Perfect for families craving nature, adventure, and a peaceful retreat from the city in Southern California's stunning high desert.

The space
Welcome to Flip Flop Ranch—Where Conservation Meets Adventure

Horses, peacocks, sheep, and more await at our working 40-acre farm in the heart of Lucerne Valley. But this isn't just any farm—we're home to several endangered heritage livestock breeds, and every stay helps preserve them for future generations.

Your Farmhouse Retreat
Our bright, airy farmhouse puts you in the center of authentic ranch life. Wake to the rooster's call, fall asleep under spectacular desert stars, and discover the rhythm of a lifestyle many families lost generations ago.

Meet the Animals
Sheep and lambs, pigs and piglets, cows, chickens, barn cats with kittens, geese, ducks, turkeys, goats, horses—our diverse barnyard family will delight animal lovers of all ages.

Perfect For
Family reunions, business retreats, friend getaways, or anyone seeking a meaningful escape where your stay makes a real difference.

Guest access
Guest Access
The entire farmhouse is yours—full kitchen, all amenities, and freedom to explore our 40 acres and the vast desert landscape beyond.

The Art of Slowing Down
We've intentionally designed this space for digital detox (no wifi or TV). Guests tell us it feels strange at first, then liberating—families actually talk, kids run outside and play, and everyone rediscovers what it means to just... be.

Surrounded by natural beauty, your only job is to relax: watch sunsets paint the desert sky, go bird-watching, hike the open terrain, listen to the livestock's gentle rhythms, read that book you've been meaning to finish, or simply sit in silence. Blue skies, fresh air, starry nights, and the sound of absolutely nothing—all included.

Sleeping Arrangements (sleeps 15)

Downstairs: Room 1 (2 full beds), Room 2 (3 queen beds)
Upstairs: Master (1 king), Bedroom 2 (1 full), Bedroom 3 (1 queen)

Linens provided; bring extra blankets if you get chilly easily. Sound machines are in each room for those who prefer to sleep past the rooster's morning greeting!

Other things to note
Seasonal Activities
Goat milking is seasonal—just ask us about availability during your dates!

Farmhouse Character
Our beloved old farmhouse has plenty of charm and history. While we're always improving and maintaining the property, this is a working farm—not a polished resort. Expect authentic country living with all its quirks and character. The house will be clean and ready for your stay, and you won't see active renovation during your visit. If specific amenities are important to you, please ask before booking—we're happy to provide details but cannot offer refunds for unmet expectations.

Embracing Rural Life
Country living is an adventure! You might encounter escaped livestock on the porch, see bugs (we farm organically), or face weather-related challenges like muddy roads or power outages. Rural service calls take longer—if the AC fails, you'll need to open windows until repairs arrive. We believe there's no bad weather, just poor preparation, so pack accordingly for desert extremes and occasional winds (especially May and August).
This unpredictability is what makes farm life exciting—come with flexibility and a sense of humor!

Connectivity
Rural WiFi is spotty and limited. We recommend using your phone's hotspot or embracing the digital detox.

Required Paperwork
Our insurance requires a signed rental agreement 24 hours before check-in (farm insurance is scarce in California—we must comply with their requirements). We'll send the agreement after booking; once signed and returned, you'll receive your access code.

Tour Availability
Tours typically unavailable on Sundays, holidays, and occasional weekdays. Book early—availability not guaranteed.

Neighborhood highlights

The home is located on a working farm surrounded by miles of beautiful desert with hardly any neighbors. Plenty of space to go hiking. Located five miles down the mountain (about 30 min drive) from Big Bear lake and the ski areas.

We are 45 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park and less than an hour from Calico Ghost Town. Wolf Mountain Sanctuary is about ten minutes away and The Sound Bath and Pioneer Town are about a half hour.

We're also only 22 miles (about a half hour) from Means Lake in Johnson Valley where King of the Hammers takes place. Johnson Valley also offers fantastic off highway vehicle areas for dirt biking or rock crawling all year long.

Lives in Lucerne Valley, California
I'm Serina and I’ll be showing you around my family’s farm. We raise rare heritage breeds of pigs, chickens, cows, goats, geese and a bunch of beautiful but slightly annoying peacocks. We started farming so that we could become healthier and more self sufficient. When we started 15 years ago, we were absolute beginners and didn’t have a clue what we were doing. There’s always more to learn but now we know enough that we help other people to get started on their own little homestead! I’m excited to teach you about goats and how to milk whether it’s just for the fun of the experience or because you’re serious on wanting to pursue this kind of life. Either way, you’ll leave here with new friends and knowledge and be more connected to nature and farming!
