About this listing

Our sun-drenched apartment and roof terrace is located in a historic Julia Morgan building right on Piedmont Avenue, in the middle of Oakland's nicest shopping street, surrounded by trees and liveliness.

The space

Our sun-drenched apartment + roof terrace is located exactly on Piedmont Avenue, right in the middle of Oakland's nicest shopping street, 10 minutes from the BART and an area of trees, pedestrians, cafes, gourmet grocery stores, restaurants, vintage shops, and Fenton's Ice Cream. Why stay in a tiny room in San Francisco when you can stay in a beautiful private apartment that's a 10-minute walk to the BART and less than a 20-minute train ride into the city?

Our East Bay (aka: sunnier side of the Bay!) pad gets lots of sun light because of the high ceilings and large windows. We also have a very well equipped kitchen, a large living room, a rooftop garden, and a private bedroom with an Indonesian hardwood bed, a great mattress, and soft sheets. We don't have a traditional TV because we've got something even better: a surround sound home theater system with 1080p HD LED projector across the whole wall. We've got a Roku hooked up with Netflix, etc. to watch movies, or you can hook up your own computer.

We're surrounded by many of Oakland's highlights, from Art Walk (First Friday) to Lake Merritt to farmer's markets to Jack London Square to Chinatown to to hiking in the hills. Piedmont Theater is also just two short blocks away, and there are many Michelin-recommended restaurants right on Piedmont Ave, including Commis, Dopo, and Adesso. You're also about a 5-minute drive from the Berkeley border and the College Ave. strip of Rockridge.

We're a close ride to the city (the BART is less than a mile away and the buses are incredibly convenient) but, of course, there's also plenty to explore in Oakland so we'll leave you with our favorite recommendations. Parking permits are available if you come with a car; you can park on the street nearby with a permit.

Piedmont is one of the safest neighborhoods I've ever lived in, and the surrounding area (Rockridge, Grand Ave, North Oakland) is awesome too. You'll be able to experience that yourselves through our friendly neighbors and community vibe.

Lastly, nobody will home during your stay so the entire apartment is 100% private.

Thanks for reading our listing and please let me know if you have any questions!

Dolly was an amazing host, even though we didn't meet! The apartment is lovely - right on Piedmont Avenue, which means it's a fabulous location for eating and shopping. If you're a light sleeper, you might struggle a little bit with noise sometimes. But mostly it's a very sweet space with an exceptionally well-equipped kitchen and a great projector for movies & tv. Dolly was especially kind when we had a little trouble with parking - extremely responsive to our needs and very generous. I'd recommend this listing without hesitation.

My family enjoyed staying in this great location right on Piedmont. The neighborhood is superb and Dolly was an attentive host. The apartment was clean and everything was right where she said it would be. We would certainly consider staying here again on our next trip. There is a sense that Dolly really wants her guests to have a good visit, and that makes a difference!

Me and my two friends spent 10 days in Oakland and travelled around in the Bay Area. Dolly's apartment was perfect for us! We were allowed to use all the stuff in the kitchen, watch TV (she has this amazing projector) and even have breakfast at the rooftop. As we were three people, one of us had to sleep at the couch, but this was totally ok - the sofas are very comfy! Unfortunately, Dolly herself could not be there when we arrived, but she was available via email all around the clock and we arranged all the important things (e.g. keys and parking) before we got there. If we decided to come back, we would definitifely get back to this apartment. Thank you so much, Dolly, for all your help!

I used to live in Oakland so I had a good idea where Dollys Apt was and knew it was in a good area, but once I arrived I realized her apt is in a PERFECT location! directly next store to great restaurants, across the street from an amazing grocery store, walking distance from the Rose Garden and dog parks. Her apartment itself was great too, comfortable, clean place with all the kitchen emenities you would need and a beautiful rooftop terrace for people watching. the projector was awesome too when you want relax. Thanks again Dolly! I will gladly stay again next time I am in the area.

The apartment was just what I was looking for. Very comfortable, inviting, warm. I felt very much 'at home' during my stay. Very clean and neat. Dolly was very gracious and offered much advice on places to eat, visit, shop etc. (I took advantage of some - and I have to say Piedmont Avenue is a really great hang-out. Great food, great vibe, fabulous shops). One thing I would say to anyone who decides to book is bring earplugs. Like any bustling city street, Piedmont gets its fair share of delivery and garbage trucks. If you are a light sleeper you will be glad you brought them. PS. If you forget, CVS is 100 feet out the back ;). Awesome place. I highly recommend it!

Charming little apartment, sun drenched and perfectly placed for shops and some excellent restos. The "sun terrace" is on the roof next door and you share it with noisy air conditioning units, so found this disappointing.

Response from Dolly:
Hi Gina, That is our own personal tradeoff as well--we live in the most convenient street in Oakland, but it comes with the price of city noise and an industrial landscape! We try to think of our apartment as an oasis from most of the outside surroundings and the roof is just an escape when we want some fresh air. Regardless, thank you for your helpful feedback and we are glad that you still had a pleasant stay in Oakland! Cheers- Dolly

We had a wonderful stay at Dolly and Robin's apartment on Piedmont at Oakland. The apartment is very well located for shops, restaurants and general 'vibe.' You will not be disappointed. It's a 12 minute walk straight up 40th St to BART and access to all the things in San Francisco. It's a great apartment and you will enjoy your stay there. Highly recommended!
