You will enjoy a lovely room with its own private entrance, bathroom and sauna. It adjoins a deck with a hot tub and patio furniture featuring spectacular views of the Topa Topa Mountains and a great place to observe Ojai's unique "Pink Moment."

The Space

Cradled by the rolling hills of the Ojai Valley, Casa del Cielo is a tranquil oasis full of hidden surprises.

The extensive grounds offer several delightfully novel touches. The path to your room passes underneath a natural wisteria archway as it leads you to an adjoining redwood deck, a great spot to take in a panoramic view of the lawn and native plant garden with the majestic hills beyond.

From the deck, a few steps takes you through a rose garden, then down to a large lawn, encircled by native foliage.

Continue on through an arbor in the center of the lawn down a short path, and you enter a Zen-like outdoor retreat, hugged by the hills and sheltered by tall bamboo and lush greenery. The trickling you hear is a stream, flowing from a waterfall in the Japanese Garden to your right.

Cross one of the two Asian-style footbridges and follow the stream to a large lily pond. In the corner opposite the pond, a redwood gazebo is poised on the edge of a deep canyon. It provides another ideal spot for enjoying a spectacular view of the Topa Topa Mountains and the legendary “Pink Moment.” *
*Surrounded by a rare east-west mountain range, the Ojai Valley is one of few places in the world to have a "Pink Moment" occur as the sun is setting. The fading sunlight creates brilliant shades of pink and lavender for several minutes on the Topa Topa bluffs, more than 6,000 feet above sea level at the east end of the valley.

  • We came for 3 nights after trouble with an other host, who did a double booking - so we had to look for a new place and accidentally found Casa del Cielo. It's such a wonderful house, so we are finally lucky, that the former place couldn't host us as previewed. It's a very quite surrounding, but easy to reach interesting destinations from there. We very much enjoyed the calm evenings overlooking the valley. If it would be a bit colder, one for sure will enjoy even more the opportunity of a sauna and a hot tub.
Great place with very nice hosts!

  • I was able to stay at the Casa del Cielo for a few days and I absolutely loved it! The room is quite large and everything is spotless. I took advantage of the sauna, which is a wonderful unexpected amenity. Mostly, I enjoyed the beautiful patio, which had amazing views. It was peaceful, relaxing and I found it nearly impossible to leave. Steve and Liz were so kind, warm and welcoming. They accommodated me on an extremely short notice. I highly recommend and hope to return as soon as possible.

  • Casa del Cielo is indeed spectacular as was the surrounding area. The views from the house are awesome but best of all Steve and Liz were incredibly gracious and such wonderful hosts!. The town of Ojai is just a little jont down the road and we were lucky enough to be there during the Ojai Arts Festival and a Memorial Day event hosted by veterans which was probably the most poignant Memorial Day event I've ever witnessed as it was hosted by vets from WW2 to the present and was full of great moving speeches. My husband and I look forward to our return visit next year.

  • Liz and Steve were great--warm, helpful, but totally respectful of my privacy. Their home is a beautiful oasis. The room was quiet, clean and the bathroom was great--shower and tub with his and her sinks. The room is in a separate little wing of the house, so it feels very private. Their backyard is amazing-complete with a gazebo and frog pond. Just a 5-minute drive from Ojai, this is a great place to stay when visiting the valley.

  • Liz and Steve's property in the Ojai Valley truly is a spectacular retreat. Nestled among towering mountains and hills, Casa del Cielo feels set apart, private and secluded while still being close to all the attractions Ojai offers. It's just a couple miles away from beautiful Lake Casitas, a 5 minute drive to downtown Ojai, and 20 or so minutes to the beach.

The property itself is very well-maintained and pristine (Liz and Steve built the property in the mid-1980s and have put so much effort into taking great care of it). Lucky for us they are willing to share their little peace of heaven. I took advantage of the hot tub while there (highly recommended) and explored the property, which includes a tucked-away zen garden, creek and gazebo.

The room itself has a private entrance and private bathroom complete with a bathtub, shower and sauna, though the room is connected to the main house. However, privacy is not an issue as the owners sleep on the other side of the home. They offered use of their refrigerator, kitchenware and even a tour of their lovely home. My stay was absolutely perfect--no doubt I will be going back in the near future.

