Comfy room in my 3 BR/1.5 BA home on a quiet street in Church Hill. Easy walking distance to several good restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, and a little market/bar. Convenient to downtown business district and I-95. Must like cats!
The yellow guest room is furnished with a full-size bed, nightstands with reading lamps, and a secretary desk/dresser. It is small but cozy, and the bed is very comfortable. There is no TV in the room, but there is a TV/DVD/VCR in the den down the hall that you are welcome to use if there is no other guest staying there.
Fresh towels and bed linens are provided when you arrive. Unlike a hotel, I do NOT provide housekeeping services in your room during your stay. You can make your bed, or not, as you choose. Guests may use the laundry facilities as needed.
Amenities include washer/dryer and wireless internet. I do not provide breakfast, although you are welcome to help yourself to coffee, tea, and any other beverages you may find in the kitchen fridge. You can also use some fridge space to store food and drinks of your own.
Bathrooms, kitchen, living and dining areas are shared with me and my cat. My boyfriend and his friendly dog are also often around.
I may also host additional guests in my second guest room, in which case these amenities are also shared with them.
Interaction with Guests
During the week I am usually around in the mornings and evenings. If I am hosting a larger party, I sometimes opt to stay at my boyfriend's place. I travel a lot on weekends so if you're booking a weekend, you may or may not see me.
I can not necessarily be at the house to meet you, but I can always arrange to leave a key so that you can arrive at a time that is convenient for you.
My home is a 3 bedroom/1.5 bathroom detached row house on a quiet street in Church Hill. The house is situated within a few blocks of several good restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, and a little market/bar. There are also a few parks with nice views of the river and the city. Additional destinations in Church Hill, Shockoe Bottom/Shockoe Slip, and the downtown business district are also easily accessible.
There is plenty to do within a short walk or bike ride. If you want to use public transit, there's a bus stop for route 45 on the corner, and stops for several other routes nearby (look up the GRTC website for route info). There is also plenty of on-street parking if you travel by car.
Other Things to Note
If you are interested in booking, please send me a message BEFORE submitting a reservation. People who try to book a room without messaging me first will most likely be declined. Sorry for any inconvenience.
I have an elderly cat, and I can not permit any other pets, no matter how friendly and well-trained. My cat roams the house but he is not allowed in the yellow room, out of consideration for guests that may have allergies.
I have a security system, and ask that guests set it when they leave the house if I am not there. It is also set at night once everyone is in for the night. You will find details in the house manual.
This is a smoke-free household.
Otherwise, basic decency and respect for my personal space and belongings are all I expect.
Kirsten wad helpful when I needed her and was as busy as I was, so we really saw very little of each other. She gave me a mini concert while preparing for a gig at the Irish Festival
A sweet vintage home. Good bed, clean bathroom and I did use kitchen a few times. It was a bit difficult for me to navigate with my crutches but well equipped.
Thanks for the tea, coffee, chocolates and cupcake from The Carrytown Bakery Kirsten.
The house was convenient to airport where I attended a workshop. The neighbor hood is being refurbished so there are older homes near 100 yoa and new similar style homes going up too.
not a ton of natural light
Kirsten was a fantastic host! It was a pleasure staying with her. We ran the Richmond half marathon and Kirsten was running it too. She had a breakfast set up for us that morning, which took so much stress out of race day morning. Her dinner restaurant selection was excellent and her house was clean and charming! Would absolutely recommend staying with Kirsten.
I have stayed with Kirsten many times now on my overnight trips to Richmond for work. Each time I feel so at home. Kirsten is a very clear communicator and the perfect balance between warm and inviting and giving me the space I need after an intense work day. I highly recommend Kirsten's cozy Yellow Room on the Hill.
My husband and I were guests on Kirsten for a month. She was very patient with us who spoke little English , gave us lots of tips on what to see in the city , the surrounding area and beaches along the coast and she also lent to us by the chairs and an umbrella. One day she came home with a table and chairs just purchased and she held a barbecue in the garden; so we met her boyfriend John . Her house is very nice, tidy and spacious , in true american style; the kitchen has all the utensils you could imagine. The yellow room is comfortable, fast wi-fi . My husband became fond of her cats S & B. They are old and need of bit attention and patience. The neighborhood is quiet , very nice. In just a few minutes walk you can drink a beer, buy food , or eating something.
Our dream was to live in contact with american culture and thanks to Kirsten. and her beautiful home , Richmond and all of Virginia was granted.
Thanks Kirsten, S & B

Kirsten is a wonderful host and the Yellow Room on the Hill is perfectly located if you need to be near downtown Richmond while still having a quieter residential experience. Walking distance to various restaurants in Church Hill and Union Hill is a wonderful plus! Kirsten was accessible if needed, while also feeling like I had my own space and ability to come and go easily. Thanks for providing a great place to stay!
