About This Listing
We have recently remodeled four wide rooms , all with private bath, hot water and air conditioned.
One room is only for two people with a queen bed, another one has queen bed and a single bed, and two rooms have queen bed and a two stairs bed, for an occupancy of four people.
we don't have TV sets and telephone in the rooms, but there is free Wi-Fi in the rooms and in the restaurant, Il Giardino en la Playa!!, that is facing the Ocean front.
The furniture are simple but functional, the bed of good quality and the cleaning and hygiene are absolutely of first importance for us, both for the rooms and for the preparation of our legendary recipes.
We are located at 100 metres East from the Public Pier, directly on the fine sand Beach, where sea turtles come to feed on the weeds of the bottom, and where is possible to watch a lot of sea bird and Dolphins.
In the Mangroves in the back of the Hotel lives a group of Capucine Monkeys that, often come to eat the fruit of the restaurant while Scarlet macaws come to feed on the Almond trees of the front , on the beach.
The bus stop is at 800-900 metres from us, the ferry boat from Golfito is docking at the Public pier, at 150 metres, and the road from S. Jose' is now almost perfect.
for staying of any length, is possible to study some kind of plan that include breakfast, lunch and dinner, in any combination, up to offer sandwiches made with our fresh made bread to the people that want to hike of do some sea tour, all things that we can help to organize directly, using our net or safe and professional collaborators, including too flights reservation and car renting.
This Hotel/ Restaurant is our home too, where we live, sleep and work, so we will receive you as some of our long time friends, with all the benefit of this , but we don't have friends that aren't less than educated, polite, clean and interesting.
We are available for to try to satisfy any needs as special diet or to help with planning your trip.
We try to maintain our rates the lowest is possible and we need your help for this: please, turn lights and the Air conditioner off when you are not in the room, and don't waste the precious water of the Osa Peninsula.
It was one of the most sophisticated scam we encountered ever. (Not newbie, after 62 countries and many cheap accommodations.) First, the Airbnb experience, which is mostly about meeting local hosts and communicate with them. Here people didn't even reacted to our welcomes. The rooms were at the back-storage of the restaurant, all coming with non-performing aircons and an abuela watching Mexican soap-operas. And it's not the cockroaches, I know it's the mangrove swamp just outside the window - which we were unable to close. The restaurant is the one you won't find in Italy: canned tuna 10 m from the sea? Low budget canned souce on the pasta? We stayed one night, no money back for the 3 next, because there were nobody to contact. We left the key in the door and immediately sought after another place.
The best thing about staying at Giulio's was the food. Because we loved it so much, we ate all our meals there. He has some beautiful, romantic beachfront tables where you can enjoy a platter of exotic fruit and milky coffee for breakfast, tasty salads and rosemary bread for lunch, not to mention spaghetti with seafood in the evening. You can have cocktails, cold beer, crisp white wine or fruity red wine to accompany your candle lit dinner. He has an extensive menu, including the ever popular pizzas but his 'spaguetti del marre' is to die for. All the staff, mainly members of his extended family, are helpful and 'simpatico'.
We had a lovely stay. The location is great. There's WiFi. The room was fine and it was luxury to have an on suite bathroom after sharing a bathroom with 10 others at the last place we stayed! We have fallen in love with the Osa peninsula. It's very special and has become our favourite part of Costa Rica.
If you are thinking about booking this location, I recommend to think twice. We were convinced from the many positive reviews and kind of ignored the few negative ones but it turned out we should have read them more carefully. One review is talking about spending a bit more when sleeping around Corcovado because animals in the room might surprise you otherwise. And that is exactly what happened to us in this room. It turned out we slept in the company of several cockroaches, I counted 10 of them, with one even crawling up my leg inside my sleeping trousers in the middle of the night... There was hole in the wall which probably was the cause of this infestation and might justify the bad experience compared to other guests. Whatever the explanation was, we decided to leave right away after a sleepless night although we had one more night to spend and a trip into the jungle planned. We also asked Giulio for a refund of the last night and although he initially agreed to that he afterwards vanished without honouring his initial commitment. Overall a very unpleasant experience and having walked a bit around in Puerto Jimenez I would say you can definitely find better accommodation with the same budget of 50$ per night.
Room was simple but clean. It was 97 and humid outside so the little air conditioner worked hard but took the edge off. Host was nice and helped answer questions when we had them. Spoke great English. The window looked out onto a "swamp". About a 7-10 minute walk to the main street with a few simple restaurants and grocery store. Main pier where tour boats departed from was just down the street about a two minute walk. Nice atmosphere at the waterside tables, romantic by candlelight. Only restaurant that had cobblestones in front of it.
Giulio and his family were very friendly and accommodating. His wife, Cecilia, made us feel like almost a part of the family. The music from a nearby bar was very loud and made it hard to sleep but I know the owners cannot control this. Overall it was a very pleasant place to stay across from the beach in Puerto Jimenez.
We (german couple) stayed there for 3 nights. I can recommend the B&B as a convenient starting point for travelling into Corcovado Park- although the building is about 10 minutes walk away from downtown Jiménez. Beautifully situated at the sea, where you can have breakfast. The pictures which show the rooms are a little bit sugarcoated, but the room is clean and OK- although the windows do not really look on to the sea. Extra service: we got 2 kayaks from Giulio for free and had a great tour to some lonely beaches.
