The Space

"Fiammettina", meaning the little flame is a fully modernized, super-central elegant contemporary Roman apartment in a medieval building. It's well-equipped and right near Piazza Navona. There's an elevator, a court-yard with ancient artifacts and you can stroll to all of Rome's historic sites.

Guest have found it very comfortable - it's recently renovated though the building is charmingly ancient.

  • Fantastic stay in Rome. The apartment is perfect for two people - very clean and cosy! The building is safe with many security doors leading up to the apartment. My boyfriend and I also found the surrounding area to be equally safe and we felt comfortable returning late at night. The location is very central and the tourist sights are very walkable.

Martin and his team are so helpful and emailed us throughout our trip with tips and advice for our stay. Any questions we had were answered within a matter of minutes!

We were definitely glad we chose this apartment over a hotel!

The apartment is just around the corner from Piazza Navona and very close to the river. Filippo greeted us at the apartment despite our flight delay and was very nice and helpful also.

Tip: the street behind the apartment has a supermarket, restaurants and a lovely place for Gelato - 'Gelato de Teatro', very interesting flavours! I recommend the Raspberry and Sage with White Chocolate.

    Response from Martin:

Merci Aurelia!

  • Martin was a very helpful and responsive host. His wiki provided lots of helpful tips, Martin and his sister Elizabeth kept in contact with us leading up to and throughout our visit to make sure we had everything we needed.

The studio was great. Good amount of space for two people, safe building, and the location was perfect. Piazza Navona was about a one minute walk away, with many restaurants and cafes to hang out in. There were also lots of little restaurants in the little streets around the apartment. Via dei Coronari, which was one street to the right of the apartment, had lots of little shops, cafes, restaurants, and a very good gelateria (Gelateria Teatro, delicious).

The Vatican was only about a 15-minute walk away. There is a bus stop just a few steps outside of the apartment (literally about 30-seconds away), where the #87 bus will take you directly to the Colosseum and Palatine Hill and takes about 10 minutes to get there. The Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain were only about a 10 - 15 minute walk away as well.

  • This apartment was in an excellent location and was just as the pictures showed. The bathroom was a little on the cramped side. Martin was very informative and helpful leading up to our trip, his sister even arranged our transportation for us.

  • We had a great experience staying at Piazza Fiammetta! The CasaPicard team was very helpful -- you can tell that they love their city and want to make sure you have an unforgettable time in Rome. Martin was already waiting for us when we arrived and gave us a quick tour of the apartment, along with helpful tips about the area. He is a very nice host!

The apartment is clean and spacious, but the biggest plus for us was the location -- right by Piazza Navona! You can walk to almost all of the major tourist draws from here, but if desired public transportation is closeby. It's also a very safe area; we didn't get back to the apartment until well after dark every single day and not once felt unsafe.

Since it's off a side street the apartment is pretty quiet at night. I loved the view from the window, especially at night in the rain -- the picture doesn't do it justice.

Quick dinner recommendation that wasn't in the wiki: Le Segrete. A tiny restaurant within easy walking distance that's big on flavor. Nothing fancy, but generous helpings of delicious meals that taste like the best homecooked meals you've ever had. Especially the lasagna is amazing.

  • What a great neighborhood to stay in! We were within walking distance of nearly everything we wanted to see (Vatican, Fountain Trevi, Colliseum, Spanish Steppes...), and a nearby street had everything we needed (restaurants, coffee, shopping, groceries...) Martin & his sister Elizabeth were gracious hosts, helping us arrange a van from the airport, as well as a fantastic tour of the Vatican (Pina is a great guide). We had a great stay in Rome.

  • Filippo's family building and apartment, rented by Martin, is absolutely the perfect way to experience Rome. It is steps away from everything you MUST see and a short walk from fabulous quaint neighborhoods, Vatican City, etc. We walked everywhere. The bed is comfortable and the window with the typical large shutters leading out to the alley street gives you the feeling you are a real local. We never used the kitchen and, yes, the bathroom is a bit small, but I would rent this place again if we were to come back. Filippo is a wonderfully interesting man and he met us to let us in and get us settled. The Martin team is extremely attentive (via email) and can be reached anytime to offer help or suggestions for your Rome experience.
