Welcome to my spacious two story, three bedroom apartment in a newly renovated monument building minutes away from the heart of Amsterdam! It is walking distance to Artis Zoo (12 mins) and Botanical gardens (7 mins), beautiful Oosterpark, and the Dappermarkt, one of the busiest outdoor markets in the city.

The tram stops practically in front of our building, and Weesperplein metro station is a 5-7 minute walk. From there it is a quick ride to Amstel or Central stations, the airport, or anywhere in the center of the city.

The apartment is quite large by Amsterdam standards (140 m2) and stylish but cosy. Radiator heat means that you can adjust the temperature in each room as you choose.

On the top (4th) floor there are three bedrooms- One quite large with a flat screen TV and DVD player, and one smaller, both with double beds. Both of these rooms have a dedicated closet and drawers for your use. A third bedroom can hold an air bed or child's crib, which can be provided (we have that, and a high chair for my niece's visits)! These rooms are on the top floor of the building, so no footsteps will wake you in the morning!

There is a luxurious bathroom with a claw-footed bathtub, large separate shower, and double sinks and toilet. Towels, linens and hairdryer are provided, of course, and if you forget something, or just want to lighten your luggage, please feel free to help yourself to the "hospitality bin" filled with toiletries- shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, mouthwash, shower caps, slippers, even disposable razors and toothbrushes. Best of all- enjoy a deliciously warm towel from the radiator/heated towel rack!

A utility room holds the washer and dryer, iron and ironing board. Detergent is available for your (email hidden) extra light in the hall upstairs. There are video door phone systems in the hallway on each floor. These allow you to see who rings the doorbell, to speak to them and to buzz them in from the comfort of the apartment.

On the 3rd floor are the kitchen, dining room, living room with corner nook, perfect for breakfasting in the front, and a balcony with garden furniture in the back. All rooms are open to each other, in typical Dutch style, with pocket doors renovated to monument standards between the dining and living areas.

Save money or experiment with local dishes in our fully equipped kitchen. Start your mornings with an espresso, cappuccino or latte from the Nespresso machine and milk frother. We've got stores of coffee, tea, spices and condiments. There is a supermarket less than five minutes away on our street. Please feel free to use and replace any staples from the panty (pasta, sauce, etc) if you're hungry at inconvenient store hours! (The nearby supermarket has a large selection of tasty meals ready to pop into the microwave if you want to eat quickly or sample Dutch specialties with no fuss!)

The living room has a large sofa and a flatscreen TV with DVD player. There is a large selection of DVDS, including many Dutch films with English subtitles if you wish to view local movies. The corner nook has an expandable table and a bookshelf with various titles in Dutch and English, including MANY Amsterdam guide books, local interest, and novels with a Dutch theme. There is a wireless printer/scanner and the apartment has wifi for your use. We've usually got a nice selection of recent magazines that you are welcome to peruse during your stay.

The dining room has a table that seats six comfortably and a cabinet with various games in English, Dutch, and French.

I have compiled a packet with tourist and transport information and a guide to my own personal favorites in the city. There is a famous cinema, Kriterion, a 4 minute walk away, and there are several bars and restaurants in the area. There is bike rental nearby. On our street within a five minute walk is a supermarket, dry cleaners, liquor store and bookstore.

*Like virtually all Amsterdam apartments, features quite steep steps, so you must be suitably mobile. The first time I saw them I was taken aback, but by the second day I was bounding up them! It's a great way to work off all of the delicious treats you'll be indulging in during your stay- that's how I look at it!

**Also like all historic Amsterdam apartments, this is an old, old building, and noise travels easily between floors. This is not a hotel, but a space where real people with real jobs and families live, and out of respect for them, there can be no loud noises, especially at night. There can be zero tolerance for disturbing the neighbors. If you want to stay up late watching loud tv, listening to music, drinking or partying, you are probably fantastic, fun people and I am sorry that I will not meet you, but I regret to say that THIS IS NOT THE APARTMENT FOR YOU!

We, or a friend of ours, will always be available for any questions or problems, no matter how small. If you have special needs or requests, we'd love to hear them. We think you'll love our Amsterdam city flat, and we look forward to welcoming you into our home!

  • We rented the apartment for my husbands parents, sister and uncle and aunt who were visiting from the USA and they very much enjoyed their stay.
They were -in their own words- 'very impressed' with the home and especially appreciated it's recent renovation, the light, the lay out and spaciousness (bedrooms upstairs and large living room and kitchen downstairs) and that the apartment still kept it's characteristics (such as the ceiling ornaments).
They also found the apartment's location extremely convenient: the tram across the street, the metro on only 4 min walking distance and further the supermarket next door made it very easy and efficient for them to explore the city and get everything they needed. Although located in the centre, they appreciated the apartment was located in a quieter section (although with enough neighborhood restaurants and cafe's) as well as that the apartment itself was quiet (no street noises) and residential.
Last but certainly not least, Amy proved to be a truly great host: she was very quick in responding to inquiries from the very first time we contacted her, the home was clean upon arrival, there was enough bed linens, towels, etc, and she even left some food and drinks for our family upon arrival.
The apartment itself and Amy's care have undoubtedly made a significant contribution to the pleasant stay of my in laws in Amsterdam. This is Airbnb at its best, 5 stars +. I would recommend this apartment to anyone who appreciates all the above!

  • We came in Amsterdam to celebrate New Year's Eve. We found very easily the apartment, it's located in a big street were we can park the car. We didn't take the tramway because it's difficult to understand lines but the metro is not very far from the flat, about 5 minutes walk. Because car parks in town are very expensive we parked the car in Olympish Stadium P+R for 8€ for 24h and metro tickets.
This flat is very spacious, there is enough rooms for 6 persons with a very large bed in one of the rooms and beds for 2 persons in the others rooms. There was enough pillows and sheets for all of us. The bathroom is spacious too with all we needed, even shower gel and shampoo! There was enough towels too, even hairdryer and straightener.
The kitchen is very practise to cook with an oven and all you need, we were abble to make a huge meal.
The decoration is very beautiful and meticulous and we were amazed at each room! Kitchen and living room are dowstairs and rooms ant bathroom are upstairs so people who want to sleep early are not disturbed.
There is a balcony which is very practise for smokers.
Town center is about 15 minutes by walking, we didn't take the metro to go to the town.

  • The flat is just gorgeous and really really worth it.
Spatious, comfortable, more than fully furnished (you could show up with just a tootbrush !).
Within walking distance to the most central places in AMS.

Welcome! I'm Amy, an American living in the Netherlands. I'm interested in dance, theatre, languages and literature. When I'm home long enough I love to explore my city, cook, and try new eateries. Whether it's backpacking or five star hotels, I've done it, and I hope that my love of travel and meeting new people makes me a successful host and a considerate guest. I know everything that makes my stays happier and easier, and I hope to provide a great experience for my guests! Marty is Dutch and we both travel frequently for business and pleasure, so we're never in one place for very long, and for now, we love it that way! I'm looking forward to helping people explore the wonderful city of Amsterdam from the comfort of our home!
