Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
A bright, serene space with reclaimed fixtures and hidden nooks throughout, the barn is surrounded by a wildlife-filled meadow. We are easy drives to quaint towns, hikes and art in all directions. Please read the entire description & rules before booking. Our base rate is for 2. We look forward to hearing from you :-).

The space
Full of light and divisions created by old window sashes, the space holds an open feeling while still harboring hidden nooks for curling up with a good book. The big windows face an upward sloping meadow, a veritable bird sanctuary much of the year. The interior is serene with a cozy fireplace for winter. The space encourages both reflection and community.

Note on number of guests: We state 5 as a maximum. This has worked well for families, larger tight knit groups of friends have made it work as well. Less tight knit groups should study the space carefully and understand the barn has only two bedrooms, and the upper bedroom interacts somewhat freely with the upstairs space. We encourage those seeking to accommodate more to see if the farmhouse suite is available (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/2822915). Feel free to ask us more questions about the space!

SAME DAY BOOKINGS: Please contact us first to make sure we can have the space available on time (probably it would be!)

WEEKENDS: If booking on a weekend, please book both Friday and Saturday - thanks!

We charge 10$/night/per dog - welcoming dogs who are well-behaved and taken care of. Please let us know in advance – if booking with dog(s) – that they are well behaved, a short description, and please also note additional requirements for dogs in the house rules. Thank you!

Guest access
The barn is a private space with two entrances, the main one being the sliding doors on the deck facing the meadow.

Other things to note
**Covid-19: Cleaning the barn, we are currently using alcohol or medical grade disinfectants, basically going overboard as much as possible.
• A game room (ping pong, pinball, mini-basketball and more) in the lower level of the barn will be open shortly!
• We encourage cooking steaks, hamburgers, meats, anything you think might be smoky to be cooked outdoors on the grill. (Smoke detectors in the barn and house often go off with smoky cooking ...we need a hood!) We do not stock charcoal.
• Our home and one neighbor is visible to the south and west of the barn (please see photos); in winter parts of the homes of two other neighbors are visible in the distance.
• We ready the queen beds in each bedroom. The queen sized daybed and queen sized fold-out couch in main room are left unmade but with sheets and bedding provided, which need to be put on for night-time use if you plan to use them.
• We are officially in the town of Gallatin, though we need to put down Red Hook as that is our mailing address. We are 14 minutes to the village of Red Hook and 7 minutes to Pine Plains.
• Cycling here is glorious. To check out a few routes we made with photos, go online to ride with gps and search routes around Gallatin, NY. We have two new hybrid bikes we rent out through spinlister (so liability forms can get signed). We can reduce rates for our guests.
• If the power goes out, the hot water heater will need to be turned back on. it is located behind the curtain at the bottom of the stairs. the on/off button is on the front lower right hand corner.
• If needed, additional soap and toiletries can be found in the downstairs utility room closet.
• We are in the country and by a meadow. Sensitivity (allergies and asthma) to pollen or bees should be taken into consideration. Let us know of any bee nests that are bothersome and we will remove. Tick checks are encouraged as well!
• The water is here is of excellent quality. We encourage drinking it! (No need to buy bottled water!)

A couple and our children, we are grateful to live in this beautiful, dramatic, yet pastoral area. We cobble together and juggle jobs and passions to make a pretty decent life. Definitely, we are into art, and an eclectic range of music and food.

During your stay
We greet our guests and give them a quick tour. After that we may or may not see you again, but are always available by phone for questions/needs.

A portion of the downstairs barn is only accessible to the owner for an indoor wood gassifying boiler (a heat source for our home and the barn). You may hear us (but probably not) as we load it 1-2x/day in Winter). With solar panels on the roof, the barn is heated and powered almost entirely with renewable resources.
