The Space

One queen size Aero Bed air mattress and/or 1 twin size air mattress and bedding for one extra guest. Our location is within walking distance to everything Echo Park has to offer. This Home is available for short or long term stays. ALSO each stay includes some of these yummy choices for your self-serve breakfast- organic fresh eggs with a baguette or greek yogurt and granola with fresh fruit of your choice, or fresh baked bagels and cream cheese from the best local bagel maker. The Cottage is located in a unique area of Echo Park, on Echo Park Avenue. In this area, small shops are sparsely interspersed with residential buildings. This creates an interesting “walking corridor” between Chango’s Coffee House at one end and Fix Coffee House at the other end of Echo Park Avenue. For Yoga and Pilates enthusiasts you don’t have far to go. Yogala and Pilates and Art are just steps away. If you need a hair cut, the Echo Park Salon is also our neighbor. If you are a hiker, Elysian Park is a 10 minute walk from our front door. Elysian is the oldest and one of the largest parks in Los Angeles. Because this park was originally designed as an arboretum, Elysian's mature trees provide shade for many of the hilly trails that weave and wind throughout the park. This wonderful, tranquil green area in the heart of our community will provide the hiker with gorgeous and varied views of downtown Los Angeles and our local mountains from the tops of its many hills. Be sure to pack your hiking boots!

Do you want to go green and car-less on your trip? You can catch a bus to anywhere by walking about 125 feet from our door. Buses arrive approximately every 20 minutes. We are about 15-20 minutes by bus to Union station, where you can catch a ride on our many transportation options, as well as the “Fly Away” option to LAX. Convenient, no? If you are traveling by car, then we are at the crux of your entry into the LA highway system. We are surrounded by the Santa Ana (5), Hollywood/Ventura (101,) Harbor/Pasadena (110), and Glendale (2) Freeways which will get you to your destination if you choose your timing wisely to avoid gridlock!
Hey, speaking of Green, we compost, recycle and save our rainwater for the plants, not the street gutter. Yay! I hope to be getting our garden going soon so you will have fresh veggies in the spring.

The Garden Cottage is an intimate, cozy, well appointed space. The kitchen has a five burner commercial style stainless steel range, hood and dishwasher. There is
a cd/radio/ipod system for your use while you are working in the kitchen. In the complement of chef's tools there is a Waring Pro waffle maker, a pancake griddle, a Cuisinart blender, and a Champion Juicer. The most recent addition is a new set of stainless steel pans. For Java fiends, I have provided a "pour over" funnel and filter coffee set up and also a French Press and a coffee bean grinder along with locally roasted beans for that fresh brew, first thing in the morning. If you want someone else to brew your coffee, I encourage you to take a short walk up or down the Avenue, and have a taste of some of the best local roaster coffee available anywhere! .
A small dining area that is suitable for two, is tucked into a corner of the kitchen which overlooks the garden and courtyard.
In December..............you can pick fresh oranges (which are pesticide free), from the tree in the garden. These oranges are our year end gift from the sunny climate and they are as big as grapefruit. Of course we have a new orange juicer for juicing those babies!
The Cottage has maple hardwood floors in the living room and bedroom/office and 12" x 12" white matte tile in the kitchen, bath and walk in closet/laundry room.
This home is also equipped with wifi and a small flat screen TV with blue ray disk player in the bedroom area which is hooked up to Uverse. The office area has a very large desk and a color printer. (There is a small fee for printer use to cover maintenance and ink) You will have ample room to work here. I have also provided a few office supplies for your convenience.
The windows are dual glazed, and the heating is infrared, zone heating which provides heat for the areas you need without drying out the air.
The bed area has a brand new firm queen mattress, and a “Tempurpedic” type gel foam topper. If you prefer the firm mattress without the topper, please advise me at the time of booking and I will be happy to remove it. The comforter is hypo allergenic. For more than 2 guests there is one queen size Aero bed air mattress with bedding. Recent guests have said it was very comfy. In addition we have just added 2 twin size air mattresses with bedding to account for the different possible sleeping needs of 3 guests.
If you need to retreat and restore, then our bathroom is the place. The deep tub has an attached seating area and handheld shower and you can adjust the lighting to match your mood. The heat on demand water heater will supply all the hot water you desire.
Adjacent to the bathroom is the walk-in closet and laundry room. The laundry has a washer and dryer so you can pack light and avoid extra luggage fees. You provide the soap you prefer. The closet area has plenty of room to store your luggage and lots of shelving and hanging area for your clothes.
If you want to stay for a couple days or a month or more you are all set up.
The garden area is mature bougainvillea, interspersed with citrus fruit trees and bird of paradise. I just designed and built a beautiful and unique redwood gate that creates privacy for the courtyard and the garden. The courtyard is paved with a herringbone red brick design. Watching over the garden is a very large fruitless Mulberry tree, and close by is a large slender black walnut tree. In the center of the courtyard is a small steel fire pit. Because of our amazing Southern California weather, most of the year, you will be able to dine in the garden area which has a glass top table, umbrella, and four swivel chairs. I've created a circular seating area around the Mulberry tree, out of an ancient Ash tree that was cut down recently in Echo Park and cut into large stump type chunks. They encircle the Mulberry and I have seating pads for all of them. It's a lovely hang out area. You will find a beautiful old candle stand nearby to enhance the atmosphere in that setting at night.
I have provided electrical outlets all around the garden for computer service, so the outside area is ready for work or lounging.

