About this listing

My home is very communal. Students and interns who stay with me tend to become fast friends with each other. I organize weekly house events, such as Sunday brunches or game nights or a night out at the movies. I pride myself on being a "house mom". I'll give you tips on where to go in the city, make you tea when you are home sick, or take you on an adventure.

The space

You might see our home listed by Darren O. however this is actually my home (where I live) so I thought I would create my own listing as well. You can book through him or through me...but either way you'll be living with me.

This private house is set up to provide students and interns visiting San Francisco with a safe and comfortable place to stay that has a built in community of international travelers. Why come to San Francisco and stay in a place all by yourself? If you're friendly and social and would like to live in a fun house with students from all over the world, check us out.

You should know that living in a community is very different than living alone or with a family. We seek students that will be kind and respectful to other housemates and behave in a way that is not a burden to others in the house. Yes, this means washing your own dishes and cleaning off the counters. If you are a "dirty dish leaver" please, please look for another house.

Because this is a communal house you might need to be flexible and willingly adjust your personal routines and habits if it’s helpful to other occupants or for the overall good of the house. However, most housemates find that the social benefits of living together in a fun house far outweigh and inconvenience to personal space, privacy and routines. If you love hostels, let us know because then we know you understand how great community living can be.

Our two person rooms are shared with other housemates of the same gender, unless opposite gender roommates have agreed to share. Unlike a hostel, the rooms have a desk, drawers and a bit more space to spread out, decorate, and make your temporary home feel comfortable.

Housemates enjoy a free high speed internet Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen, private bathrooms and laundry facilities. There's also a community common lounge with comfy sofas, chairs and community desks. Many of us also usually chip in and enjoy one or more weekly community meals together.

We offer flexible and affordable monthly rates. This is month-to-month rental accommodation so a housemate request application and credit check may be required. New housemates pay for at least one month to start. But unlike other homes, that require a fixed term contract, here you always have the option of checking out early, if your plans change. Please contact us for more details on this.

We looking forward to meeting you.

Guest access

Each guest has access to all common areas of the house (kitchen, living room, roof top, laundry facilities, bathrooms). Everyone has a personal key to their bedrooms and may admit other housemates at their discretion.

Interaction with guests

I live in the house and am around most of the time to help out. Just holler if you need anything!
I provide cleaning to the main areas of the house (excluding guests dishes and rooms). I am also available to offer information about San Francisco to new comers of the city. I also schedule regular house events (Sunday dinners, hikes, ect).

Other things to note

We have a full kitchen, so no need to bring any utensils with you. We also have an iron and ironing board, towels, and soap and shampoo if needed.
We are located a short 10 minute walk away from Montgomery Street station, a good spot to get you pretty much anywhere in the city. We are within walking distance of several grocery stores, post office, parks, restaurants, and shopping. We are situated between Chinatown and the Financial District, two very safe, quiet neighborhoods.

This is my second time staying in Shelli's home stay. It's honestly the best place in SF to stay if you're a student or new young professional. Everyone in the house is respectful and fun to hang around. Shelli is the best host ever! The house is in the heart of downtown and you can literally walk to anything. Stay here, you won't regret it! BTW, all you fellow renters out there, whether you stay in this house or hem...WASH YOUR FREAKING DISHES. Be respectful of other housemates and just wash them as soon as you're done. Thank you :)

The stay surpassed what I originally thought it would be like. Shelli is good at judging who would make a nice fit in the house based on personalities so I met a group of really lovely people. The location was great for commuting to work and the noise levels wern't loud at all considering it's listed as a student house.

Shelli's student home is in a fantastic location within walking distance of several central locations in downtown SF, and living there was a great experience. I lived there due to its incredibly convenient distance relative to a coding bootcamp that I was enrolled in (it is also within walking distance of several other coding bootcamps -- many of my housemates were coders as well). Although I was hardly home because of this, when I was home, it was nice to coexist with really interesting and kind people. Shelli definitely tries to ensure that everyone feels part of the house, and plans house outings and dinners if you are able to make it. My room was spacious enough for the items I brought (I travel fairly lightly, however), and the communal spaces had more than enough room to chill in if you were home often. If you need to stay in SF for a few months and want to be within walking distance of several key areas (Chinatown, Financial District, North Beach, SoMA where I walked to school), I would absolutely recommend staying here.

My home stay at Shelli's was the best decision I could have made in regards to my housing for the summer. I was completing an internship in the financial district and walked to work every day. I loved being able to come home from work everyday and have a group of people to talk with on a variety of things. Shelli was great about making everyone feel welcome and planning fun activities for us to do as housemates if we were interested. If you are in SF for a month or two, I definitely recommend staying here!

I had the most amazing stay in San Francisco at Shelli's homestay. It's perfect for students coming to SF for a few months. The house is great and really well located. Living there is the best thing to meet people, discover the city and have fun. I absolutely recommend it !
