This is a rare opportunity to disconnect from tourist trails & connect with real Tasmania & easy access to natural wonders

The space
THE GLORY DAYS in 1939, is when the bank first opened its doors, it represented progress and prosperity for our small Tasmanian community. The Art Deco design wasn't just fashionable - it was a statement of optimism during challenging economic times. Local craftsmen spent months perfecting the intricate ceiling holdings you'll see in the main living area, which was once the public banking hall. The managers office still remains was considered the most prestigious room in town, where important decisions affecting the community were made. Stories of a robbery from the roof into the safe that went wrong when to much noise from the jackhammer was made & multiple transactions were dealt. When banking changed in the 1990's and smaller branches began to close this building underwent a thoughtful transformation preserving the heritage while creating a comfortable living space, vault doors remain intact, the original managers office & managers living quarters with the original pink bathroom. Farmers, shopkeepers & families whose descendants still live in the area once anxiously watched bank tellers record their transactions, You're sure to run into someone who went into the bank as a child. Visit the coffee shop just 5mins walk out the bank doors, the heritage room in the old church, fill up at the old garage or witness the original store keepers shop being transformed into the new postoffice. The butcher next door with local cuts of meat from around the area & daily specials. Though the bank is now your holiday accommodation the traditions continue. Daily life goes on around you as you explore Derby's mountain bike trails & floating sauna. Climb Mt Victoria which you can easily see its peak from the back bedroom window & explore Ralph falls. Or you simply may decide to spend your day in the wonder of the bank in front of the fire listening to cool tunes.

Guest access
Guests will enter through Charles St the original Bank Managers quarters entrance & are invited to enjoy the whole space.

Traveling between the Sunshine Coast Qld & Tasmania we have created the Secret Cabin Society & Secret Bank Society both featured on Airbnb. A Qld girl through & through & my partner Spanish we have live on the Sunshine Coast for over 20years & have a love of the outdoors, nature & cabins & we decided to build our own using recycled materials hence @secretcabinsociety was created. Then we discovered Tasmania & bought the Bank. A week after buying the bank covid hit & the boarders we're closed. 9 months later we made it back & created @secret_bank_society. Over the last 3 years we have been fortunate enough to have the help of a property manager who looked after the airbnb side of things for us. We have just taken over the management ourselves & had to create a whole new airbnb page hence we lost our reviews. If you head to @secretcabinsocierty & the website & click on the bank icon & scroll to the bottom you can read from those who have stayed at the Bank. We have a passion for antiques & collectables & have used this passion in the Bank & the Cabin. We welcome you & hope you enjoy your stay at either of these properties or both.
