Interaction with Guests
We like to allow guest their privacy if desired, but we are always accessible via text/phone. There is plenty of opportunity to meet other travelers while staying at the Pilsen Art House or Colorwheel apt. We often host get togethers in the garden which is fully accessible to all guests.
We are a 5 minute walk to the Pink Line train, # 50 Damen Bus, #9 Ashland Bus, and #21 Cermak Bus.
We also have a wonderful hosts who offers airport pick ups for $35 one way from either Midway or Ohare. If you choose to hire him, we will pass on his contact info after booking.
Other Things to Note
We offer self check in on all floors so you can arrive at your convenience. I will be in touch before your arrival date to send you lockbox info and specific directions on how to find your room, etc. We are also in and out throughout the day, and our hosts are always around as well on the first floor. I will give you everyones cell number so you can always reach one of us.
We find that guests who enjoy staying with us are those that truly enjoy interacting with other guests. So don't be afraid to chat with your flat mate, share a story, grab a meal together, explore our wonderful city together, if you're inclined. Certainly, guests can have as much privacy as they like, but be aware when booking there are many guests who come and go so if you seek a place with no other people around, this would not be a good fit for you. If you are seeking a quieter floor, we recommend the second or third floor (the first floor tends to be busier, as its our host floor and in general tends to be busier). We are also very happy to bring guests out with us when we are able.
We are always adding new art to our building, so it wont be unusual to see an artist painting away on any given day in the living room, kitchen, or hallway.
Please be courteous and mindful of noise when entering and leaving the building. We kindly request quiet hours of 10pm -10am.
There is no smoking of any sort in the Pilsen Art House. Thanks!
The host was very nice and very helpful. The room was a lot larger than expected and very comfortable. I enjoyed staying in the Pilsen neighborhood--good vibes and good times :)
I didn't actually meet Loire but she was prompt with her response.
The place itself was terrible. Plaster coming off the walls and ceiling, tile missing in the bathroom, linoleum tiles coming up off the floor in the living room. I booked this last minute and did not get a chance to check out reviews but I definitely would not recommend staying here unless as a last resort. I wish I could post some photos that I took of the place.
We had a good experience at the Pilsen Art House. We never got to meet the hosts personally but met other roommates that were very nice. They helped us with our luggage, told us all about Chicago and gave us advice on where to go and directions to the train station. They were very kind and helpful! The place was easy to recognize due to the colorful outside and the self check in with the lockbox and keys was also easy to figure out. The location was perfect - just a short walk to the bus and train stations which took us to the downtown loop within minutes. The double room beds were big enough for us four and were nice, although the room itself was a bit small with all of the luggage in the way. The room was pretty much clean, the bathroom could've been cleaner though but it definitely worked for two nights.
Altogether we had a good experience that was just right for the money and for two nights.
Place was very artsy, and the location has a little bit of Chicago culture all over. We got to meet many interesting folks from all over; and overall, the stay has been enjoyable.
Great communication from Lorie throughout. She answered all of our questions and even let us check out late (1pm). As first time Airbnbers arriving at 9pm, which was almost at the end of the 2-10pm check-in window on NYE, no less, we were a little worried but Lorie assured us that all would be fine, and it was. Live in hostess, Jessica, met us and gave us a tour of the space, two sets of keys, four towels and showed us where to get more, and made her self available by phone. She was very warm and kind. Its a cute space, Id say the description got it right. We were on the second floor. The space and room were pretty much as I expected based on description, pictures, and reviews. The girls especially seemed to like it which I was worried about as this was all of our first time using Airbnb. The bed was comfy. There are hangers to hang clothes. I brought a space heater because I read reviews that said the room is too cold but they already had a space heater in the room, and that was when they were fully booked. Also, a review mentioned the white window drape that doesn't keep the sun out so we brought a bed sheet to help black out the window and that worked well. Its a long window, so go with a bed sheet. We used tape to anchor it. There wasn't a rooster to wake you up in the morning, either. My comment about the walls being thin is that on a fully booked night, I heard nothing other than our own voices, morning and night. That was my experience. Yours may be different. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it. It had everything we needed for one night NYE stay. The artwork in the living room is really cool too.

About the Host, Lorie
Hello everyone! It's Lorie, Mike, Holden and Kyle.
We are a unique family unit who loves traveling, meeting new people, and doing as many interesting things as we can. We started Airbnb'ing after years of Couchsurfing experience, so we know how to make a guest feel at home!
We have two properties now: my Oak Park home, and our place in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago.
If you do choose to stay with us, we will ensure you are well oriented to the city and know how to get wherever you need to go. We are also very active in the city, so if you're here to see Chicago, we can give you information on where to go to experience art, music, culture, parties, fun events, festivals, and anything else this fine city has to offer.
Look forward to meeting you.
