A trip to Tuscany would not be complete without stopping over in Montepulciano, one of the region’s most charming medieval towns.Well-known for its bistecca fiorentina, pici pasta, pecorino cheese and, of course, its famous Vino Nobile, this hill-top town offers many eateries serving classic Tuscan cuisine. To the menu, add a calendar of cultural events especially in the summer. The Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte draws highly-regarded artists from around the word who work with young talent; and for the month of July you are in for a treat of daily performances ranging from classical to modern music, art etc. in its various forms. The appeal of Montepulciano hasn’t been lost on Hollywood either; the vampire saga Twilight sequel New Moon was filmed here. In mid-August each year the town’s Contrade compete in the Bravio delle Botti race where teams roll wine barrels from the base of the town up to the main square. To that mix add beautiful landmarks of Renaissance churches and historical palaces, coupled with fashionable shops that sell high-quality leather, linens and art.
Not far from the town square on a quiet street, is this renovated 1,100 sq. foot (110 sq. meter) apartment. Fully furnished and bright throughout, the entrance steps down into a separate living room with a TV and a fold-out couch that sleeps two. There are two bedrooms (where the double beds can be made into queen-sized beds for couples), a bathroom, storage room and a fully-equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. There are stunning views from the apartment of surrounding countryside and vineyards, the Trasimeno lake, the Chiusi lake, the Montepulciano lake and the central Apennines
Montepulciano's strategic position makes it a perfect base from which to explore this beautiful corner of Tuscany; from here, you can easily reach Siena, Cortona, Pienza, Montalcino, Assisi, Orvieto, Florence, Arezzo, and Perugia by car, train or bus.
The apartment is located 50 meters from the Main Course, where they are, bars, restaurants, shops of all kinds, and at the same time is in a quiet area.
Gianni was a great host we arrived really late Friday night(around 12) and he was more than willing to come meet us. GREAT location 2 minutes walk form the main street and city center. Nothing fancy and no internet but great views out the bedroom windows.
Great apartment with an wonderful panoramic view. 1 min walk to È Lucevan Le Stelle where you can enjoy a fantastic Tuscan sunset. A highly recommended apartment with gracious host Gianni, who will accommodate every expectation!
Our stay with Gianni was excellent. He drove down to meet us at the agreed upon time and drove his motorcycle up to where we could park. We then walked up (rather steep if you have big bags) to the flat.
The flat is spacious and the beds are okay. Not the best, but sleepable! The views from the flat are worth 5 times the price! You have nearly 180 degree views of Tuscany.
If I had to suggest any improvements, I would say to add some more furniture/pictures/etc. Feels a bit empty and rustic.
Gianni was very friendly - he picked us up in the city and showed us to the house. He was there just 2 minutes after I called for his help :)
The house was really nice (especially the two inner rooms with nice view).
It was a little cold, but nothing that we could not overvcome.
I can only recommend to visit Montepulciano and to stay at Gianni's place.
