About this listing
Lovely room facing out to the ocean. Let the surf lull you to sleep. Come upstairs to enjoy the rest of the home including hottub overlooking the ocean, gourmet kitchen, piano, fireplace, quiet conversation areas and decks.
Rent a room in The Sea Sanctuary, a beautiful home which has everything you could desire in a place for a relaxing getaway - fireplace, hottub facing the ocean, 180 degree ocean views, great kitchen, piano, and miles upon miles of beaches to stroll just outside the home. A seal colony lives just 1/3 mile to the south and migrating whales can be seen from the home during the winter and early spring. The home normally rents out for over $600/night for groups wishing exclusive access to the entire home.
This listing is for one of the two rooms downstairs available for rent, a formal bedroom which has a nice queen size bed and a view facing the ocean. The other room for rent, a lovely Japanese-style room with sliding shoji screen doors and traditional tatami mats on the floor and a queen size mattress can be seen in a 2nd listing here (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/888933). There is a full bathroom available for use downstairs which will be shared if the other room is occupied. Please note that, although I insulated the wall between the bathroom and this bedroom when building the home, sound from the shower can sometimes be heard in this room when other guests are using that bathroom.
If you rent both available rooms, you would also have sole access to large open yoga/exercise area with 2 additional futons for sleeping and the full bathroom mentioned above. Groups larger than 4 pay an additional $25/night per person. If you are a group of 1 or 2 and would like sole use of the downstairs area, I would rent that to you for $30 less than the total rate for the two rooms.
Please note that I also shy away from renting to guests with smaller children since I want to be able to ensure a tranquil retreat for all guests.
You are of course welcome to share the common living areas upstairs including kitchen, living room, hot tub, decks, etc.
As your host, I'll definitely respect your desire for privacy, or perhaps we can spend time conversing or sharing a meal if that seems to be what the mood presents.
If you are into cooking, the kitchen is fully stocked for your use including Vitamix, KitchenAId Mixer, oven, mircowave, etc.
I do rent the entire house under a separate listing here if that is of interest to you. (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/944149)
Nothing outside of the master suite in the home is off limits, please enjoy as if you were visiting old friends.
Interaction with Guests
I do my best to let the guests set the tone for interaction. I try to leave plenty of space for privacy and I naturally try to honor that, but wonderful conversations often arise over tea or at other times.
It's very quiet and right in front of the home is one of the most beautiful and rarely traveled beaches I've ever come across. You can walk 4 miles to the north on the beach or a mile on the beach directly south into MacKerricher State Park.
Car is definitely necessary, although there is a lovely paved trail parallel to the ocean which can take you all the way into Fort Bragg if you like, so feel free to bring your bikes too.
Other Things to Note
If you would like a vegan meal ready for your arrival or would like muesli in the morning, let me know and I can let you know of availability and pricing. The hot tub is clothing optional and I'll always respect your privacy when you are using the tub.
Shoes off in the home please. Normal check in 4pm, check out 11am. Please ask if you would like something other than this and I may be able to accommodate.
I have many interests including photography, travel, writing, playing piano and guitar, singing, performing music, yoga, poetry, meditation, website development, ultimate frisbee, tennis, fermenting foods, eating healthy woodworking and probably a few more things thrown in.
I've been lucky enough to see a lot of different places in the world over the past several years. India and Nepal are my favorites, but also spent quite a bit of time in Eastern Europe (notably Ukraine) and the rest of Europe too. My father lives in Thailand so I get over there occasionally as well.
I consider myself pretty easy to get along with and enjoy meeting new people and having new experiences. As a host, I'm happy to converse but I also do my best to stay attuned to my guests and offer them as quiet and tranquil a getaway as they may want.
