Staying at the Loft was an absolute dream! Me and my boyfriend stayed for a long weekend for our anniversary, and it was perfect. Bill and Melissa put so much thought into making the Loft look wonderful and were very attentive to our needs. The property is stunning, and the work Bill has done to it is phenomenal; just walking around the property was one of our favorite parts of the weekend. The location is so convenient, too, being only about 10-15 minutes from downtown Austin. Bill and Melissa were the perfect hosts, we loved talking with them and hearing their stories. We will definitely be back to the Loft soon!
I highly recommend you stay at the loft if you're seeking a quiet getaway that's still close to everything Austin has to offer. (Downtown Austin is about a 10 minute drive away.)
My fiancé and I were in town for a few days for our anniversary, and it was the best place we could've chosen for a romantic vacation.
The loft is beautiful, comfortable, cozy, and well-stocked with cooking supplies, basic amenities, and little treats (scones, tea, coffee, fresh fruit, fresh flowers, etc).
Melissa and Bill are warm and hospitable; make sure you stop by their house just up the lane from the loft to say hi.
We especially appreciated the jacuzzi bathtub and the spacious deck, where we enjoyed our morning coffee.
Highly recommend this spot! Looking forward to staying here again.
Once again, John and I had a perfect stay at the loft. The place was as pristine as it had been in previous visits. The only change was an extra can of "deep woods" off, thoughtfully placed outside by Bill. (He must have remembered from my last visit that I attract mosquitos while standing outside, chatting.) Ah, and there was a book on the coffee table, new to me, since my other stays, on Austin writers, I believe. Another personal and thoughtful touch given my current work. Really, it's these personal touches that Melissa and Bill do best. They gave us a very thoughtful gift upon learning about our engagement (a new development since our previous visit.) As usual, they put together a good spread of breakfast foods and hiking snacks. John and I were able to take advantage of the hiking, which I highly recommend--especially now that Barton Creek is brimming. I'd also recommend to other guests that they make time to speak with Bill. Our schedules didn't overlap as much as we had hoped this time; but every encounter was thought-provoking and pleasant. (A superb host, Bill indulges our interests in philosophy, writing, and travel.) We cannot say enough good things about our stay here. It has such good memories for us; and we would not imagine staying in Austin with any other hosts.
Melissa and Bill were great. Bill was there to welcome us as we arrived and took the time to show us around. The loft is beautiful, clean and unique. Very close to town and surrounded by lovely landscapes. They left snacks and fruit for us in the fridge. The fresh flowers outside and in the kitchen were a great touch. I really enjoyed the stay and would do it again. Thanks again for hosting us!
Beautiful little loft in a quiet neighborhood. Hosts were lovely and very helpful! Perfect place to stay, would absolutely stay again. Thanks for everything!
I had stayed at this lovely loft last year with my fiance, John, but this year decided to bring my mom. We spent the weekend in Austin for UT Graduation, and a belated mother's day retreat. Though it rained the entire weekend (and thus thwarted our hiking plans), we found the loft a nice, cool, dry refuge. One would think, with the severe thunderstorms, that mosquitos and other critters would have made their way into the loft. But we didn't see any! (And should you sit out on the porch in lighter rain, Bill and Melissa have helpfully provided bug repellant spray.) I regret that, during this trip, my Mom and I weren't outside much to enjoy conversation with Bill. But he was there to warmly greet us upon arrival. When we arrived, Bill had been cleaning the deck between bouts of rain. Bill is consistently attentive to the cleanliness of the loft and its deck. Not only is the place very clean and organized, it boasts several thoughtful touches. There were goodies from Central Market in the fridge (croissants, cheese, fruit, energy bars, milk, creamer, coffee, tea) for our breakfasts and snacking. There were fresh flowers in the kitchen, and a fresh print of the Austin Chronicle on the desk. We were so grateful to call this place home for a couple days. It provided us the relaxation we needed amidst the storms and graduation festivities. Thank you Bill, and Melissa, for another pleasant stay.
We arrived in Austin much earlier than anticipated but one phone call to the Hornungs and we were graciously accepted. Melissa even warned us about the weather. Sure enough, when we arrived at the Loft it was raining, hard. Melissa begged off due to the weather, but everything was ready for us when we arrived. Unfortunately our busy schedule didn't allow for us to meet personally. I'm sure it would have been a pleasure.
About the Host, Melissa & Bill
We have both traveled widely throughout this world, and have generally found the places we have visited to be wonderous and beautiful. We hope that all others who travel will benefit from the wonder and beauty they will also encounter in their travels.
