About This Listing
Join me in my comfy house. I'll entertain you with stories of old Austin or leave you be. I'll take you to the grocery store or lend you a map and a bus schedule. Come feel at home in my home. I love company.
I could not be more tickled! Bring a book and take a book-The Avenue G Little Library is open for business!
Come stay with me. The house is a 750 sqft bungalow w/ shared bath, hardwood floors, sometime lap cat, and a wonderful carporch for sitting and visiting. This is a private room in a comfy house with a new Queen Size bed. I also have a single mattress for the floor if you have a miscellaneous person who wants to tag along
The Skyview neighborhood is just 1/4 mile from North Loop, 3 miles from UT and 5 miles north of downtown—and close to public transportation.
We're on the Capital Metro #7 bus line which whisks you through the University of Texas and downtown in a snap. The #350 airport bus has a stop that's only 1/4 mile from the house so that makes it super easy to get to and from the airport-though, if I can, I'm happy to provide shuttle service.
That same # 7 connects w/ the #30 with will drop you off a block from the entrance to ACL Fest. And 50 feet from the F1 shuttle stop. So if either of those events are in your future public transport from here is really easy. The #7 and the light rail both take you to a zillion live music venues–and that's a lot!
Two things I really love are scale models and maps. You'll see plenty of both in this house. There's a giant letter and a mini tricycle. A couple pairs of tiny shoes and a rowboat to match. As for maps, I hope you'll enjoy the incredibly lovely and detailed map of Texas in your room. And to light your way should you come home late are two wonderful globes-one terrestrial, and one celestial.
But the very best part of this house isn't in the house at all. You are sure to be cleaner and more serene once you've been here as little as an hour. Come enjoy my outdoor shower. As the pecan and sycamore trees look on you can scrub down in 100 square feet of funky luxury. It's especially nice when there's a full moon! (NOTE: There is an indoor shower as well-but it's not as much fun.)
This rental also comes with as much or as little advice about cool stuff to do and see in Austin as you'd like. I've lived in Austin for 37 years so I know some local haunts. And if you're nice, I'll take you on my famous "Tour A". Also-Your stay includes one free chauffeur driven trip to the grocery store.
Avenue G is part of a long established neighborhood. You can walk a couple blocks to buy the morning paper and continue a few more to enjoy it at a local coffee house. Just a block away is Quality Seafood, a fun oyster bar with a Cajun flair. The local Half Price Books is just down the way, along with a sushi joint, Thai, Mexican food and a hamburger place.
It's also just a short walk to the incredibly hip NORTH LOOP DISTRICT. North Loop is full of vintage shops, has a subversive bookstore, a couple of great restaurants and lots of hipsters wandering around.
This is an easy, inexpensive, place to stay in Austin for a weekend or a week. Close to public transportation, easy to get to via car and within steps of great food and drink. Stay here and experience a bit of what makes Austin...Austin. Come visit!

In case you're looking for a fun and funky activity, check out my friend Dale Whistler's "Austin Outdoor Art Tour" on vayable. I have long referred to Dale as the "big art" man. If anyone can introduce you to cool Austin public art it's Dale. VERY FUN!
And if you want the "Keep Austin Weird" tour go to texperttours. That's my friend Howie Richey. Great Texas historian and professional grade weird guy.
If you are without a car and want to spend time exploring downtown check out austinbcycle. Very cool! A guest turned me on to it. Basically there are bicycles all over downtown. You buy an $8 membership. You grab a bike, use it to go a mile or two, return it. When you're done there, grab another one and go to your next stop. Seems like a great way to get around the central city.
ALSO- if you are planning to go to San Antonio check out San Antonio Bike Tours. My friends Steve and Suzanne lead incredibly cool tours on recumbent trikes they provide. It is an easy way to see the sights with very knowledgable folks. Check it out.
For international travelers my recent New Zealand guests had a great idea. They were in the states for about 4 weeks. They bought a $50 phone at Sprint along with a month of service which included calling, texting, internet access and GPS functionality. It cost about $100. They felt it was a great way to stay in touch and well worth the money. Just sayin'.
••• NOTES FOR NEW AIRBnB GUESTS •••
It's really helpful to all hosts to know you're a real person with friends and connections. So please take a minute to put your social networks and phone number in the verification area. Till you get all those glowing reviews that are just around the corner it's a helpful way for hosts to feel secure.
As is obvious, I'm just a person who loves Austin and not the "staff" of a hostelry. When you inquire, especially on short notice, I'm going to jump through hoops to accommodate you. So please, if you decide to stay elsewhere take a minute to let me know so I can go back to my "normal" life. Yeah, normal.
