Come stay with me. The house is a 750 sqft bungalow w/ shared bath, hardwood floors, sometime lap cat, and a wonderful carporch for sitting and visiting. This is a private room in a comfy house with a new Queen Size bed.
The Skyview neighborhood is just 5 miles north of downtown and 3 miles north of UT all close to public transportation.
We're on the Capital Metro #7 bus line which whisks you through the University of Texas and downtown in a snap. The #350 airport bus has a stop that's only 1/4 mile from the house so that makes it super easy to get to and from the airport-though, if I can, I'm happy to provide shuttle service.
That same # 7 connects w/ the #30 with will drop you off a block from the entrance to ACL Fest. And 50 feet from the F1 shuttle stop. So if either of those events are in your future public transport from here is really easy. The #7 and the light rail both take you to a zillion live music venues–and that's a lot!
Two things I really love are scale models and maps. You'll see plenty of both in this house. There's a giant letter and a mini tricycle. A couple pairs of tiny shoes and a rowboat to match. As for maps, I hope you'll enjoy the incredibly lovely and detailed map of Texas in your room. And to light your way should you come home late are two wonderful globes-one terrestrial, and one celestial.
But the very best part of this house isn't in the house at all. You are sure to be cleaner and more serene once you've been here as little as an hour. Come enjoy my outdoor shower. As the pecan and sycamore trees look on you can scrub down in 100 square feet of funky luxury. It's especially nice when there's a full moon! (NOTE: There is an indoor shower as well-but it's not as much fun.)
This rental also comes with as much or as little advice about cool stuff to do and see in Austin as you'd like. I've lived in Austin for 35 years so I know some local haunts. And if you're nice, I'll take you on my famous "Tour A". Also-Your stay includes one free chauffeur driven trip to the grocery store.
As is obvious, I'm just a person who loves Austin and not the "staff" of a hostelry. When you inquire, especially on short notice, I'm going to jump through hoops to accommodate you. So please, if you decide to stay elsewhere take a minute to let me know so I can go back to my "normal" life. Yeah, normal.
If you're new to AirBnB here's another tip- It's really helpful to all hosts to know you're a real person with friends and connections. So please take a minute to put your social networks and phone number in the verification area. Till you get all those glowing reviews that are just around the corner it's a helpful way for hosts to feel secure.
In case you're looking for a fun and funky activity, check out my friend Dale Whistler's "Austin Outdoor Art Tour" on vayable. I have long referred to Dale as the "big art" man. If anyone can introduce you to cool Austin public art it's Dale. VERY FUN!
And if you want the "Keep Austin Weird" tour go to texperttours. That's my friend Howie Richey. Great Texas historian and professional grade weird guy.
Avenue G is part of a long established neighborhood. You can walk a couple blocks to buy the morning paper and continue a few more to enjoy it at a local coffee house. Just a block away is Quality Seafood, a fun oyster bar with a Cajun flair. The local Half Price Books is just down the way, along with a sushi joint, Thai, Mexican food and a hamburger place.
It's also just a short walk from the incredibly hip North Loop district. North Loop is full of vintage shops, has a subversive bookstore, a couple of great restaurants and lots of hipsters wandering around.
For international travelers my recent New Zealand guests had a great idea. They were in the states for about 4 weeks. They bought a $50 phone at Sprint along with a month of service which included calling, texting, internet access and GPS functionality. It cost about $100. They felt it was a great way to stay in touch and well worth the money. Just sayin'.
This is an easy, inexpensive, place to stay in Austin for a weekend or a week. Stay here and experience a bit of what makes Austin...Austin. Come visit!
Michele's place was perfect. Super clean, cozy, and in a great location. Definitely one of my favorite airbnb stays.
Michele made me feel I had a home after a long car journey to a new state and then while searching for a more permanent place to call home. Kind and thoughtful, with a ton of knowledge about Austin and passion for people. Plus a great location. Highly recommended!
My girlfriend and I came for the weekend. Michele was great. She was accommodating and the location was great. I would definitely do it again.
Michele was a delightful and accommodating host. She has a lovely home that is authentically Austin in a great location. I highly recommend staying with her on your next trip to the coolest place in Texas.
Michele is a super kind , very attentive host , the house is in a lovely wooded , very central neighborhood and the room is really comfortable and sweet -- i loved my stay and highly recommend Michelle's place
my son was getting married in austin and, aside from the two days i spent at the venue, i wanted a place before and after from which i could sally forth to explore and return to rest- michele's was perfect! lots of info and great stories about austin and life in general. i loved the neighborhood and near by coffee house she took me to. a perfect introduction to a place i'd never been, and one where i may be spending a lot of time in the future. for sure when i do go back i'll be staying at michele's! thanks michele!
Michele made me feel like we had been friends for years. Her easy going style made it a perfect place to stay while visiting with my daughter and boyfriend. She went out of her way to share places in Austin. A PERFECT host. Thank you.
What a great host! The lady friend and I stayed with Michele for 3 days while we were exploring Texas. If you're hoping to learn about the area, get recommendations on where to eat and see live music, or just need really comfy bed for a few nights then look no further. The outdoor shower is awesome! We will be staying with her again if we return to the Austin area.
This was my first trip to Austin and Michele was the perfect host to ensure I came back again! She picked me up from the airport and even took me to the grocery store on the way to her place. She is such a fun personality - we went hiking together, shared a few meals and several stories, and I learned quite a lot about the city from her. I came for a conference at the Convention Center. Michele's place (very comfortable, and located in a beautiful, quaint and quirky neighborhood!) is walking distance to the bus stop and a light rail stop, and you definitely need either a car or public transit to get downtown. The transit is very cheap, clean and comfortable, but unfortunately it is rather infrequent so be sure to plan your travel well! Highly recommend her home to anyone considering a trip to Austin - Michele will take great care of you!
The house and Michelle are great! Everything is fun there! The outdoor shower rocks!! She helped us a lot and make our stay very comfortable. I hope we keep in touch with her and we thank her for a great time!
