Amazing coastal views from a characterful apartment perched in a medieval village. Mountain walks, culture, food and French village life to hand in this retreat that is also just a short drive from Nice airport, and the fun of the cote d'azur.
An apartment in the medieval village of St Jeannet in the Alps Maritimes. Just short drive from the Cote D'Azur and about half an hour or so from Nice airport, this rural retreat combines the charm of mountain living with accessibility to the cultural and coastal life of France's Riviera. The apartment has a lovely kitchen diner, a double bedroom and shower room. There is a sofa bed in the kitchen diner too, and two small z beds for kids in a mezzanine area. It comfortably sleeps a couple or a family with two kids. Because the village is steep and the kids' beds are on a mezzanine with steep stairs we suggest that some of you may consider it is more suited to slightly older children (6+) though our own kids have grown up there from babies. It also has a large patio looking out over the coast. With its own olive tree to provide shade form those who seek it, the patio also has lovely wooden loungers for sunbathing and exterior tables for eating out under the (website hidden) Jeannet is a small quiet village perched above the town of Vence. Much of the village is inaccessible by car and so it feels restful and calm. Because it is a mountain village it has stunning views. But those who are elderly or infirm may find some of the inclines in the village a challenge. It is a well known walking and climbing centre, but also close to the coastal resorts of Nice, Cagnes sur Mer and Antibes. The area is well known for its galleries and museums as well fabulous food and great weather. This apartment can be rented in conjunction with the apartment below, which has another double bedroom, as well as a further lounge and sofa bed and shower room.
We had a very good experience of staying at this mountain (website hidden).Jeannet is very pleasant village and we liked it more than all other more renowned places around: Vence, St.Paul de Vence, La Gaude. Btw, these places are easily achievable from St.Jeannet (by car or by bus). The view from the house garden and terrace is totally unmatched: Nice, Vence, St.Poul de Vence and the sea – all well seen! There are a couple of bakeries and groceries in the village. One of the groceries also has a wide range of in-house delicious semi-cooked meal.
Cozy kitchen with sofa, fireplace (even without a fire), small library, music player with small selection of disks, rose vine and some food from local shops ensured great romantic atmosphere in the evenings.
I can't recommend this wonderful apartment highly enough. The view from the terrace has to be one of the finest in the south of France. Even the view from the kitchen sink is breathtaking. You can see Nice and Cannes and everything in (website hidden). Jeanette is fabulous. I recommend the short trip over to Vence.
We had a really great time at Franny's place. I stayed there with my parents (70's) in beginning May. It is a old house, nice, cosy and has all you need for a convenient holiday. Thanks to the nice weather, the terrace was most of the time our outside home, and it has fabulous views on the Cote d'Azur, also at night. Every day a different picture because of the light, clouds, sea and blue skies, at night starry (website hidden). Jeannet is a well hidden secret, it's a beautiful village, and the nice thing is that you can feel part of it staying at Franny's place. You have to be good on foot to get around, narrow streets, stairs and alleys are not suited for cars. You have to park your car at the edge of the village and it takes a 5 minute walk to get to Franny's place, and a few minutes more to the centre of the village
St. Jeannet has two boulangeries, for fresh baguettes, croissants and pain-au-chocolats every morning. Also there is boucherie with, pricy but great food. Few restaurants we didn't try, but seemed to be okay. There is a nice lively cafe with beautiful views on surroundings, where everybody seems to gather at the end of the day, locals, hikers, etc.
What I found particularly nice is that there are hardly no cars around in the village, everything you do, you do it by foot, and walking through the village was every time a beautiful experience because of the nice corners, views and ever changing lighting. Great inspiration for painters.
Surroundings are beautiful, going north to the Alpes is amazingly beautiful. Again beautiful nice and quiet villages on tops of hills and the nature is great for walking. Cote d'Azur is, well Cote d'Azur, if you are interested in others showing of you don't have (but you know you have something of a greater value they don't have....;-D)
Thanks Franny for letting us stay at your beautiful place!
Had a lovely stay in Franny's place in St Jeannet. The house was great - very clean, very comfortable with an amazing terrace boasting views to die for.
The welcoming flowers on arrival were just gorgeous and very thoughtful.
The kitchen is well equipped and you have everything you need in the house, eg washing machine, laundry detergent, ironing facilities etc.
I didn't meet Franny in person but she was very accessible to communicate with and extremely helpful.
This is such a great property to stay at, lovely atmosphere but close enough to Nice and other great villages in the area - would definitely recommend a visit to Eze, the view from the gardens at the top of the village are breathtaking.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't great during my visit, but regardless I had a lovely time here. I'm already planning my next trip!
We had a wonderful stay at St Jeannet. The directions and guide lines were accurate and worked out well - and the communication with Franny was swift and perfect. The village was nice and unspoiled and a perfect base for our trips around the area. We can absolutely recommend this place.
We had an utterly perfect stay in St Jeannett. The apartment was wonderful, very traditional, quaint and French in style, with a vast terrace overlooking what felt like the whole Cote d'Azur. The apartment is well equipped and Franny was extremely friendly and easy to communicate with, she also gave us great directions and advice on the area. The village itself is small but delightfully untouched and authentic. We were glad to have a car as there are so many places worth visiting in the vicinity, as well as the beaches. We'll definitely go back!
Franny's place is great. My wife and I had a fantastic stay, and thoroughly enjoyed our time in St. Jeannet. The house is beautiful and has a fascinating history. There's a nice library clearly chosen for readability. The kitchen works great for most cooking and the place, while on the smaller side, would be great for couples or families.
It's a bit of a hike up to the house from the free parking lot, and a bit of a hike down from the pay one, but once you're up there it's as breathtaking as you'd imagine from the pictures. Bring a pair of comfortable shoes if you'll be in the town much, as it's built up the side of a very steep hill. We had a car and were very grateful for it, as it allowed us to explore the region, in particular the other Perched
Villages. The drive up to Gourdon is incredible, and the flower fields are not to be missed!
Had a fantastic stay in St Jeannet. The views from the flat are absolutely breathtaking and the village itself is lovely. We used it as a base to explore the Cote D'Azure and went on a few hikes in the mountains just north of village. Well worth it for even better views! Franny is really great to work with and the accommodations are terrific with a well stoked kitchen and sleeping arrangement. Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful base in the south of France or an inspiring get away.
This has to be the best view on the French Riveria - it is absolutely stunning, and with two day beds and a gorgeous olive tree for shade it's hard to move off the terrace. We had a great stay here. The apartment has everything you need - a fully equipped kitchen, large fridge/freezer, extremely comfortable bed and was very clean. The village is lovely - some great restaurants, bakery, butcher, fruit/vege shop. We wish we lived closer so we could stay more often.
