Driftwood Hostel is located 5 km/3 miles from the lively West Cork town of Skibbereen and about 10km/6 miles from the closest point to the sea; which makes it an ideal base to tour West Cork and Kerry.
You can walk to Skibbereen in 45 minutes and guests are welcome to use 2 bikes that we keep on site.
We offer Bed & Breakfast accommodation and take pride in offering a good selection of food, sourced when possible locally.
We also offer selfcatering accommodation from 40 euro/room.
We have a kitchen for guest use should you choose the later option.
When in service you are welcome to use our hot tub for a small charge 5 euro/person for running costs.
We are located in a peaceful rural setting, our garden is for everyone to relax in and we welcome guests to enjoy their surroundings.
Guests with dogs are welcome, once their pets are supervised. We have a shed in the garden to accommodate pets for a good nights rest.
You are a 10 min. drive from stunning nature reserve Lough Ine (Europe’s largest saltwater lake) or 20/30 minutes from the coastal villages of Baltimore, Glandore, Schull & Bantry.
(see some pictures within 20 minutes from Driftwood house)
If you venture a little further you will find the villages of Goleen & Crookhaven, Mizen Head (Ireland’s most southerly point) and Barleycove Beach, all accessable in 40-45 minutes.
The more adventurous can venture into Kerry and visit beautiful Kenmare or a little further Killarney National Park.
We will also be glad to help you find local activities you might enjoy such as: Cycling & Walking , Kayaking; Dolphin Watching; Deep Sea Angling or River/Lake Fishing; Arts, Crafts & Music.
There is plenty to do and explore locally and during the Spring and Summer season West Cork offers lots of festivals around the small towns and villages.
We have lived in the West Cork area for the past 25 years and have explored the area extensively and will be happy to point you to the most beautiful spots.
After exploring for the day you can relax in our hot tub in the garden.
I had the most fantastic time with Heidi and Desi! There home is beautiful and very comfortable, with everything you could need, surrounded by the stunning rolling hills of Ireland, and they are so very, very kind. They have a full kitchen for guests to use, so I saved a whole bunch of money just making my own breakfast and lunch. There is also a bike for guests to use (the ride into town is lovely and I did it at least once daily, but if you aren't up for the challenge, a taxi is only 5-10 euro, and hitching a ride is never a problem). Then as if the house is not great enough, the town of Skibbereen is now probably my favorite town I have ever traveled to, which means quite a bit. Everyone was so incredibly hospitable and helpful and kind; I felt that I was at home within just one day. The town may be small, but for a girl from Chicago, I never got bored. Try out Annie May's or Baby Hannah's for a night of music on your first night, then once you know a few people try out the Paragon for some more dancing and music. Then during the days you can shop or go for hikes or a bike ride or explore the surrounding towns and castles. I will surely be back very soon!
Heidi&Des house is a nice and quiet place at the top of a hill with a scenic view on the country.
Theý re welcoming and kind.
The house is self catering , clean, well equipped and large: It should be perfect for a big family for a long stay.
We are happy about this stay.
Great place in a beautiful location. Clean and good value, with friendly hosts you can ask local advice from about where to go.
Was the perfect space to relax in the evening after experiencing beautiful West Cork in the daytime. Wish I was back there right now!
Des was so friendly and the accommodations were lovely. It was comfortable and quiet, a great way to start our honeymoon. Thank you, Des! We will definitely recommend Driftwood to our friends!
