About this listing
From the moment you walk through the gate a tranquil garden awaits you with a deck for lounging and a private hot tub. Our lovely bungalow is located in trendy Temescal with great restaurants and a short walk to the train station to hop into SF.
From the moment you walk through the front gate you are in another world...a surprisingly lush and tranquil garden awaits you with a deck for lounging. Venture further along the flagstone path and you come upon a private outdoor hot tub nestled in a deck right outside the french doors leading into the bedroom.
The 1915 Craftsman era cottage is a cozy and functional nest, with one bedroom containing an extra long full-size bed with a firm organic latex mattress (great for people with back issues), an adjoining bathroom with a claw foot tub, and french doors leading out to the hot tub. The kitchen - designed with the cook in mind - has all new appliances and openly flows to the dining room, where you can have dinner in front of the fireplace -- for those chilly winter evenings.
Our lovely bungalow is located in trendy Temescal, a neighborhood within a short walk of several restaurants opened by proteges of Alice Waters (Bakesale Bettys, Pizzaiolo to name a few), and only a few blocks from Temescal Alley, which has a coffee kiosk, art galleries, and a retro barbershop among its offerings. Walk a bit further and you will be in the lively shopping and restaurant streets of Rockridge or Piedmont Avenue, and a short cab ride takes you to Lake Merritt, Uptown or Old Oakland.
We are within a 10-15 minute walk of two train stations (Rockridge and MacArthur) where you can easily hop a train into central San Francisco. If you have a car, there is easy street parking right in front of our house.
Oakland has great weather year-round (it is one of the most temperate climates in the world) and it is a central, convenient base for exploring San Francisco, the Bay Area and Northern California. Spend the day exploring, yet come back to a peaceful setting that makes you truly feel like you are on vacation.
Up to two adults can fit comfortably in our house. It is not suitable for children, we do not have sleeping pads for additional people, and the couch is not suitable for sleeping.
Note: We prefer a minimum stay of 3 nights; however, a two-night stay might be possible, depending on the day of the week, so please ask me if you are interested in booking a two-night stay.
Guests have full and exclusive use of the house and includes access to the hot tub, garden and kitchen.
Interaction with Guests
Our interaction is almost exclusively by email and/or telephone. Unfortunately we are rarely able to meet guests in person.

This little cottage was the perfect landing spot for our trip to the San Fransisco area. The indoor - outdoor home space is fantastic, we used the outdoor space equally as much as indoors. Lovely garden, space to read, hot tub and considerable privacy considering that one is a few blocks from a selection of restaurants. Great cappuccino just around the corner and down a block or so. Popped on BART easily from this location. Drove up to Piedmont - took me less than five minutes.
Well stocked kitchen - whole foods just a few minutes up in Berkeley - easy! And the property is lovely - spacious one bedroom home, lots of room, beautiful windows and craftsman style interior. It's a keeper.
Tamara and her place are really great. She made it easy for us to come in at an odd hour and responded quickly to questions we had. We would stay there again anytime.
Tamara's place was extremely inviting and in the perfect location for our stay. Check in/out process was easy and Tamara was extremely easy to reach via text/email with any questions I had before and during my stay. My favorite spot to hangout was outside on the couches in the afternoon.
This is the sweetest little house ever! It's absolutely adorable, really. And the garden-- wow! The lemon tree, an apple tree, strawberries, and so much more. Just so gorgeous. If you are a gardener, Tamara's garden is a must-see. It is creatively and thoughtfully done. I wish I would have had time to soak in the hot tub.
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely space, Tamara!
My mother and I had a wonderful time at Tamara's place. (My mother was visiting me from Japan. I live in the area but my place is small, so I wanted to find somewhere nice for my mother.)
Tamara gave me responses quickly whenever we had questions, and all the information and pictures listed were accurate and helpful. The neighborhood is nice, quiet, and convenient. I would definitely come visit her place again when I have guests!
My husband and I spent a few days at Tamara's home. It was our first time in the Bay area and we are pleased that we chose her home. We didn't meet Tamara but all the information she sent via mail was very accurate and helpful. All her recommendations were perfect! She was a perfect host. We did appreciate the fact that the home was in walking distance to the BART. The home is located in a very nice and quite neighborhood and we enjoyed going for walks at night.
The description and the pictures of the house were very accurate. We really enjoyed our stay at Tamara's and will recommend it to our friends.
From my first inquiry on this Beautiful cottage style home host Tamara was excellent. With her quick responses and going above and beyond to make sure our stay went smoothly, I could ask for more. I give two thumbs up.
About the Host, Tamara
I have lived in the SF Bay Area since 1990 and having grown up in Northern California and Nevada, I have a deep knowledge of the region and will be happy to make suggestions for places to go that suit your particular interests. I also love to cook and eat out and can give you lots of suggestions for restaurants and food and wine-related excursions. My husband Ramon is a native of the Netherlands who immigrated to the U.S. in 2004 and in addition to English he of course speaks fluent Dutch as well as workable German.
