About this listing
Comfy private room and shared bath in my home on a quiet street in Church Hill. Easy walking distance to several good restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, and a little market/bar. Convenient to downtown business district and I-95. Must like cats!
The yellow guest room is furnished with a full-size bed, nightstands with reading lamps, and a secretary desk/dresser. It is small but cozy, and the bed is very comfortable.
Fresh towels and bed linens are provided when you arrive. Unlike a hotel, I do NOT provide housekeeping services in your room during your stay. You can make your bed, or not, as you choose. Guests may use the laundry facilities as needed. Amenities include washer/dryer and wireless internet.
I do not "officially" provide breakfast, but you are always welcome to help yourself to coffee and tea, milk and sugar. And I usually put out things like cereals, fruit, and yogurt that you can have for a light breakfast. You can also use some fridge space to store food and drinks of your own.
Bathrooms, kitchen, living and dining areas are shared with me and my cat. My boyfriend and his friendly dog are also often around.
I may occasionally host additional guests in my second guest room (which usually serves as the upstairs den), in which case these amenities are also shared with them.
You are also welcome to hang out on the front porch, or in the back yard where I have a table and 4 chairs for al fresco dining.
Interaction with Guests
I keep a pretty busy schedule, so if you're looking for a hostess who is always on-site, this may not be the house for you. That said, you can always call or text if you need something, and I'm always happy to give suggestions on restaurants, places to go and things to do in the area.
During the week I am usually around in the mornings and evenings, but sometimes I opt to stay at my boyfriend's place. I travel a lot on weekends so if you're booking a weekend, you may or may not see me.
I can not necessarily be at the house to meet you, but I can always arrange to leave a key so that you can arrive at a time that is convenient for you.
My home is a 3 bedroom/1.5 bathroom detached row house on a quiet street in Church Hill. The house is situated within a few blocks of several good restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, and a little market/bar. There are also a few parks with nice views of the river and the city. Additional destinations in Church Hill, Shockoe Bottom/Shockoe Slip, and the downtown business district are also easily accessible. I love my neighborhood, and hope you will too!
There is plenty to do within a short walk or bike ride. If you want to use public transit, there's a bus stop for route 45 on the corner, and stops for several other routes nearby (look up the GRTC website for route info). There is also plenty of on-street parking if you travel by car.
Other Things to Note
If you are interested in booking, please send me an inquiry message BEFORE submitting a reservation. We hosts get demoted in the search results if we don't respond to a reservation request within 24 hours, but sometimes I'm out of range of wireless and can't always respond that quickly.
I have a geriatric cat, and I can not permit any other pets, no matter how friendly and well-trained. My cat roams the house but he is not allowed in the yellow room, out of consideration for guests that may have allergies.
I have a security system, and ask that guests set it when they leave the house if I am not there. It is also set at night once everyone is in for the night. You will find details in the house manual.
This is a smoke-free household.
Otherwise, basic decency and respect for my personal space and belongings are all I expect.
Kirstin's home was a great starting point to explore Richmond. The room is exactly as pictured and comfortable. Downtown Richmond is a 15 minute walk away, and there are many things to see and do in the Church Hill area. While I didn't get to meet Kirsten during my stay, communication was very easy. I would recommend staying with Kirsten and would also recommend visiting Richmond.
The house/room/host was accurately described. I arrived from Seattle and Union Market is a perfect spot for a short walk to stretch the legs, a sandwhich & salad, and a beer or two. She made very easy for me to get into the house as I arrived before she got home. As she says, she is busy and not around all the time but we did get to chit chat for 5 minutes or so in the morning & evening. The bed/room is great for sleeping, very quiet. The house is very clean. I was able to park very close to the house both nights I was there.
I would stay here again.
Kirsten was an excellent host. The place was nice, she made it easy to get in. She also gave me a good recommendation for food.
Kirsten wad helpful when I needed her and was as busy as I was, so we really saw very little of each other. She gave me a mini concert while preparing for a gig at the Irish Festival
A sweet vintage home. Good bed, clean bathroom and I did use kitchen a few times. It was a bit difficult for me to navigate with my crutches but well equipped.
Thanks for the tea, coffee, chocolates and cupcake from The Carrytown Bakery Kirsten.
The house was convenient to airport where I attended a workshop. The neighbor hood is being refurbished so there are older homes near 100 yoa and new similar style homes going up too.
not a ton of natural light
Kirsten was a fantastic host! It was a pleasure staying with her. We ran the Richmond half marathon and Kirsten was running it too. She had a breakfast set up for us that morning, which took so much stress out of race day morning. Her dinner restaurant selection was excellent and her house was clean and charming! Would absolutely recommend staying with Kirsten.
I have stayed with Kirsten many times now on my overnight trips to Richmond for work. Each time I feel so at home. Kirsten is a very clear communicator and the perfect balance between warm and inviting and giving me the space I need after an intense work day. I highly recommend Kirsten's cozy Yellow Room on the Hill.
