The Space

Welcome to Springfield! Stay in comfort and peace in a wonderful historic neighborhood two blocks from the 800 acre Forest Park.

I live in the historical Forest Park Heights part of Springfield, Massachusetts and am active in the historical events of this district, including architecture walks, museum tours and walks through Olmstead's Forest Park a few blocks away. Sharing my home with others has been such fun. Now expanding that fun with travelers visiting Springfield and the Pioneer Valley has totally enriched our lives. I enjoy the great cultural exchange of hosting people from all parts of the world and in the process making new friends.

I am a creative type. I make quilts and build Arts & Crafts furniture and have given classes in soap making and quilting. I also dabble in printmaking and painting. Many of my works adorn my home. I enjoy people and whether you want privacy or society, we make sure everyone is comfortable and get the most out of their stay in Springfield. I have lived here for 20 years and know my way around Connecticut and Massachusetts, and will gladly help guide your visit in the most efficient way.

I can accommodate up to 4 people, two in each room.

3 Blocks from highway 91. Easy drive to area colleges (Springfield College, Western New England, AIC and Westfield State are closeby), Northampton, Hartford and the Berkshires.

  • Our visit was a total delight. The entire house is charming, with so many colorful details in architecture and decor. Our cozy and sunny room had a very comfortable bed, and I loved the artwork on the walls. Patrick is extremely welcoming and made us feel at home. My husband and I have put this on our wish list and hope to return for a longer visit just to relax.

  • We rented both rooms for our stay in Springfield to attend our daughter’s graduation. Patrick was a wonderful host and made a feel very welcome. The house is lovely and we enjoyed learning about its history. We hope to visit again soon.

  • Another great stay with Patrick! Was very helpful with the area again and flexible about our arrival and departure. He also made us some delicious eggs and sausage!

  • Our stay at Patrick's was like staying with friends! The location was perfect for us; as we were attending memorial services in Springfield for a dear friend. Patrick helped orient us as to a wonderful place to walk and enjoy the solitude that we needed. We would recommend his home to any of our friends without hesitation or reservations.

  • We cannot say enough nice things about Patrick and his home.

The bedroom and bathroom were impeccably clean (please be advised that they are not connected). The sheets, towels, toilet, sink, bath tub/shower, and floors were all freshly cleaned. There (email hidden) of hand-crafted soap in both the shower and on top of the sink. Patrick also made his living room (adorned with art work, gorgeous furniture, and plants) available to guests, even offering to turn on music while we relaxed Saturday morning with a newspaper and coffee.

As a host, Patrick was attentive and friendly. Patrick was well-informed and helpful when it came to picking out hiking sites, restaurants and bars to check out while we were in the area. He also made breakfast and coffee available to us when we were ready for it. He was gracious, and welcomed us to cook and eat in his spacious Tuscany-inspired kitchen.

We would highly recommend Patrick's house to anyone looking to stay in the Springfield area.

  • We were in Springfield for an annual equine event. Every eyar we end up staying in crowded, grubby hotels and have a lousy time. This time, I was lucky enough to find Patrick and his amazing, immaculate and graceful home, set in a stunning historic district. I could go on and on about the historic home, but even more wonderful was Patrick: the perfect host. He was thoughtful, helpful, kind, interesting, well educated about the area and the history and just downright wonderful. The bedrooms were beautiful, the beds comfy, the food wonderful, the area quiet and safe. We felt we wanted to take Patrick home with us, too. We were only about eight minutes from the Big E where our event was, and the directions were easy. Patrick also found us a nice dinner place where we had a great meal. I always look forward to this trip each year with my friends but always hate the places we stay and this year, we all wanted to just stay at Patrick's house and sit and relax. It felt like a real vacation in a stunning stay. Just can't say enough good things about this stay and this host.

  • My daughter and I stayed at Patrick's house while attending an event in Springfield. What a beautiful home! Patrick was a wonderful, very attentive host. He really went the extra mile to help us with our dinner reservation. I highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast and am looking forward to staying here again.

  • Patrick has a beautiful house and is a a very kind host. The room I had in his house for 5 nights was clean, large and comfortable. The bathroom was to share with another guest (what was no problem at all), clean, spacious. Fresh towels were provided.
    The neighborhood is quiet.
Patrick is a very friendly and helpful person, who gave me lots of information about the Springfield area and made many helpful suggestions for activities.
    Thank you, Patrick!

  • We stayed with Patrick for 5 days and enjoyed it a lot. My wife has swome dietary restrictions and Patrick was very accommodating even to the point of letting us use his kitchen to cook our dinners and make our own breakfasts.

Patrick followed us to a car rental for the car return and then took us to the train station in the morning.

A minor point to consider is that there is not a single TV in the house. After travelling from the west coast we were jet lagged and when we woke up in the middle of the night there was nothing to watch.

We had no problem with the shared bathroom.

    Highly recommended

  • Patrick made us feel welcome, long before we arrived! We found his house very comfortable and both bedrooms (there were 3 of us) were spacious, clean and attractive. Patrick's breakfast was also a special treat. It was sad that we were only spending one night in Springfield as the hospitality we were offered made us wish we were staying longer....
    .... 3 very happy Aussies!

About
I grew up in Indiana but settled in New England after college. I love the history in New England and enjoying exploring historic sites. I am an avid cook and also enjoy sewing, woodworking, soap making, and gardening. I live in an Arts & Crafts style home and enjoy the Stickley/Arts& Crafts aesthetic. I have traveled in many countries but my favorites are Spain and Italy. I also really enjoyed my trip to Peru. Travel in the US is great...have spent a lot of time in the western national parks and recently had a marvelous week in Venice Beach, CA. I enjoy camping here in western Massachusetts and traveling to NYC and Boston as often as I can. I would say I am a host who responds well to the needs of my guest. If you feel like hanging out with a glass of wine or cup of tea and chatting about life, that's great. Or if you prefer to have the house more to yourself with a lot of quiet time, I'm happy to accommodate. I am very relaxed and enjoy sharing my knowledge of hidden gems in western MA, destinations, hikes, restaurants, museums, etc. I can honestly say that I consider every guest who has ever stayed with me a friend.