That's all I have- see you soon!
Kitchen- you're welcome to store food and cook
Carporch- great for reading and visiting
Extra towels to take swimming
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you like. And I'm only a text or call away if you find yourself in a pickle and need some help or advice.
My neighborhood is a little bit funky and basically middle class with some eclectic touches. My neighbors are nice and we often hang out. Just south of me is the trendy North Loop area. Cool shops, good burgers.
I'm a block from the #7 which goes through the University and downtown. three blocks from the #350 that comes directly from the airport.
Other Things to Note
I am very fun, love to give tours, and am happy to guide you to your best Austin experience.
No smoking in the house. No biting the cat.
The "carporch". I invented the carporch. If you have friends in town they're welcome to visit.
Michele is a warm and considerate gal, that was instantly friendly. She also welcomed my visiting children. She took me to a lovely market, and included me on a garage sale outing.
This was our 2nd Airbnb experience, Michele and Treat were great hosts! Great communication and accommodations; the outdoor shower under the stars was definitely a plus. Location couldn't have been better and our room was clean and comfy. Looking forward to staying with Michele again on our next trip to ATX.
Michele is amazing!!! She greeted us right when we got there and made us feel like we were instantly at home. Her home is exactly how she describes, super cozy and that outdoor shower!!! It's engulfed by the smell of jasmine and hints of lavender and seeps in to the bedroom window which makes for a true experience. I definitely had to take advantage of shower in nature and I highly recommend it!! One of the coolest things I've ever done!!!
Michele was an awesome host! She always made sure we had everything we needed and gave us some killer suggestions of things to do and where to eat. The greatest thing is that she urges you to get out and have fun and see has much as you can which really gave us that extra push to keep going on the last leg of our roadtrip.
Overall amazing stay and I highly recommend staying with her!!!
Staying with Michele was like being with a good friend! She was welcoming and friendly and made me feel at home. The location is good and quiet, the neighborhood is filled with small homes - feels like a family setting. Her home is very comfortable, tidy and very clean. Ask about the outdoor shower…if the weather is pleasant, its delightful. I had a brief but enjoyable stay. Thanks, Michele.
I had a wonderful experience with Michele! She and her home are friendly and welcoming. Located near several major bus lines and the light rail it was very easy to travel around town to visit all the sights and convention I attended. Michele offered great suggestions on sights and food as well as offering a ride when it was raining one morning. A class act host, I highly recommend to all and look forward to returning for next year's convention.
Michele is an incredible person. Warm, funny and clever. She made me feel welcome right away in her fantastic home. The room is so nice and the bed is amazing. Though, the most fantastic thing is definitely the outdoor shower! Wow, that's awesome! I was also lucky that Michele had time to take me on her famous Tour A. What a great way to see the green part of Austin.
As you might already have guessed, I can highly recommend you to stay at Michele's if you are in Austin. You will not regret it!
About the Host, Michele
My kind recommenders have done a pretty good job of outlining who I am. Or at least, how I act. Check 'em out.
Having company is a great guilty pleasure. That's why I'm an AirBnB host. How fun to have new potential friends show up on my doorstep! I love to talk about my town and the Central Texas area. If you need advice about good Tex-Mex or the local museums I can surely help. And if I don't know the answer I bet I know someone who does.
I want to hear about where you live. What's the price of eggs? How do you get to work? What does your family usually do for the holidays? Anything you want to share will probably interest me.
And, if you want to drop your stuff and disappear that's fine too. Just ask if you need anything.
As to my life motto, hmm..."It's all good!"
Funky shopping district. Musical instruments, vintage clothing and stuff...Couple of restaurants. Good place for funky fun.
YUM! Great Cajun food. Great shrimp and trout, All around good seafood. Home town atmosphere. Oyster bar. Live music early in the evening.
About a mile from my house. Classic coffee house. Open 24 hours.
The BEST thrift store in town.
Do NOT miss the french fries. Just over 2 miles from my house. I walk down for a burger or fried egg sandwich often.
Just about the coolest grocery store, restaurant, music venue, outdoor hang out on the porch joint in town.
A MUST for any visiting foodie.
Need one nut or screw? Unusual kitchen gadget or advice on how to repair something? This is the place. Home grown Austin.
Great park for a stroll or a swim.
There are lots of places to enter and exit the park. The total length is about 7.5 miles. Lovely walk almost any time of year.
