Very peaceful and less than 10 minutes from the little town of Atenas.
We live on a well traveled gravel road 150 meters from the paved road and less than a 1/4 mile to the local bus to Atenas (10 minutes away) where you can make connections to other routes. The views in the area are pastoral and wooded with a few houses in sight from the deck. The area is pretty quiet and muy tranquillo.
This is a private room with an adjacent private bath. The room has two large screened windows a separate entrance opening to large deck overlooking coffee with mature trees with a distant view of San Jose. We love to sit out on the porch and watch birds and butterflies. We have several outside spaces with exotic plants and nice views. The house is 5-6 years old with high peaked rustic teak wood ceilings and tile floors. We have free WIFI. The temperature here is perfect and your room has a ceiling fan which you probably will not need.
We are sort of vegetarians who occasionally eat fish and our guests are welcome to use the grill for whatever they like to cook.
Atenas is centrally located for travelers who want to see different parts of Costa Rica.
Coffee, toast and fresh local fruit are served for breakfast.
We will consider single nights stays to accomodate your travels needs.
You will have access to your own private, all outdoor space and the kitchen.
Interaction with Guests
We interact with our guest only as much as you like.
NO SMOKING. The use of the kitchen does not include cooking meat, however, the outdoor grill is available. We do not use a dishwasher and guests are responsible to clean up after themselves.
My girlfriend and I stayed here for our first night in Costa Rica and had a great (albeit short) stay with Robert and Beatrice! The roads and directions to the house are a bit tricky (we arrived late at night) but when we arrived, we found Robert standing outside the gates patiently waiting for us. The room was clean and private and we had access to our own bathroom. The morning view was breathtaking and we took it all in over a lovely breakfast prepared by the lovely Beatrice. All in all a great experience! A big thank you for the great hospitality :)
The description of this spot is very accurate. I really loved the deck, where you have spectacular views. The hosts, Robert and Beatrice went out of their way to make me feel welcome and I had a wonderful breakfast with a view each morning. It is a little far (to walk) from town, so bring some dinner items or there is a bus available.
This was the perfect place to stay for our last 2 nights in Costa Rica. Their home is in a really nice area and we really enjoyed having breakfast on their porch watching the birds. This was the nicest home we stayed in during our trip Robert and Beatrice were very welcoming and we felt very comfortable staying there. We would definitely stay with them again!
Robert was a fantastic host and went out of his way to make our stay perfect. He even picked us up from the airport for a very reasonable fee. Their home is vey tranquil with a beautiful balcony over looking the mountains. Atenas is very quiet but a lovely town. The highlight was breakfast and coffee in the mornings with a stunning view. Highly recommended.
My wife Heather and I had a super time at Robert and Bea's place in Mercedes. They were very thoughtful and went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable and at home. They even invited us to have dinner with them on our last night on our stay at their place. We also enjoyed many great conversations as they told us more about Costa Rica. Their home was a beautiful on the side of a hill overlooking the valley below. We would highly recommend a stay with them any time visiting the area, five stars from us, pura vida,
Heather and Buck.
Todo nos gustó, el sitio, la casa y que decir de Robert y Beatrice, sencillamente encantadores. Recomendable 100%.
Spectacular natural views. The small quiet town nearby, Atenas was a friendly place. Our hosts kind and attentive . Contemplative place to relax and unwind. Best restaurant in Atenas was La carreta.
we like to experience different cultures, our style of traveling is mostly mixing and getting to know the locals.staying at bed and breakfast, hotel or camping at time. favorite destinations are france and costa rica, we enjoy growing tropical plants, watching birds and butterflies and eating local food such as fresh food and vegetables. we eat fish but not meat. but guest are welcome to use the grill and cook anything you like, we will make sure that the guest stay will be a very posistive experience as we know both roles. we are learning spanish and able to converse enough to get what we need, we also speak french.
