My place is just 2 blocks from Broad St. and 5 minutes from City Hall, Kimmel Center, Academy of Music; 10 minutes from South Street, Convention Center and 15 minutes from Reading Terminal/Chinatown or the Italian Market. This is a studio apartment on the 3rd floor of a six apartment building. There is a private bathroom, and a sectioned off kitchen and dining area. There are coin operated laundry facilities located in the basement.
The place is yours alone, entirely. I freshly launder all bedding (pillows included).
There is a queen sized bed and a blow up mattress available should you need one. My apartment is always clean (I never wear shoes inside) and is pet/pest free. I do have wi-fi available, and you're welcome to stay in and watch any one of my DVDs from my library-like collection. There is electric heat for winter stays, and 2 air conditioners for the summer.
There are several wonderful restaurants around the corner from me, along with theater venues like Wilma, Forrest and Merriam. Whole Foods on South St., is also 5 minutes away.
The neighborhood is near the "Gayborhood" as well as 2 blocks from SEPTA (Philly's public transportation). If you need to hail a cab, there are always several just outside my door as well.
I have a suggested minimum of 2 nights stay to protect weekends, however I am open to offers, so please feel free to inquire if you only need one day - even if it is a weekend. However, Monday-Thursday are always open should you only need a single day.
The streets are safe and generally clean.
No shoes inside the apartment, and no smoking are the only ones I can think of - along with your general common sense. I also ask that guests please turn off the AC when they leave during summer months, and lower the heat when they leave while staying as well.
The space is awesome and has a lot of character. It's cozy and in the middle of everything so it's easy to get around. David is very friendly and helpful. I have absolutely no complaints and had a great time.
His house is really cozy and unique. My girlfriend and I really loved it. He is also so kind that he told us a lot of nice places to go in Philly. We definitely enjoyed out trip in Philadelphia because of him and his house!
The apartment was in an ideal location, however it did not seem prepared to have guests staying in it. The bedding, floor, and bathroom were clean, however beyond that everything was covered in dust and there was even a blender that seemed to be full of mold. The trash can was also quite full with someone else's trash. There was no space for our things other than on the floor- every cabinet or drawer was full of piles of things and even the one chair which we could have put things on was covered with random things. The bed was an uncomfortable futon. Also, there were not enough lights for the apartment to be comfortably lit after dark. Overall it was cluttered, messy and dusty. It was way too expensive for the condition of the apartment. Based on other reviews maybe we were unlucky with the condition of the apartment, but then it should have been discounted from the start. We wish we had stayed elsewhere. David was nice though!
Great location, but...
Too bad the studio is not clean at all; from the bathroom to the kitchen and floors. It was difficult to remove our shoes to walk on dirty and soiled floors.
The "bed" is actually a futon with stained sheets. There is nothing wrong with sleeping in a futon; perhaps it should be described better. As for the sheets, they were probably clean but the stains made them look dirty.
The "45 second" wait to get hot water was more like a 4-5 minute wait (wasting cold water that you can't use because is too cold), and when you get it, time it, because you only get so many minutes of warm water.
As you can see by my other guests, there are no clean issues. My place was clean until Fortino and his boyfriend got here. It was they who stained the sheets and left condom wrappers. They were nice enough to apologize but I guess they felt it was better to leave a bad review to cover their tracks? Who knows, see my review.
Also, I tried to explain to them the shower, but they didn't listen. I get 15min of hot water everytime I shower. Then again, they were late and then had to leave to move their car from a tow zone. Not to too bright Fortino and his boyfriend, but appear to be nice at least.
David's apartment was perfect for our stay in Philadelphia. It is a spacious studio with a full kitchen, comfortable bed, and excellent natural light. The location is superb. The apartment is in one of the best neighborhoods in Philadelphia near outstanding restaurants and bars. Finally, David was extremely accommodating and responded quickly to all of my inquiries about the apartment, parking (which was not difficult to find), and amenities. I highly recommend David's apartment for its location, comfortability, and the gracious welcome.
David was a very nice host. He was very welcoming and offered suggestions for places to eat and visit while staying in Philadelphia. The neighborhood is safe and has a wide range of places for dinner and drinks. If I come back to Philadelphia, I'd be happy to stay here again.
David kept in touch with me by email and or txt, My phone missed his calls. the apt was as advertised. What a great collection of dvd movies and books. I almost wish it was part of a lending library. and what is the story of how they are all organized?
What kind of stairs are they, you go up a flight to a landing and then there is a short flight of stairs to each of the two apts on the floor. What are they called?
I'm originally from Chicago, but I've lived on the East Coast for the past 10 years.
I went to art school to study film, and currently working on my first book. I work various part time jobs to make ends meet.
When I'm not working, I love to explore Philly. There are so many wonderful things to do in this city.
