pick me up from the airport), Louise remained exceedingly gracious.

The property is really special, and simply wicked. Those views! The hot-tub! The serenity! Total beach-shack, indoor/outdoor vibe, super comfortable, chill. The only remarks I have are that the stairs could be noted in the ad. I had heavy suitcases, and wasn’t expecting the stairs, and although they weren’t that bad, there may be those for whom that would be a deal-breaker. Also, the house is comfortably lived in, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for someone who needs/likes things shiny and sterile. I love that they are growing their own food, including a small, closed-loop fish farming system – rad!! And Reggie the dog is full of personality and super sweet.

I wish my stay had been a bit more relaxed, but having just relocated here, I had to hit the ground running, and Kahi, Louise, and their housemate were beyond accommodating in answering all of my questions – Kahi even went through room listings with me (he likes to know what’s going on in the local rental market), making for an incredibly smooth launch into my new life here in Hawai’i.

Kahi and Louise are so full of the aloha spirit, and were incredibly generous with their suggestions/advice. Louise pointed me towards cool beaches/spots frequented by locals that kept me away from the crowds, and I soaked up everything I could about the culture and language - Kahi even shared a rare and special treat of fresh, hand-pounded pa’I’ai (the dense, concentrated taro paste to which water is added to make poi), which was delicious! Their housemate made the guests some yummy banana bread. They didn’t charge me to use the bike - although it did require some work to get in running order, which I was happy to tend to, including getting a bell (a must have in a not-so-bike-friendly place) – she rides like a champ now! It was great to get to meet some of their friends, and I even ended up volunteering for a beach cleanup on my last day – which also afforded the opportunity to see more of this spectacular island, and the chance to meet some locals in Ka’a’awa while the guys went surfing.

The perfect end to a perfect stay.

I can’t thank Kahi and Louise enough!

Mahalo nui loa for all the aloha!!

  • Kahi and Louise are the best hosts ever, hands down. And their house is so awesome that you won't want to leave. I literally felt a tear well up as I left the house. The best thing about staying there is that you feel welcome and at ease the minute you get there. Kahi and Louise have a laid-back yet attentive and caring style. They afford you privacy and personal space but also are willing to let you in on all that is great about Hawaii, especially the Aloha spirit. Plus they are both super fun to hang out with. The house is a real gem. It is built on a hill with gardens, a waterfall and a wicked hot tub that has an amazing city view. I really enjoyed the fact that you are away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki but you have cool shops and restaurants just around the corner (wicked good liquor store with killer deli yum :) And you can bus it into town easily if you are not in a rush. I had a car for the second half of my stay but I didn't even use it much as I just loved staying at the house. I am sure I would not have enjoyed Honolulu half as much if I stayed elsewhere. So if you are looking for a great place for your trip to Honolulu look no further. I hope you love it as much as I did!

  • it was my first experience using AIr bnb and it was a good one. Kahi is the most wonderful of hostess as well as Louise. I felt save and comfortable. I felt I was back in my beach bum days in Puerto Rico (where I'm from). I will not hesitate to go back and stay with them when I visit Oahu again. I felt part of their family and friends.
    Aloha y Namaste!!!!

  • I enjoyed staying in Kaimuki. Louise was very nice and accommodating. Location was perfect. Far enough but still close to Waikiki that a cab ride was only $15. The house is warm and inviting! I felt right at home my first night :) when I come back to Hawaii I will def stay here again if it's available!! :) thanks Louise!!
