About This Listing
A cosy and quiet small appartment in the heart of Le Marais.
A top spot to discover Paris just walking around :)
** Update: I have now two Wifi spots in house :) **
** Long-stay discount: 1 night free per week booked :) **
Here is a little and really cute flat for a 2-3 person stay in downtown Paris, in the heart of the famous "Marais" district, at the crossroads of the Gay and Jew streets of the capital (the Chinese are not very far as well!).
The flat (23 m2 / 252 sq ft) is very calm, located on the 4th floor, with two windows on a almost non-circulating very tight street, sunny from 9am (if you don't like my curtains, just let the sun wake you up at 9 right in the bed !) to 2pm.
The district is the most central (nearest metro station is... Hotel de Ville/Town Hall on lane 1), you have a 9am-10pm supermarket at 1min, tons of bars and places to eat until really late, and gay clubs for those who want. At a 5min walk you will get at Centre Pompidou/Beaubourg, at 10min you can reach Chatelet les Halles (biggest mall in Paris), rue de Rivoli, Quartier Latin, Bastille... Well, that's the positive point of being right in the center ! Notre-Dame as well is at 8min walk.
The flat itself is splitted in 4 :
- one living room with a window, a couch, TV (not connected to TV network), internet Wifi included, connected Xbox (reads DVD), a radio (iPod/iPhone plug proof, no cable needed) and a table to eat
- one bedroom with another window, 2 places bed, a place to put your clothes, a bookshelf,
- a bathroom with a shower, WC, sink, glass, electricity for shaving, and there's an hairdryer in the cupboard in the bedroom
- a kitchen with 2 electrical plates, fridge-freezer, micro-wave oven, yaourt maker, bread maker...
Please note that the two main rooms (living and bed) are separated by a curtain only, not a door. It's a great flat for a weekend as a couple. It can accomodate a couple and a kid (on the couch). All other 3-pax configurations will make the flat either crowded or with not enough privacy, so please book accordingly : )
The whole is really, really very comfortable to live because of the location (center), the calm (quiet tiny and old streets : mine is from the XIVth !), the light (4th floor) and all to be happy in it (sheets, wifi, heating, etc, etc).
** Caution ! One of my BNBists unwillingly let the key inside the keyhole before leaving, which needed a locksmith and 150€ to unlock and open my armoured door ! Sounds like this is different in the US, so be cautious not to let the key in the keyhole **
** note that I provide sheets, blankets, pillows etc but no towels **
* NO smoking EVER inside
* NEVER LEAVE THE KEY INSIDE ALONE -> 150€ locksmith :s
* I'm sending a 2-p guide of tips and sights around when booking is done !
Martin was a fantastic host. His communication was excellent, and he left lots of little handy and helpful notes around the apartment. The apartments in a nice location - a medium walk to Notre Dame and a whole bunch of restaurants, and there are several vegetarian restaurants around the area. There's a coin laundry one block down, and it's a ten minute walk to a metro station (which will get you anywhere in Paris very quickly).
The apartment is fine for two people. It's larger than a hotel room, but may seem small if you are used to larger places in countries like Australia. It was warm inside, even when it was t really hear any noise.
It was good value for money, and if I was to return to Paris I would stay here again.
I felt that this place was even better than the pictures and descriptions make it appear. Everything is relatively small, but clean, neat, and well organized. It has a living room, full little kitchen, bathroom and back bedroom that is much more pleasant than, again, the pics show or indicate. Both the living room and the bedroom have windows that open to a quiet street below. On a sunny day this is really a bonus.
The location is just wonderful as well. A very short walk to the banks of the Seine and the Notre Dame Cathedral. A short two-stop tube ride to the Eiffel Tower, The area is thick with restaurants, bars, shops, museums and little galleries -- one of the most creative and socially active neighborhoods in the City.
Martin seems to be pretty continuously tied up somewhere abroad, so I wouldn't plan on actually meeting him face to face -- but he is completely and helpfully responsive to any and all inquiries through email.
Overall, I would totally recommend this as a remarkably well situated, clean and charming little apartment for one or two travelers in Paris. You simply cannot beat the convenience and location of it, and if the calendars match, I would not hesitate to stay here again in any future Parisian travels.
There's only a curtain between the rooms. This MUST be described, I was fooled. This is also a fault of airbnb, its easy to notice, that "1 bed" and "3 people" doesn't fit! I came not as a couple, so this was bad! It's not for 3 people as stated, but has only a small bed (120cm).
There is mould at the ceiling of the bathroom, which has no window , nor a ventilation.
The flat is much smaller and less bright and shiny then it seems on the pics. The upper floor is low standard, this must have been a maidens room.
It says it's for 3 people, but there's only a typical french bed, appr. 200x120cm. The Sofa is not long enough to lie on it, only for a small child. You could open it, it's a sleeping sofa, but then the whole room is filled and you cant open the door to the bathroom nor sit at the table.
Bathroom and kitchen (both no window!) are less then 2m², each.
It was quite clean and quiet and small, but cosy if you come alone or as a french-bed-couple.
Contact was ok, Martin is in Asia and sends you information.
You are right in the center with amazing places in walking distance!
We stayed the week after easter, 2015. Then it was 75.- for 2 people, now even more.
If the description was right, and the price about 65.- for two people, I would give it 4-5 stars
My girlfriend and I stayed at Martin's place for five nights. The location is very good, close to Metro stops, walking distance to the Louvre and very close to the Notre Dame. Le Marais has a ton of great restaurants.
The apartment is cute and quiet but very small. I gather that most Parisian apartments are small. But this one is small. The bed was too small for both of us – it's like a twin bed plus maybe an inch or two. Actually, I never knew a bed size like that existed.
Also, there is only enough hot water each morning for an 8 minute shower.
Martin was very nice, left very helpful instructions. This place was a good value. The bed was kind of a bummer though.
The reservation was canceled 17 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We stayed two people for 6 nights in Martin's apartment in Le Marais and I recommend it for it's location and ease. Martin left detailed instructions in the apartment for where to find things and how things work, as well as provided an easy transaction for key pickup/dropoff. Before arrival Martin was quick to respond to messages and gave us a list of things to do in the neighborhood as well as information about the apartment. The location of the flat is perfect. It is in the middle of many shops, restaurants, bars, etc. and a quick walk to many sites and metro lines. The apartment was quiet with no noise from the street and little from within the building. The pictures here accurately depict the space, which I think is good for two people maximum. The bathroom is small with no window and gets musty even with the door left open. (If you can find another place to hang wet towels outside of the bathroom, it might be better.) The kitchen facilities worked for cooking, we had a strong wifi connection during our whole stay, and the living room gets nice morning light. One thing to consider before arrival might be that the flat is on the 3rd/4th floor and the stairs are a little precarious. Overall it was an easy stay in a great location for a nice price.
