About this listing
Two bedroom/one bath. Sunlight spills over the hardwood floors. The wood burning fireplace works! The house is on a one-way street and the yard is fenced. It's very private.
Location: Twenty steps from Antique Row--where there's dozens of antique shops, a coffee house, some great little restaurants. There's a bait and tackle store that has an amazing beer selection. There's also a Dunkin' Donuts.
Location: Five blocks to the intercoastal waterway, where everyone jogs and rides their bikes and walks their dogs along the water.
Location: Five minute drive to downtown West Palm Beach--Norton Museum, Sculpture Gardens, CityPlace (a beautiful outdoor mall with a great movie theatre).
My favorite thing about my house is the outdoor space. The covered porch, with a swing, is a great place to read and sip cocktails and waste the day away. The hammock is perfect for a nap. There's even an outdoor shower! Perfect for when you return home from the beach:)
Please treat the house as though it were your own. And even if you don't own a house, you probably will one day, and you'll realize how much effort and love it takes to keep a home feeling happily energized. Please don't smoke inside. Enjoy the outdoor space!
I really enjoyed the cottage. The property is very private with tall hedges surrounding it. Laying in the hammock or spending time on the lawn was great. The home is very roomy. Large living/dining area connected to a sun room which was great for reading. It has all the modern conveniences but doesn't sacrifice on the charm a home built 90 years ago can only have. There are restaurants and antique shops in walking distance. There's a great jogging path along the water only a couple blocks away.
Beth is extremely friendly and was there if you needed her. She gave us some great advice about places to go in the evening which only a local would really know. The main expressway is just a few minutes away and a large grocery store to fill the fridge with. There is a large kitchen that's easy to cook in.
I would definitely recommend Beth's cottage and would stay again.
Our stay here was great! The house was extremely spacious for two people and was very charming. We especially loved the outdoor space and hammock. Beth provided everything that we needed for our stay (towels, linens, etc.). She was also very flexible when it came to our arrival time. The neighborhood was great with many shops in the immediate area. Downtown W. Palm Beach was just a few miles down the street. There was also this really adorable restaurant just steps from the house called Belle and Maxwell's, which was delicious.
The only negative that I can think of was that one of the doors to the bathroom wouldn't close properly, but it wasn't really a big deal. There was also this train that would come through that blew its horn loudly, but it only woke us up one time in the early morning during the whole week.
Thanks again, Beth!
Beth is a most charming and attentive host. She responded ASAP to any little issue. Just one example: We called her one evening and told her that the handle to flush the toilet didn't work as well as it might. Beth literally flew into the house early the next morning bringing the plumber along with her. The house is a lovely historical building, built in 1925, which Beth cares for down to every detail. Her gardener comes on Wednesday and does an outstanding job of grooming and cleaning the spacious backyard and garden.
The bedrooms are large (for an historic building), the beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. The fancy four burner gas stove is a pleasure to cook with. The fridge has an
automatic ice-maker. The swing bench on the porch and the backyard hammock are a pleasure to use for relaxation.
We would highly recommend this rental property to anyone who doesn't need to stay at places like a Marriott or Hyatt. If you need that type of high end sophisticated accommodation you might not be happy at Beth's, but having said that, we just loved Beth's home.
We recently spent 4 weeks in Beth’s house with our young children and absolutely loved it- the house is charming and comfortable, with a wonderful shaded garden which is beautifully kept. The location is great- not far from the beach or downtown WPB, but also nestled within a lovely, historic neighbourhood which itself offers a lot. Beth gave us a really warm welcome and remained a very attentive and accommodating host throughout our stay. What a happy home- we had a fantastic time here, thank you!
Beth was very nice, everything at the house was exactly as described, and she was quick to respond by text to any inquiry (I even texted her at 3am once and she literally wrote back within seconds!). However, the house was a poor fit for our needs. The overall location felt a bit sketchy and was out of the way, so we had to cab it everywhere which cost us a lot. (In hindsight, would have been cheaper and a better experience to stay at a hotel closer to the water/downtown area.) Also did not sleep the last night which ended the trip on a bad note (not her fault of course, but the train whistles and airplanes flying overhead didn't help). And to be fair, other reviewers noted those aspects so it's our own fault for not heeding their warnings.
Depends on what you are looking to get out of your stay - for us personally, the house was very cute and charming, but not a good fit.
I'm sorry you found the house to be a poor fit. I am, however, perplexed by your review. In the two years I've used AirBnB, I have hosted over sixty people from all walks of life: young professionals, retired couples, single moms, families, students. None of them have ever expressed concern that my neighborhood was "sketchy". You state that the location is "out of the way" but not what it's out of the way *from*. My house is centrally located in downtown West Palm Beach-- five miles from the beach, blocks from the intracoastal, steps from Antique Row. It is less than a mile from grocery stores and the Interstate ramp. The airport is eight miles away, so-- as it is with most neighborhoods in the area-- there is some overhead traffic during the day. However, commercial planes stop flying at 10pm so I'm not sure what planes you heard that caused you to be unable to sleep. I do wish you would've communicated your vacation needs more clearly. I know the area very well and I would've been happy to guide you toward a better fit.
We spent one month here with our two little boys (2 1/2 year and 7 months old) and we definitely loved it. The house and especially the garden is perfect for children. Me and my husband enjoyed the outdoor space mainly in the evenings when the boys were already in bed.
Beth gave us a warm welcome and lots of tipps what do in the area.
We had a very good stay in Beth's house. She a great landlord, very attentive to quickly answer every question your may ask. There are 2 bikes in the garage to ride in West palm beach or Palm beach.
What we most appreciated is to feel more at a friend's than in a rent.
We will come again :)
