  • I stayed here with my partner during out eventual move out to NYC. We wanted some place that was more suburban and not too overwhelming to start, but had reasonable transit access to the city. This place really fit the bill. The transit to the city itself can be far (you can map it online to check) but if you're not hitting the city constantly and plan it well in full day trip increments, you can make it work, especially if it's a move where you need a solid place to anchor yourself for a while as there's plenty of room for your stuff. Patch and his family were awesome. We rarely saw them and were friendly and helpful, checking on us occasionally via text mostly. The internet was solid 98% of the time and the speed was very good. There is plenty of space for two people to share, it feels private and comfy. There's a QuickCheq, liquor store, Chinese takeout and restaurant/bar nearby. About a 5-10 minute walk you'll find the usual Subway/McDonalds/Burger King and many other local restaurants and shops, grocery, etc. If you're up for a 30-40 minute walk, you can reach Target, Whole Foods, Best Buy going West. For about the same time you can go North to the West Orange area. It's a cute little town right on the train route with lots of beautiful buildings, a performing arts center and a nice movie theatre. We enjoyed walking that way to see the beautiful houses and woodsy environs. It's very close to the Reservation there where you can go for a fun walk / hike, see the woods, lakes and waterfalls. There's even a zoo and other outdoor amenities there though we never made it farther than the Southern part of the reservation as it was winter. Of course, having a car is even better, but then you'll be missing out on the long walks around the vicinity. Anyway, Patch's dad picked us up at the airport in Newark and dropped us off at our destination as well...really stellar and not expected at all. Had no problems with communication. He even asked us if there was anything that could be improved about the space/experience and that left a really good impression on us. If we find ourselves in the area again we'll definitely make it back. If you're okay with the transit distance to NYC and plan it well, I have no doubt that you'll enjoy your stay here. It feels like home!

  • Really enjoyed the stay, nice location, we would happily stay again

  • I had a really nice stay at Patch's. I was in the room for about a week after just moving to New Jersey. There was plenty of space to hold my things and it was nice and private, with it's own entrance and basic bathroom (no shower downstairs). There was also a microwave and a mini fridge, which was convenient. The room was surprisingly warm for a basement on winter nights, perhaps because there was some warmth coming off the water heater down there. The bed was fine, though not too comfortable. If you prefer a firmer-feeling mattress, you'll be fine (it is a fold out couch/sofa-bed)

I only saw Patch or his family a handful of times in my eight days there, but every time they were very friendly and welcoming. The location was also great - easy to get on the freeway, and a few convenience stores nearby as well as a Target just down the road.

  • Staying at Patch's house was great. He is amazing host, very friendly and kind.

The place was as described in the picture, very cozy and with plenty room for two people.

  • It was very nice of Patch and his mom to get us a second bed when they knew that it was my dad and me. The basement was more spacious than I had expected. Overall, it was a great deal, and we'll return when we are visiting NYC again.

  • The price for the room is fair and the rooms are nice. But I think it is not the right place to stay if you want to see New York City (without you own car).

  • Patch and his family were good hosts and were happy to answer any questions we had. The arrangement allows you to have some privacy as you even have a separate front door, making it truly feel like your own space. We thought it might be a bit awkward for getting into NYC but the public transport was pretty simple and frequent, even as it got later in the evening. The house is a short walk from a main road which has all the amenities you might need, as well as buses into downtown Newark or to Penn Station for connecting trains.

  • Staying in Patchs house was our first airbnb arrangement ever. We choose Patch because of his fair price and the near to Newark Airport, so we could come down a bit after arriving in the states. And to say it short: We would do it again this way. Yes, the appartment is the basement, but that means you have your own entrance to your own basement appartment with a sleeping room, a bathroom and a open living room, where you are on your own. Its not that high, you can hear people walking up on the ceiling a little bit and there is not so much daylight but this price the place is more then worth. There s a/c against wet air and heat, but we did not need it often.

The house is in a nice suburb area with some shops and parks close by so you can walk to. It's also not far to the bus station of New Jersey Transit Bus Line 70 that brings you to Newark Penn Station from were you get in minutes into the heart of NYC.

Last but not least Patch and his family and friends are very friendly and helpful guys, who helped us with our stuff, gave us information, were very nice to our baby we were travelling with and helped as clean the babys dishes with boiling water. And at the end Patch gave us a ride to the station with his car - its a 10 minutes ride and because of so much baggages and backpacks and childrens seat and childrens carriage it was a challenge. But Patch didnt wait as he see us but invited us to the car.

So we can recommend this air bnb host and his rooms as a fair place were you would be welcome.