Thank you for your hospitality and graciousness!

Tips: Farmers Market (on Sundays), Bart's Books (indoor/outdoor maze of a bookstore), Bohemia Coffee House, Knead Bakery (delicious pastries), Jim & Rob's Fresh Grill (awesome Mexican), Ojai Beverage Company (for happy hour and great local wines and brews) and Deer Lodge for dinner and live music.

  • Indeed a spectacular view from Casa del Cielo, like a private Shangri-La.
We enjoyed the beauty and serenity, even more exquisite from the hot tub at magic hour or gazing at an amazing night sky. (we actually forgot living in the city, that there are still stars). It is very Quite and private, a beautiful property! Ojai as always is a delight.

  • Me and my wife went for a weekend getaway to Ojai. This place was just perfect. Quiet, private and amazing. Very well maintained property. The host Liz and Steve were very nice to us, gave us a tour of the property and honestly the place looks better than the pictures.
We had an amazing time and would definitely recommend this.

  • My bf and I wanted a beautiful, quaint, and romantic weekend away. This was the perfect spot. The views are spectacular. The jacuzzi was perfect. The grounds are beautiful and walks are ever so encouraged. It felt like we were there all by ourselves. The room is gynormous. The space is extremely sweet and simple. I would definitely stay once again. If you are debating between two spots. Choose this one. It is literally 5-10 minutes away from Ojai. It is really just awesome!

  • Steve and Liz are wonderful hosts who immediately made me feel at home. They are both incredibly friendly and accommodating. This was my first stay with airbnb and I couldn’t have picked a better house!
The house itself is very beautiful and spacious and the guest bedroom offers a lot of privacy. It has its own bathroom with full bath and shower, and its own sauna which is wonderful after a long day’s hike. It also features a private deck and a jacuzzi. There is a gazebo down below where one can enjoy the beautiful peaceful natural setting and relax by a gentle stream. The house is located in a high end part of Ojai and has the most amazing views of the mountains. It is very quiet and is therefore an ideal place for R&R.
Downtown Ojai is just 8 minutes away, with some of the best restaurants, shops and entertainment.
I would highly recommend this house as a wonderful stay is guaranteed! I spent an entire month there and I will return in the future for sure.

Oberlin College
Ojai Art Center - Literary Branch
Liz grew up playing cowboys and Indians on the Illinois prairie. She was born in the small town of Marseilles, just south of Chicago. Her parents owned a grocery shop, and later a hardware store, that served the 5,000 town residents. As a kid, Liz enjoyed bicycling, singing and hiking along the Illinois River with her younger sister. From a young age, Liz was an avid reader. "There was a great library just down the street from our house and during the summer I would go there two to three times a week to restock my books," she says. When she was 12 years old, Liz's family got their first television. Liz loved watching movies. Little did she know that years later she would wind up working in the film industry. She left home to see more of the world and attend Oberlin College in Ohio where she studied psychology and literature. After graduating from Oberlin, Liz decided to try big city life in New York. She began training as a social worker helping emotionally troubled children, but found she wasn't cut out for the job. After a few years, Liz moved to Los Angeles. While at a friend's party, Liz met her future husband, Steve, a documentary filmmaker. While helping with his movies, she soon learned that the business wasn't all glamour. "You can't imagine if you haven't done it," she said. "I was working on the technical side so there was a lot of stress and deadline pressure." The hard work paid off when a project Liz and Steve worked on won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short. In the 1970s, Liz took on her own directorial project, a documentary about home childbirth. After 20 years of life in Los Angeles, Liz and her husband were ready for change. They looked all around Southern California for land on which to build their own house, but when a realtor showed them a property in Saddle Mountain overlooking the Ojai Valley, there was no question about where they wanted to live. They had no trouble fitting in with the arts community, and quickly became involved in the Ojai Film Society, and later, the Ojai Film Festival. Liz also enjoys writing, running the Literary Branch at the Art Center, and visiting the Ojai Library. "I think It's important to have access to education and art," she said. "I want always to have the opportunity to learn and be exposed to excellence in the arts.”
