We wish you a pleasant stay at Kea Villa.
The Petra house was a beautiful place to stay. Mary and Vasilis welcomed us with open arms and Polina was very responsive to any questions or issues we had. The view and pool was gorgeous.
If you are allergic to bees and its summer time it may not be ideal but other than that we had a good time.
My husband, 7 month old son and I stayed at Petra House for 3 months so we know the property well. Polina is kind and helpful and very quick to reply via AirBnB with any questions. She actually lives in Athens and runs a busy company so you are unlikely to meet her at the house in Kea - we only did once in 3 months. On the other hand her parents largely spend the summer in Kea - they also live in Athens but have a small cottage 30metres away on the same property so you share a laundry, washing line and grounds with them. Mary and Vassilius are very lovely, kind people and were wonderful with our young baby especially. Vassilius keeps the pool spotlessly clean and Mary kept us stocked up with bags of local spinach from their garden. With them always around it is useful if you have any problems with the house however this arrangement may not suit everyone so it’s worth being aware of. The house is simple but tastefully decorated and has everything you might need in terms of kitchen appliances etc. It is the lower level of another house advertised on AirBnB as Villa Thea and shares the swimming pool although it has a separate outdoor dining area at the back so you have your own space. It is in a great location - not too far from the port, supermarkets etc and near some of the best tavernas and bars but far away to feel private and peaceful. It is up a steep hill with a lovely outlook over both Voukari and Otzias and a great view of the sunset. Kea itself is wonderful - there are a lot of Athenians with holiday homes there but hardly any tourists which for us was a very good thing. It is quite affluent so the prices are not as low as on some islands but not as high as Mykonos or Santorini. There are some great beaches to explore and well marked hiking trails. The island is well suited to those with a sense of adventure as some of the best beaches are 1/2 hr - 1 hr drive away and the roads are very steep and windy and often unpaved. You definitely need your own car, ideally a 4WD. Although we didn’t use it as we brought a rental over from Athens, Polina and her parents can provide a good 4WD car at a very reasonable price. One challenge we faced was when guests arrive to stay upstairs in Villa Thea who were surprised to find us downstairs - perhaps this should be advertised more clearly? We always got along very happily with the guests upstairs we just felt awkward that they hadn’t been expecting to share the pool with another family. Our only other issue was with the wifi. One of the things that was very important to us in choosing a house was that the wifi was fast and reliable...
Very beautiful house in a peaceful place with very friendly owners
We had a wonderful time at Petra House. Polina's parents are delightful and very helpful. Vasillios met us at the port which was very helpful.
The setting is beautiful and the sunsets are stunning. We shared the beautiful pool with other families. Polina's dad is very attentive to the pool and keeps the communal outside area spotless. We sampled home grown grapes and figs from his garden.
The house is lovely. We stayed downstairs in the guesthouse which had all the mod cons.
Kea itself was a discovery ! Easy to get to and very peaceful. Plenty of restaurants and shops close by.
I really recommend.
We loved the Guesthouse (Petra) for the Villa Thea. It is beautifully designed, with excellent finishes and everything you could need for a stay of a week, which we did. Although there is air conditioning in both bedroom and living room, which can be needed in some parts of Greece in the summer, the guesthouse is designed so that the breezes at the top of the hill on which it is located flow through the house and keep it cool without the air conditioning on. You only need it if there is no breeze. There is plenty of room for four, with two bedrooms and a large sitting room. The pool is clean and beautifully presented. Polina's father kindly met us at the port and took us to the guest house, which we may have had trouble finding otherwise. He was kind and charming. There was every electrical appliance you could need, and while the washing machine was not located in the guest house Polina's mother made sure we had access to it when we needed it. The Guest house is actually attached to the Villa, at a lower level, so if the Villa is also rented out you are in effect sharing the pool and environs with others. We had the place to ourselves for most of the week, which was blissful, and then six people rented the villa for the long weekend. The Villa and the Guesthouse are beautiful and we loved Kea as an island, as it wasn't full of tourists when we were there (late June 2013) and had lots of restaurants and beaches to explore. Definitely worth a return trip, and hiring out both parts of the same property (Villa Thea and Petra Guesthouse) with a group of friends would be awesome. Although we didn't get to meet Polina her father was charming and very helpful. Thoroughly recommended!
The guesthouse in Glyfada is really nice, big and the kitchen is fully equipped. Polina and her parents are very kind. They respect your privacy and will help you to find your way around. We stayed here with our 6 months old daughter. Their hospitality is excellent. We highly recommend this place and the family as a host!
