The living and dining area and kitchen are downstairs, and the three bedrooms are in the multi-level upstairs, nestled amongst the treetops.

With everything to do and see, this stay at our beautiful cozy Hawaiian home will be a vacation to remember.

Our vacation home is designed and built by David, a local artist and builder. It is spacious, secluded, charming and 'green' in every sense! Surrounded by lush jungle foliage, the home is sustainably built with many reclaimed, recycled and salvaged materials, including native ohia logs salvaged from cleared land. Because David is such an innovative craftsman, he was able to find use for so many items we found over the years and incorporate them so beautifully into our rental home. Many of the building materials were left over from houses he had built. Even shipping crates have been re-formed into various furnishings.

Very spacious and clean and nicely decorated. You are in the midst of a rainforest with birds and frogs and beautiful flowers. The hosts were very helpful - great tips for Volcano and Puna. Awesome snorkeling in tide pools about 30 mins away.

My wife and I had a great stay! The description of the home is very accurate - tons of space, private setting, artistically constructed and decorated. We really had everything we needed. The location is perfect home base for sightseeing on this side. David is very friendly and had a lot of good tips for us as newcomers to the Big Island. Highly Recommended!

My girlfriend and I stayed for a week at this rental. We had a marvelous time. We were far away from the usual day-to-day life in Honolulu and enjoyably so. Our hosts were always there when we needed them but were very circumspect about leaving us our privacy. One of the highlights, though, of the trip was a trip to a series of lava tubes there on the property, led by the owner and his two young sons. Yes, it's a rainy location, but one needs the rain at times for cuddling, watching movies, sleeping deeply, and growing the great green rainforest all around. Highly recommended for those of you, like us, want to escape into a different world for a while.

I am so blessed that my family and I had the opportunity to stay here. It was exactly what we needed. My favorite room was the master bedroom, waking up to pink hibiscus seen through the huge picture window, and the gentle cooling breeze. The location was perfect for getting around Puna too. It was right in the middle, so we could go up to Volcano National Park, and zip down to Pohoiki, the Hot Pond, Kehena Beach, the cliffs in HPP, and then go into Hilo for whatever we needed. Thank you Dave and Sharon for your hospitality, for showing us around, and for helping us adjust to life in Hawaii!

I had the pleasure of staying at this rental for ten days this last November. The unit has a great location almost between Hilo and Volcano in addition to being very near the quaint village of Pahoa. It is also in close proximity to the following magnificent parks: Lava Tree, Isaac Hale and MacKenzie. For the really adventurous, the property actually has on premises access to a vast network of underground lava tubes that seem to go on forever. If you are looking for a cozy, comfortable place in a beautiful rustic and tranquil Hawaiian setting, this is the place for you. I plan to stay there whenever I am on the Hilo Side of the Big Island.

  • The hosts Dave and Sharon are wonderful people. We loved the cottage and the the serenade of frogs at night. It was just what our family was looking for in our Hawaiian adventure. The only negative part was the lack of water pressure, we wish that could have been improved. The house was clean and the experience was unforgettable, truly made our experience in Hawaii magical.

  • We loved the rustic setting and we loved having a whole house to ourselves! The lava tube tour was so awesome!

  • Rustic and decorated very artistically. Love what has been done via paint and tile. Be sure you can commit to DVD only, no TV, no provided internet, drinking/cooking water provided via bottle, otherwise you might be a little unhappy. The seemingly remote location is surrounded by tropical flowers and is alive with sounds at night. Didn't mind screens as it was like upgraded cabin camping, except the bed was comfortable and the bathroom convenient. Location is about equal between Hill and Volcano National Park. Very much enjoyed our two night stay. Hospitable hosts. helpful local information in their host book. Probably not for everyone, but that is true of every place.

  • We had a lovely stay in Dave & Sharon's home. Easy to find- even at night in the rain. The kids loved the multiple staircases. A well equipped kitchen. A perfect location for exploring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

  • Unfortunately, the real address of this location was a 30 minutes drive more than what we expected, after the owners sent it to us.
It was raining a lot so it was very humid and there is screen windows that cant be closed in 2 of the rooms. We kept everything in our luggage.
Also we killed 2 cockroaches and had to take 5 dead ones out.
The location is about 20 minutes to Volcano, which was nice.
The cottage was clean and spacious enough for us 4.
    Prepare to bring lunch.
The owners sent us a long note for things to do, to eat and it was nice to have.

  • Had a great stay at Sharon & David's place. Everything was exactly as described, and we loved the privacy of the house. David was always available for any questions we had, and always responded promptly to all of our e-mails. I would definitely recommend staying here!

  • Fantastic experience on the Big Island. The cottage's serene location and authenticity was a beautiful enhancement of our experience on the Big Island. The cave is awesome - with some more planning we could have done a whole day hike in there! Nature's sounds abound near the cottage, from frogs to birds. Sharon and David were great hosts, in communication via emails and texts throughout the stay. We very much enjoyed our stay, and would stay with them again.

  • I had a wonderful 4 nights in April at Sharon and Davids Cottage. Everything I read from previous reviews was exactly correct. Many lots on the road to their home are cleared; some look like they could be a ranch house in some other state, not so Sharon and David's lot. All the trees, plants, frogs and birds are still alive and well at the cottage. If you ever wanted to go camping and have your home with you, this is the place to go. I will stay here again the next time I visit the big Island.

  • One (email hidden) about 30 mins from Hilo and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. My wife and I liked having a full kitchen, laundry, and grill to use in this forest retreat. Cool breakfast nook on the second floor feels like a treehouse!
