Whitney was away while we were in New Orleans so we didn't meet, but she was extremely prompt and helpful leading up to the trip (we had to shuffle some things around due to a last minute flight cancellation). While in NOLA Dawn greeted us upon arrival and was super nice and welcoming!
This studio, as many others have noted, is amazing! As far as the actual living space it was extremely neat and clean and really well furnished. It was really comfortable and the locked gate made it feel very safe. SInce I live in NYC I'm used to urban areas and a lot of walking. That said, I thought that this location was spot on perfect for easy access to the French Quarter, Treme, Mid-City, and even the Marigny and Bywater. It really did feel very centrally located. I would totally recommend staying here if you are going to be exploring New Orleans!
Easy booking, a warm welcome as you arrive and a smooth check in/out experience. The location was a 4 blocks or so to get to the heart of Bourbon st. The bed smelled so fresh! I l'm a huge fresh linen girl and when it felt like I was sleeping in my bed at home. I slept well each night. Everything was fine, no complaints. I'd recommend staying here to friends.
My stay in NOLA's Studio was wonderful! Amidst planning a trip to Atlanta, I realized I had some time to explore and took the opportunity to make arrangements to visit New Orleans for the very first time. I didn't need much in the way of amenities, just a place to rest my weary head after days exploring vibrant and historical area, clean up, and of course access Wifi. :)
This affordably priced space satisfied all of those needs and then some. I didn't get to meet Whitney personally as she was away on business but she was always reachable via email, and her proxy Brian was incredibly courteous and helpful.
I definitely fell in love with the area, and my pleasant and comfortable experience in this studio contributed greatly! If it's available the next time I return to New Orleans (I'm already plotting), I would certainly stay here again.
This review is written for the other possible renters of NOLA’s Studio; it is not written to serve the owner or AirBnB.
Our bottom line: we were satisfied. We wanted a real ‘home’ (more about the inverted quotes below) in an authentic neighborhood -- and to avoid the tourist areas. Our trip was brief so we did not need a kitchen to cook in.
By these criteria, the place satisfied us. However, there were some minor disappointments: the bed, the TV, the block, and the kitchen.
The bed is very soft. I am about 6 feet and weigh around 215 (not small but not gigantic). The bed sagged significantly under me and my wife rolled into the crater. The softness did not help our backs. If you need a firm mattress, be warned.
As others have noted, there is no cable TV. We could not get the TV to pick up local broadcasts either. We wanted to watch a bit of the Olympics, and so that was a minor disappointment.
Visitors should be aware that the unit is in Treme, about 3 blocks north of the northern border of the French Quarter (Rampart St). Treme has quite a few abandoned, boarded homes, one of which is immediately adjacent to NOLA’s Studio; another is directly across the street. If you are expecting quaintness and charm on the block, you may be disappointed.
Finally, the kitchen is not exactly a kitchen. There is no stove, no sink, no dishwasher, no utensils to cook with. If you have cooking in mind, you’ll be disappointed.
The lack of a kitchen is one reason I refer to this as a ‘home,’ but not a home. It was apparently designed to be rented as an AirBnB unit. That was fine with us; we did not intend to cook or eat there.
Like most reviewers, we had no direct contact with the owner, Whitney, though she did send two canned emails. We were met, punctually and courteously, by Brian, who apparently lives in the main house.
But, again, if you’re expectation is that you will be staying in someone’s home, and you’ll meet that someone, your expectations will not quite be met.
Again, however, if you are under the impression that because this unit is being rented through AirBnB it is someone’s home, or is a a kind of BnB, you might be disappointed.
In the end, we wanted to be out of the French Quarter, we wanted a clean, reasonably priced alternative, and that’s what we got. I give this a 4* review.
The Airbnb experience relies solely on communication. I believe that, as a host, I have done a thorough job in accurately listing what amenities each of my properties offer. The NOLAs listing in no different than any other. Many of the items that this guest speaks to are true; however, one would be aware of these items prior to arriving at the property if the listing is read in it's entirety and the photos are reviewed.
The studio is simply that- a studio. It is not complete with a full size kitchen but with a kitchenette- this is visible in the photos and explained in the listing.
The property does not offer cable TV as is explained in the listing. The space does have a television with access to a large DVD collection for rainy days.
In addition, it is important to understand general airbnb terms such as "private/entire place" or "shared room." None of my listings are shared or semi-private. Everything is 100% private with private entrances- you will not be renting a room in my main home that is on property as well.
Lastly, the neighborhood is both historic and in transition. If you are not interested in history, personality and character- perhaps the historic Treme is not for you- perhaps New Orleans in general is not for you as it is a city of mixed items filled with tons of character. We have nearly 500 guests per year and all have safe experiences walking through the neighborhoods surrounding the French Quarter.
I think of airbnb as a wonderful community. As a traveler, please take the time to read complete listings, look at photos and ask any questions of your host to avoid having any unrealistic expectations. There are responsibilities for both the host and the traveler to make airbnb a great thing- please do your part to keep the community going in a positive direction.
Thank you to Whitney and Brian for the accommodations. Nola's studio exceeded our expectations! Very beautiful and well-maintained property. Will visit again!
Even though Whitney was out of town, Brian and Dawn were there to greet us at the gate and show us around the studio. Communicating was smooth and very detailed. The NOLA Studio was very impressive, cozy and clean. It was a very pleasant stay. They even had water, sodas and local beers in the fridge for us to drink. A short walk to the French Quarter. I would recommend this studio to my friends.
This place was awesome! Brian and Dawn were super friendly and helpful. The location was great too. Easy walking distance to everything in the French Quarter and Marigny. We want to go back to New Orleans and we would STRONGLY consider staying here again. Everything was great.
Whitney was very helpful. The location was safe, close to the bus and walking distance to the French Square. A great place overall.
Nola was great fun! A walk to French quarter each day and you are in the heart of it all.
Whitney was out of town on business but there was a lovely couple house sitting that took care of our check in and check out.
The bathroom was big with a good shower. The bed was comfy. The space was really nice.
Just note that there is no cooking available apart from a microwave. There is a fridge to keep beers cold though! And filtered water.
Overall it was great.
My boyfriend and I just stayed at NOLA's studio for 4 days and we had an amazing time! The studio was clean and beautifully decorated and had everything we could have needed for our stay, down to extra toiletries in the bathroom and dishes in the kitchenette. I loved having the fridge, coffee maker, and water cooler -- being able to buy and store some small essentials for breakfast and snacks saved us a lot of money and was very convenient. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and modern. It was an easy to walk into the French Quarter but was just far enough away that we had a quiet retreat to return to after the noise and excitement of the city. The hosts were always available for assistance and were more than happy to answer any questions we had about the studio or the city. We also used Carol as our cab driver back to the airport on the host's recommendation and everything everyone says about her is true! What a pleasant and helpful woman!! We loved our trip and would definitely stay here again and recommend the place to friends.
