About this listing
The Historic Nobleman's Loft & Terraces
Welcome to One of Rome's Ultimate Homesteads
Centuries ago, a Roman Nobleman commissioned the building with majestically high wooden rafter ceilings and steps from his personal apartment on the second floor - known as the piano nobile - leading down to the horse stables below (now the wine cellar). The original wooden beams and arches are still there today and the place has a theatrical feel to it - it begs you to invite friends over to share in the feeling of history.
Selected by the airbnb staff who stayed and filmed here for the airbnb hosting in Rome video.
A very large ancient apartment with 4 Bedrooms each with its own bathroom and with 3 eat-out terraces
The two upstairs bedrooms have double beds which CANNOT be separated into two singles. There is a long narrow room downstairs with two beds and a bathroom. It is ideal for two children or one adult. Not for two adults and no good at all for a couple - beds are not side by side. The fourth bedroom is located adjacent to the main apartment, giving a little bit of space from the main living area.
There's also a double sofa-bed in the living room, and cots can be provided to make the total number of beds available 12.

We try hard to please. Please see the reviews.
The real difference between this and a hotel is 1) HEAPS more space 2) A REAL kitchen - approved by a top NY chef that visited recently 3) This has been the real home of a Roman for centuries 4) You are the ONLY valued guests - we treat you as such!
The owner Martin will answer your questions before and during your stay. I mean REALLY assist you. If you want blow by blow help as you plan and enjoy Rome, we can be there for you. If you want complete privacy and no communication as you get away form email etc for a while that's great too. See the reviews....
BOOKED UP? Never fear! I have a rival Roman Jewel that is probably free: http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/230555
Why do I say it's Historic? Well the building probably dates from the 1600s but it was built on top of ruins from far before. Last week, we scratched into the terrace wall and found a Roman Arch buried inside! I posted pics (email hidden)w it is not every day that you have to call in the archeologists when you are making a coffee corner on your terrace! No Wonder Rome's subway has taken decades for a few miles... Please have a look at the pics!
If you are going to Barcelona next, I have a heap of friends with great places so I can refer you if you'd like an insider's opinion.
This is one of the top places to stay in Rome for families or mature groups of friends. We don't accept college student groups.
We are in a quiet cobblestone backstreet not far from the best bakery in Rome a short walk from everything.
You'll have access to the entire floor of the medieval building - complete with Roman aqueduct on the terrace! There are steps leading down to the old stables but that is now just my mini-cellar....
4 bedrooms, 2 downstairs two upstairs. 3 balconies. All in a super fun but quiet corner.
Interaction with Guests
We are hyper present for our guests. We substitute for ours of (website hidden) and provide you connections to the best contacts that we've put together over the years. We're there if you have a problem and are never intruding - we are mostly helping you by email yet live nearby if you need us.
Please don't wear shoes in the house as the Cotto floors are very ancient and very fragile.
Please WATER the plants as they will die of thirst without your help Thanks!!
No smoking indoors.
I have put extra adapters and extensions for your convenience, please leave these for future guests to enjoy
When leaving please leave the dirty towels and sheets on the bed. Please leave the keys on the table.
From Dec 8 - 20, 2015 the minimum stay is 4 nights.
Martin and Elizabeth were amazingly hosts from start to finish. The loft was in a fun and lively location, yet the loft was extremely quiet inside. We were in Rome when it was super hot and the air conditioning was great! The kitchen was fantastic with a washer and dryer and there are 4 baths so everyone can shower when they need. It was a perfect stay for my extended family of eight (4 adults and 4 teens). Wireless and entertainment systems worked flawlessly. And an easy walk to heart of Rome each day (with a great bakery near by). Very secure, spacious and easy.
Martin and Elizabeth run this listing very professionally. A complete and much appreciated 45 page welcome packet is sent via email. So many accurate and useful recommendations. Many pre-arrival emails to make your Rome experience 5 star. Tours, airport transportation, food stocked, cooking classes, yoga - you name it, they have thought of it. LOVED the neighborhood. Our best restaurants were just outside our door and we ate dinner most nights in Trastevere. If you have ever wanted an authentic Rome historical living experience, this is it. If you are young and want nightlife, this is it. Neighborhood is thriving late into the night, but loft nice and quiet to sleep. We were 2 couples (2 teens) more than enough space. A lot of siesta / cocktail time spent on beautiful terrace with wine. Resting, relaxing after hours of walking/touring. A/C, washer/dryer, showers all worked great and easy to understand. We didn't cook so I cannot comment on kitchen.