PARKING- Yes! We have it!!
If you know Echo Park, you know we have a parking challenge, so you will be happy to know- We have off street parking for two cars. Wahoooo, pretty rare!!

So what are you waiting for? This is your invitation to enjoy and explore our unique hilly bohemian corner of the world. Did I mention we have the best local IPA brewery around? We also have all manner and types of wonderful restaurants (including vegan and vegetarian). Shops and entertainment are WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE. You are a short bus ride to all that downtown LA, Hollywood, Universal studios, Hollywood Bowl, Pasadena, Burbank and more have to offer. Due to LA City taxes, all guests staying less than 30 days must pay a 14% transient occupancy tax (another word for a hotel room tax) to the city upon or before check in. This is the same tax you pay in LA hotels and all airbnb hosts have to forward it to LA City Finance Office each month. airbnb has no facility to collect the tax at this time, so I will accept a cash payment or a travelers check/money order upon check in. Transient Occupancy Tax
Article 1.7, Chapter 2, of the Los Angeles Municipal Code imposes a tax on each transient for the privilege of occupancy in any hotel. The tax imposed shall be at a percentage rate of the rent charged by the hotel owner and/or operator and shall be remitted to the Office of Finance, effective January 1, 2005, on a monthly basis, due on or before the 25th day of the month following the close of each calendar month.
A transient is defined as:
A.Any person, other than an individual, who exercises occupancy or is entitled to occupancy by reason of concession, permit, right of access, license or other agreement, for any period of time, or

B.Any individual who personally exercises occupancy or is entitled to occupancy by reason of concession, permit, right of access, license or other agreement, for a period of 30 consecutive calendar days or less.

House Rules

Just a few simple rules to observe here-
-Check in and check out time can present a real challenge for traveler and host.
Please understand that I am not a fully staffed hotel. I must plan in advance with you for check in and check out times so that I can properly arrange cleaning helpers and meet my commitments to guests. It may be possible to make advance arrangements to change your previous times, but it also may not be possible. You must check with me at least 48 hours in advance. Thank you!
-Very Important-Please respect my neighbors-In general-Noise must be kept at a reasonable and respectful level at all times. No music and/or loud talking on the patio after 9 pm.
- I love children however the cottage is not a child friendly home. There are four glass tables and a metal edged table at toddler height. I wish you the best of luck in finding a booking that is better suited for your family!
-The home and grounds are a tobacco smoke-free environment
-Sorry no pets here as many guests can have allergic reactions to animal dander that lingers even after thorough cleaning.
-Please remove shoes at the front door, and place on the shoe shelf
-Please set your luggage only on carpeted or tile areas (I'm trying to preserve the beautiful hardwood floors.)
-Please cut food only on provided cutting boards and place hot items on provided trivots, not counters.
-Only tiny amounts of veggie material in the garbage disposal. Do not put meat, grease/oil of any kind and no coffee grounds/tea leaves down the drain or disposal, please.
-There is a portable fire pit, and you must discuss its use with me before lighting a fire in it. LA fire department and air pollution rules do not always allow its use.
