This is a stone cottage, recently refurbished to a high standard. It sleeps two in a comfortable king sized bed and the possibility of an extra bed in the living room. The cottage overlooks a lake in a remote corner of North West Donegal .
This is a traditional cottage which has just been totally refurbished. It is remotely situated in a rural area in the hills of north west Donegal and is the perfect place to come and get away from it all. It is very isolated! A good place for star gazing. The local town is 4 miles away and has a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. It is a great place to come and stay for those who love walking, fishing and wild swimming. For the walking enthusiasts there is a wide choice of winding roads, rolling hills and spectacular coastal walkways, plus there are endless places to go if you love angling, including the lake overlooked by the cottage about 100 metres away. Sea angling trips can also be arranged.
The cottage has one double bedroom and an extra guest can be accommodated on a futon in the living area. It has a comfortable bathroom with a shower, a well equipped kitchen/diner and a comfortable living area. The furniture is all new and modern. There is no TV and mobile and internet connections are variable. There is also a byre where you can store bicycles, golf clubs and sports equipment.
This is an 'eco-renovation' with a solar panel, a well and rain water harvesting. It is a lovely warm cottage with a wood or turf burning stove. Fuel is supplied.
Beautiful beaches are a short drive away where you can walk, swim, scuba dive, wind surf etc. (Contact us for arrangements) Boat trips to the islands can be arranged. We are close to Donegal airport (15 minutes, flights to Dublin and Glasgow), Derry, Dublin and Belfast airport are further away. You would need a car to stay here.
The area is renowned for its traditional music. Leo's tavern (Enya, Clannad, Moya Brennan) is a short drive and Hudie Beg's bar is also close.
If you send me a shopping list I can provide most of it with enough notice. I would always leave milk and a bottle of wine and some other bits. We live very close by and are available for help and support, but we would leave you alone apart from one courtesy visit. You would be welcome to come and use the phone in our house.
If you have any questions please send me a message and I will happily get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks.

Interaction with Guests
We usually call in once to see if everything is OK, otherwise you are left alone, but we are available!
Its very quiet and peaceful, yet not too far from a town where you can get most food stuffs, and other areas where there is beautiful live music.
No public transport, you need a car or at least a bicycle.
Other Things to Note
We are part of the Wild Atlantic Way
Obviously you will respect our property and the furniture, fixings and fittings. Our guests always leave the place beautifully clean and tidy which is much appreciated. We recycle all the waste and would ask you to cooperate with this (specially labelled bins are provided which we will empty) Obey the composting rules too - they are not too onerous!
The gate needs to be kept shut as there are wandering sheep who aim to eat all the wild flowers we have carefully planted.
Please no smoking in the house. One dog is welcome but must be kept on a lead when outside the gate.
Pat and Keith!
We loved your beautiful place a lot and we were really appreciated staying in your wonderful house. Thanks for everything!
We were made to feel incredibly welcome by the delightful Pat and Keith. Everything was exactly as described in the cosy and well-equipped cottage, and we received lots of helpful advice, and support from them. The surrounding countryside was glorious: rugged exciting walking, breathtaking views and huge white empty beaches, with unexpectedly warm sea.
Perfect quiet and relaxing location. Beautiful cottage finished to a high standard. Loved everything about it.
Spent three peaceful days in An Taobh Eile. Everything regarding the cottage was exactly as described by the host. Even a home baked bread was waiting for me! I am sure there will be a next time...
An Taobh Eile is a great place to get away from it all. It's a very comfortable, and tastefully decorated, cottage with everything you need to enjoy a stay in one of the most beautiful places in Ireland. There's a lovely fireplace to relax beside if the weather is not kind.
Great stay in An Taobh Eile well maintained and very Eco friendly, the cottage has wonderful views and is close to a lake with Brown trout and Salmon, had good time fishing there, licence is available from the town but is very reasonably priced. Pat and Kieth are very welcoming hosts thanks for the wheaten loaf and home made jam. All in all a very relaxing break unfortunately it wasn't long enough. Look forward to returning again in the future. Many thanks Phil & Dawn (June 2013)
My husband & I went to Ireland for our honeymoon, found this beautiful little cottage & nestled in for the week. Pat greeted us with a friendly smile & a homemade loaf of brown bread (still warm from the oven!) upon arrival.
The cottage had everything two people would need to really feel at home including a full kitchen, living room, spacious bathroom & cozy bedroom. There was so much to do in & around Dungloe as well. It was perfect to get outside or take a drive & then come back to the cottage to warm up, make a meal, read a book & get a good night's rest. Would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking to get away to a peaceful retreat in beautiful County Donegal.