Thanks Kerry. We do our best to make this the top place to stay in Rome. Our job is aided tremendously by the location and character of this ancient loft. Having so many thoughtful and appreciative guests such as you make the hard work very worthwhile.
Apart from CasaPicard, I run Vreasy - a startup company that helps hosts become super hosts. That is why I make it my business to be the best host you'll every have. Even though I give most of the credit for you experience at the loft to my sister, Elizabeth - your local insider in Roma.
A presto a Roma everyone.
Martin and his team were spectacular hosts. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. They made us dinner reservations and offered any help we could think of. They were incredibly prepared for everything and very responsive in our communication. The neighborhood is also absolutely fabulous. Lots of fun restaurants and a great place to explore away from all the main tourist attractions (but still close enough to get to them if you want to).
I only wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend.
Thanks Caroline! My sister and I believe that it's not enough to offer a place to stay. You have to be there just as any concierge of a top hotel would be. Never in the way or too present, but absolutely available when needed.
We try to offer much more than a place to stay and as an engineer, I've started an entire company making this easy for other hosts and property managers. I run vreasy which is a way to be there for your guests. For anyone looking for a 100% hassle free stay - with easy access to everything Rome has to offer - I hope to show you ultimate hospitality .
A beautiful ,well-appointed home in the middle of Trestevere. We were met at both the airport and the apartment with smiling faces even though our flight was 2 hours late.
Thank you for a wonderful stay in Rome . Too short ,We will return .
We received many communications from the host and his support team prior to our arrival. They were willing to help with tours, drivers, stocking apartment, etc. Someone greeted us, helped with luggage, and had a bottle of wine for us. Location is the strongest feature of this apartment. Second on the list is the terrace which is perfect for any meal or drinks. We loved gathering there each morning for breakfast. We really enjoyed the amazing La Renella Bakery that is right around the corner.
Look no further, book this wonderful villa right now! I stayed here for 5 days with my family. There were 6 of us and we all had the best time and were so comfortable. We enjoyed breakfast every morning out on the terrace which was lovely. This is a prime location, walking distance to the Vatican, great restaurants and shops, and super close to a taxi rank which was awesome. Elizabeth was great to work with. The airline lost our luggage and she was super helpful giving out her cell just incase they came while we were out and constantly checked in to make sure we had a great time. She also booked a ton of restaurant reservations for us which was so nice. I honestly have nothing bad to say about our experience here, it was the best airbnb I've ever stayed in! If I ever find myself back in Rome I would stay here in a heartbeat! I'm so glad we stayed here, it was the highlight of our trip and I will never forget it.
I stayed here with my girlfriend and a group of friends. The number of rooms, private baths in each room, and large open common space helped it be a very comfortable and special experience.
Martin and his team did a good job to make sure everything was prepared, provided information about enjoying the surrounding area, and were easy to contact for questions.

About the Host, Martin
I am a tech entrepreneur with a growing team of top developers helping me develop Vreasy - a novel software platform. Thus I rent out the places I bought with the proceeds from my last software company. The $ I make goes straight into salaries for my employees - engineers, web designers and contractors around the world. I also employ several people (hosts, cleaners, maintenance people) to keep everything running smoothly with the apartments. I like to think I contribute to the economy!
Managing these apartments made me discover that I really like seeing Rome through the eyes of my guests and really like the interaction with so many people from different places around the world. I'm joined by my Sister - a US-trained yoga instructor in Rome. She'll act as your Rome insider and advise you on everything there is to do and see. We're pretty organized as we have Vreasy to help us stay on track.
For those of you whose next stop in Europe is Barcelona - come and visit me! I hop inbetween Bcn and Rome. My office is by the beach in the old part of town. If you love flying join my "Barcelona Seaplane Flyers Club " a share-the-gas-expenses only flying club for which I am the pilot. Lets hop over to Menorca or to a mountain lake. A presto! & Nos vemos pronto!
