About this listing
This is a stone cottage, recently refurbished to a high standard. It sleeps two in a comfortable king sized bed and the possibility of an extra bed in the living room. The cottage overlooks a lake in a remote corner of North West Donegal .
This is a traditional cottage which has just been totally refurbished. It is remotely situated in a rural area in the hills of north west Donegal and is the perfect place to come and get away from it all. It is very isolated! A good place for star gazing. The local town is 4 miles away and has a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. It is a great place to come and stay for those who love walking, fishing and wild swimming. For the walking enthusiasts there is a wide choice of winding roads, rolling hills and spectacular coastal walkways, plus there are endless places to go if you love angling, including the lake overlooked by the cottage about 100 metres away. Sea angling trips can also be arranged.
The cottage has one double bedroom and an extra guest can be accommodated on a futon in the living area. It has a comfortable bathroom with a shower, a well equipped kitchen/diner and a comfortable living area. The furniture is all new and modern. There is no TV and mobile and internet connections are variable. There is also a byre where you can store bicycles, golf clubs and sports equipment.
This is an 'eco-renovation' with a solar panel, a well and rain water harvesting. It is a lovely warm cottage with a wood or turf burning stove. Fuel is supplied.
Beautiful beaches are a short drive away where you can walk, swim, scuba dive, wind surf etc. (Contact us for arrangements) Boat trips to the islands can be arranged. We are close to Donegal airport (15 minutes, flights to Dublin and Glasgow), Derry, Dublin and Belfast airport are further away. You would need a car to stay here.
The area is renowned for its traditional music. Leo's tavern (Enya, Clannad, Moya Brennan) is a short drive and Hudie Beg's bar is also close.
If you send me a shopping list I can provide most of it with enough notice. We live very close by and are available for help and support, but we would leave you alone apart from one courtesy visit. You would be welcome to come and use the phone in our house.
If you have any questions please send me a message and I will happily get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks.

Interaction with Guests
We usually call in once to see if everything is OK, otherwise you are left alone, but we are available!
Its very quiet and peaceful, yet not too far from a town where you can get most food stuffs, and other areas where there is beautiful live music.
No public transport, you need a car or at least a bicycle.
Other Things to Note
We are part of the Wild Atlantic Way
Obviously you will respect our property and the furniture, fixings and fittings. Our guests always leave the place beautifully clean and tidy which is much appreciated. We recycle all the waste and would ask you to cooperate with this (specially labelled bins are provided which we will empty) Obey the composting rules too - they are not too onerous!
The gate needs to be kept shut as there are wandering sheep who aim to eat all the wild flowers we have carefully planted.
Please no smoking in the house. One dog is welcome but must be kept on a lead when outside the gate.
The cottage is in a quiet and scenic location, ideal for walking or cycling. We followed a local cycling trail along a disused railway with beautiful views of mountain, sea and bog. The area has an abundance of walking trails in the mountains or along coastal paths/beaches.Pat and Keith have lovingly restored this cottage and managed to kit it out with every comfort. We have been visiting this part of Donegal for over 30 years and this is the best self catering accommodation we have found in all that time.
Everything about our stay at An Taobh Eile was marvelous, starting with Pat's extraordinary hospitality (fresh, still-warm loaf of homemade bread, a bottle of wine, and what must be the world's best marmalade!). And the cottage and views, original art and fabulous library...simply amazing. It rained two out of our three days and made not a bit of difference! This is a place for discovery and rest, quiet and beauty.
Having spent 4 nights in An Taobh Eile, we agree with all reviews posted. The house itself is really lovely and very well equipped. The site is very scenic and private. We are happy to have booked it and highly recommend it to others looking for a quiet escape.
We had a lovely time in this beautiful cottage. Pat was very welcoming. Description was accurate and the surrounding area very scenic. Particularly recommend Monday night Irish music at Hudi Beg's pub in Bunbeg.
The reservation was canceled 12 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Everything about our stay at Pat and Keith's place was perfect. Waking up in the morning and looking out our bedroom window felt like a dream. It was hard to believe we found such a perfect place to get away! Picture's don't do any justice. The cottage and the area surrounding it was so beautiful. We climbed mount Errigal which is really close by and the view from the summit was indescribable. Thank you for having us, we hope you'll let us come back again!
